How do Ace?

It’s really confusing realizing you are Ace when you are in your thirties. Like how did I live my life this long not knowing? I thought for a few years that I was pansexual. It was just the easiest way to say that I don’t care what you’re working with or how you present.. I like who I like. But then I realized that it wasn’t for sexual reasons. I’m so confused bc I lived most of my life in pretty heteronormative relationships. I’ve had very hetero sex in my life.. so how would I have known the difference? I know I was almost 18 when I lost my virginity and I only did it because “it was just a thing that needed to happen sooner or later.” I remember catching so much crap from everyone I knew because they were all super sexual and I just didn’t care. I didn’t even have sex after that first time till a few years later. I don’t think I’ve ever really enjoyed any encounter I’ve had with anyone like that in my life. It was more like a chore or just a thing that people do. Then I got to this point where I just didn’t want people touching me at all. I’ve been there for a while now. Realizing that I may be Ace was pretty liberating. My partner accepts it although I wonder in the back of my head if he really is okay with it. He’s pretty demisexual, and he is trans which makes our dynamic a little different. I’m just really struggling with all of this and I don’t really have anyone to talk to about it. I have some friends who are Ace, but none of them have had past experiences like mine so I can’t really discuss it with them. I don’t want to make anyone feel awkward. That’s the other thing… I read very nsfw fanfic almost daily… I look at nsfw fan art all the time and it doesn’t bother me at all, but if someone is talking about their sexcapades it makes me feel VERY uncomfortable. Like fiction and fan art isn’t real.. but irl instances freak me out. No one wants to talk about asexuality. People treat it like it’s invalid. So no.. it’s not about meeting the right person.. can anyone help shed some light on my confusion? I really feel like I have no one to talk to that’s been in my shoes.
