I study three languages at once and I don’t know how the fuck to manage all of them. yet I want to learn Arabic /Spanish/Russian. a conundrum i’d say
I truly guess it all comes down to your first language tho. I do suck at that one too.
Like all my conlangs, yes; just depends on what time I have and what else I’m up to. I like it. I’ll get back to it.
I’m so particular about punctuation.
“A sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.” Words engraved in my heart by my Grade 1 teacher.
By Grade 4, another teacher told us we could improve our writing by using more punctuation. That’s when I was introduced to the cool world of commas, semicolons, dashes. I’d proofread my work just to add them in - editing my sentences until they felt right.
To this day I get irrationally annoyed when someone texts everything in lowercase. It unsettles me when someone writes “i” instead of “I”.
Which is why it’s strange to live in a time where using punctuation properly can make people think you used AI. Apparently no sane person uses a semicolon anymore. Em dashes? Suspicious.
I’ll admit I have my punctuation vices. I overuse ellipses… especially in informal writing. It’s the only place they really belong anyway. Informally, I also prefer using a hyphen where I ought to use a dash.
But when you’re sensitive to rhythm and tone in language, punctuation stops being just “rules,” it becomes musical notation.
It’s sad that AI has taken that away from us.

Shout out to this online medical form that required me to sign-up for text-based notifications but didn’t constrain me to numbers in the contact entry, and acknowledged my potential to communicate in Old and Middle English.
Does anyone know any language learning apps that don’t use AI or require a subscription or to pay for anything?
I’ve been yearning to learn German again after I dropped Duolingo for their use of AI and everything I’ve found since has used AI or required a payment

Evil and Mysterious Third Option
People really need to stop equating normal with good. They can be the same, but they are always the same. A bad behavioural habit can be normal, that’s not someone saying it’s good, that’s someone saying that it is common.
