I dunno maybe most people, especially my fellow Americans, don’t need a huge lawn or a big house or tons of space between their neighbors. It’s rather silly to think that. Why do 5-7 people need a plot of land that’s 10k-20k square feet? In the UK it’s almost a tenth of that size. It’s inherently more walkable to have denser housing, even without mixed zoning.
I also found a good study on housing density and mental health if anyone’s interested :3

Microscopic Droplets Reveal DNA’s Secret Architecture
“Six feet of human DNA crammed into a tiny nucleus relies on an elegant system of nucleosomes, fibers, and highly organized phase-separated condensates.
Scientists have now captured the most detailed images yet of how chromatin fibers and nucleosomes arrange themselves inside these droplet-like structures, revealing how molecular architecture determines condensate behavior.”
“Inside every human cell, biology manages an extraordinary challenge: packing roughly six feet of DNA into a nucleus that is only about one-tenth the width of a human hair, all while keeping the genetic material fully functional.
To achieve this level of compression, DNA coils around proteins to form nucleosomes. These nucleosomes connect like beads on a string, creating long strands that fold into chromatin fibers. The fibers then compact even further to fit inside the nucleus.
For years, scientists did not know exactly how this final stage of compaction occurred. That changed in 2019, when HHMI Investigator Michael Rosen and his colleagues at UT Southwestern Medical Center showed that lab-made nucleosomes can gather into membrane-less droplets called condensates. They discovered that this occurs through phase separation – a process similar to oil droplets forming in water – which may mirror how chromatin becomes densely packed within living cells.”

“Looking inside chromatin condensates”
“These chromatin condensates, made up of hundreds of thousands of rapidly moving molecules, have emergent properties—behaviors that aren’t present in the individual molecules but appear only when they work together as one. These properties dictate how the droplets form and maintain their physical characteristics.
To better understand these qualities, which could help researchers learn how chromatin compacts inside cells, scientists need to peer deep inside the droplets to examine individual chromatin fibers and nucleosomes.
Now, Rosen and his team, along with researchers led by HHMI Investigator Elizabeth Villa at the University of California, San Diego; Rosana Collepardo-Guevara at the University of Cambridge; and Zhiheng Yu at HHMI’s Janelia Research Campus; have figured out how to do just that.” (video)

what is the density of a dream
does it press on my shoulders
as i trudge through fogged thoughts
a grey mass, a blurred vision
of what it could be
the volume of daydreams divided
by moonless nightmares
i still search the parameters
oneiric illusions
the cutting edge of sleet or
the romantic cloud of written words
whispered into the dense silence
of predawn fog

Always think of your natural hair type. Extensions should complement, not compete.
Go for a density that matches your hair’s thickest point (usually near the roots).
Don’t forget your lifestyle. If you love low-maintenance styling, stick to lighter densities. If you’re all about bold transformations, lean into longer, denser options.
For those with shorter hair lengths, ask help…

In the dense southern neighborhoods of Jakarta, where land is a rare commodity, the ABC Flats project stands out as an intelligent architectural solution to contemporary housing challenges. Designed by ISSO Architects, the building—standing on a narrow plot of just 175 square meters—addresses population density by accommodating eleven housing units within a total area of 423 square meters. By employing a design language of exposed concrete and organic cylindrical forms, the project not only provides functional living spaces but also creates a visually rich environment that responds to its urban context.

The Façade: A Dialogue Between Concrete and Curves
The external design of ABC Flats is defined by the repeated use of cylindrical elements that break the solidity of the three-story building’s mass. These curves create a dynamic visual rhythm on the façade while softening the presence of the primary building material: raw concrete. This interaction between softness and solidity clearly distinguishes the building from its more traditional neighbors, transforming it into a visual landmark within its district.

The Entry Experience: A Play of Light and Reflection
The residents’ journey begins with a carefully orchestrated entrance. Upon entering, one passes under a triple-height staircase, where light pours in from a skylight above, casting moving patterns on the walls throughout the day. This sensory experience is enhanced by a reflective pool at the base of the space, which amplifies the light effect and introduces a quiet, contemplative moment that offers respite from the bustling city outside.

Internal Planning: Efficiency in Limited Spaces
The interior design is based on a clear tripartite zoning concept that ensures functional efficiency:
· The staircase serves as the vertical circulation backbone.
· Corridors connect the individual units.
· The rooms themselves are designed with three distinct typologies to cater to different residents.
To maximize efficiency, all mechanical and electrical systems are integrated within a central column. This reduces visual clutter and significantly simplifies maintenance. Furthermore, the curved interior walls, which echo the cylindrical forms of the façade, allow light and movement to flow more smoothly through the narrow spaces, alleviating any sense of constriction.

Materials and Finishes: Warmth Amidst Strength
The interior design skillfully balances the strength and boldness of exposed concrete with the warmth and texture of natural wood, complemented by a neutral, subdued color palette. This thoughtful combination not only creates a comfortable and stable atmosphere but also subtly encourages residents to spend time in the common areas, fostering the social interaction that is a cornerstone of the integrated housing concept.

Community Life on the Rooftop: Extending Shared Living
The concept of shared living extends to the top floor, which features a Rooftop Pantry and a Communal Terrace. These spaces are carefully designed to function as a natural extension of the private homes, not merely as service areas. They provide a quiet gathering point that encourages social interaction among residents, offering a unique vantage point over South Jakarta and thereby reinforcing the value of community life that the overall design seeks to establish.

Contextual Response: A Model for Dense Urban Housing
The ABC Flats project serves as a practical model for how architecture can respond to pressing urban challenges. It demonstrates that even on small, narrow plots, intelligent and thoughtful design can create sufficient living spaces with high environmental and architectural quality. The aesthetic use of raw materials, the integration of natural elements like light and water, and the creation of valuable common spaces make this project a reference point for designing integrated housing that respects its users and enriches the urban fabric.
The article highlights the ABC Flats project as a response to Jakarta’s urban density by concentrating eleven housing units on a narrow plot. From a design perspective, a contrast emerges between the fluid nature of the cylindrical façade and the rigid, linear internal layout based on three longitudinal zones, potentially creating a disconnect between the dynamism of the form and the functionality of the internal distribution. The reliance on a single central skylight and an entrance pool may limit the effectiveness of natural ventilation and lighting for interior units distant from the source, potentially increasing dependence on mechanical systems in a tropical climate. However, the strategy of consolidating service and electrical systems within a central column remains a practical solution that maintains the visual clarity of the living spaces and simplifies future maintenance within the dense building.
