Rick Scuteri-Imagn Images
Earlier this week, I wrote about the cost of a win in free agency. I loved seeing the discussion of that article online and in the comments section, so I thought I’d set aside some time to consider a few of the questions readers had. Here are my answers to those questions.
What if We Used More Tiers? If three tiers is good, would four be better? Five? Six? In my initial…

NBN 500 plan prices: how much should you be paying for the super-speedy new tier? I’ve done the maths

(Image credit: Future / Getty Images)

When the new NBN 500 plans started landing in September 2025, it was immediately clear that they were poised to become the best option for most Australian homes. The fact that they offer speeds of up to 500Mbps – which I reckon is more than enough for most users – and come in at roughly the same cost (in most instances) as the NBN 100 plans they’ve replaced…

After the advertising: #37 Magazine Tests: Skin Care Trends

Snapchat has long been an obvious app to send pictures and many use it to write with friends and to save their pictures in “Memories”. Paying

Prompt

TW: discussion of SA, murder

They’ll pay. They’ll pay. They’ll pay.

Same thought, echoing in her mind, again and again.

They’ll pay. They’ll pay. They’ll pay.

Day after day, hit after hit, as she was training. As she was acting nice and kind and thoughtful at day.

They’ll pay. They’ll pay. They’ll pay.

Every night as she was turning herself in a war machine.

Palis had always known. The unfairness, the impossible looks, the mocking smiles, the fear in the streets, dark night, somber twilight of blinding day, every day.

They’ll pay. They’ll pay. They’ll pay.

Biting back the sharp comebacks, the sarcastic answers, as she tightened her hands in a fist to contain the shivers. To forget the coldness.

Life may be a gift.

But life didn’t hand any.

Especially not to girls.

They’ll pay. They’ll pay. They’ll pay.

Palis hit the punching-bag another time. Every night till she couldn’t stand up.

Every night till her arms burnt.

Every night till the stars started disappearing.

Their faces deep in her mind, she was only thirteen back then, her mother thirty, same old story, women turned baby machines, humiliated, tortured, life forced as a labour.

They’ll pay. They’ll pay. They’ll pay.

She shouldn’t have apologized. Those who hurt her didn’t deserve an apology. They should have been on the ground, begging for forgiveness.

And that was what Palis intended for them to do.

She knew where they were. Their unchanged lives, their prosperity. Their wives, slaves and carers. Their sons, princes and kings, gods to these abominations. Their daughters, broken, poor, maybe sheltered but surely exposed to the looks of objection.

They’ll pay. They’ll pay. They’ll pay.

It was time now.

Palis knew it.

It was her hour.

Her night.

No moon in the sky, flickering stars, a city turned down to avoid wild fires.

She was the fire.

The ember burning in the ashes.

Palis stood up, took the dagger she knew to use, strapped it on her back, in its sheath. Put on her cape, dark as death, opened the window.

Minutes passed. She found them. Woke them. One. By. One. Fought them. And when they were blue, bruised, crying at her feet, she marked them of her dagger.

Killing wasn’t the goal.

Because she knew living with the memories was worse, she had always known.

Every single one of them.

All of them who had humiliated her mother back then, taking her laugh, her joy, her care. Who had touched her in every way. In front of Palis’s eyes, saying it was a lesson for the girl.

Well, Palis was twenty-three now. And she had learnt. Maybe not the lesson they wanted, but the lesson they shared.

The world was unfair.

The violent ones never said sorry.

It was the victims’ role to apologize.

So she turned them victims, down on their knees, begging for forgiveness, for forgetfulness. She couldn’t give either, but the shame, the way their voices cracked, saying her mother’s name, recognizing their crimes, that was what she wanted.

Each had a star scar on the left temple now.

They had made their victim apologize, crying sorry in tears.

She had turned tables.

And now she could live in peace, strong and fearless.

They had paid.

They paid.

Opinion | If You Fly Economy, You’re Paying for Someone Else to Fly Private

If you travel on a plane that looks like this, then you’re paying for people to travel like this. [CHORAL MUSIC] You heard that right. If you’re a member of the economy class, the seat reclined in your face class, the overhead compartment won’t close class, then you’re subsidizing this guy. “I’m actually going to Vegas on my jet, [BLEEP].” You’re subsidizing a class of people who would probably…
