Use “jollification” at least once in text or speak by the end of the week. Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day. I’m looking forward to the jollification!

I don’t understand when we started using wlw and mlm instead of yaoi and yuri.

And misogyny instead of sexism. I guess I am too old for modern slang

The thing about youth slang is usually the nonsensical shit falls out of use and doesn’t have a lasting hold years down the line other than for jokes. But the more mundane words will just weave their way into the language.

Was watching an episode of Sliders from the 90s and to emphasize how young a lawyer was they had her respond with “totally” as a sort of emphasized jarring moments to point out that she’s a youngin.

Absolutely hilarious to hear in 2025 where I regularly listen to podcasts by lawyers where they break down supreme court cases and use the term “totally” considerably more than my brain even registers. A future where my boss has responded to me with a complete sentence “totally” more times than a human person can count.

Give it 20 more years and the bit about “hella” in Life is Strange Before the Storm is gonna hit the exact same as this.

My friend lives next door and is from England when we smoke together her London accent gets super strong and I can’t understand her half the time meanwhile when I get high instead of my accent getting stronger I regress to the vocab I picked up when I started smoking

So she’s speaking in an accent where half the time I can’t follow along and I’m using slang from a decade ago in a very niche location she’s never been

It’s so fun we’re so useless just stone out of our minds going HUH????? Back and forth to each other and trying to explain slang that simply makes no fucking sense to the other

So, my mother- who works a corporate job- has been saying French kiss instead of chef’s kiss. She has said this to multiple people. Including her boss. My dad had to break the news to her.

Ok so I know bop has been used as slang for a type of person, usually used for women, for a while now. In my mind, bop is a catchy song. Could anyone explain the etymology of when it became a synonym for thot, I love learning how new slang emerges and I was thinking about this one today. I’d love the lore if anyone has it.
