The Doctrine of Sin

Few doctrines in Scripture are as foundational and as sobering as the doctrine of sin. One cannot understand the message of the gospel without first understanding humanity’s problem. The Bible presents sin not as a minor defect in human behaviour but as a profound spiritual condition that affects every person and separates humanity from a holy God. The doctrine of sin therefore explains both the…

A Living Sacrifice

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

Romans 12:1

In his letter to the Romans the apostle Paul urges his readers by the mercy of God to present themselves as a living and holy sacrifice to God as an act of worship. If we live a life to the glory of God, we live an…

Christ is this world’s true light

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

Matthew 5:14-15

The Bible says in 1 John 1:5, “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” The Bible calls the wrong we…

This world is getting more chaotic and dangerous by the day.

It seems that we receive horrible news about death, violence, thievery, and wrong doing on a daily basis. Everyday we are bombarded with how awful the times we live are, and how those we put in charge only look out for their interests, leaving their people to die and live in fear for their lives.

And we can’t help but wonder, where is God in all of this? Why does he allow all this horribleness, death, violence, and sin to happen?

The answer is simple, because he respects our choices.

God continually lays out the same choice to us that he did to Adam and Eve at the beginning of time: to trust in him and in his sovereignty, or to choose their own path.

With all the worlds teachings of self reliance, putting yourself first, and doing what’s best for you and you alone, you can tell what choice that the world makes.

Since the world had whole hearty set itself against God, the it will constantly choose sin over obedience to the Father. As such, sin runs rampant in this world, and the Father, out of respect and love for his creation, honors its choice.

God allows wars, famines, natural disasters, and personal tragedies because of the world’s constant refusal to accept him as its Lord and Savior.

But what about those who have chosen to make God their Lord? Why does he let bad things happen to them?

That’s an ever harder question, one that nobody on Earth can answer.

Only God knows why he lets bad things to happen to good people. We can say it’s all part of God’s plan, and while that may be true, it doesn’t really give hope to the couple whose lost their baby, or the victims of physical and mental abuse.

So why does God let all this happen to his chosen ones?

God answers us with a different question.

We all know the story of Job, the man completely righteous before God.

Job was a goodly man whose was right with God (Job 1:1) and also very rich, owning large amounts of land and cattle as well.

Then, in the span of one day, Job loses everything. All of his livestock dies, all of his children perish, his wife leaves him, and he is stricken with a leprous disease so severe, his friends can barely recognize him.

Job tries to remain faithful to God, but eventually he lashes out of the Lord, and demands to know why God had let this happen to him. Job did nothing wrong (God says so himself, Job 2:3), so why did God allow such affliction to befall him?

God answers Job with 77 unanswerable questions, “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?”, “Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their rule on the earth?”, etc.

God never answers Job’s question. Instead, he demonstrates his dominion and sovereignty over all creation by making Job understand his limited perspective of the world, and of the universe as a whole.

God doesn’t tell us why he lets bad things happen to good people. Instead, he tells us to trust in him, and to remember his sovereignty over all creation.

But he doesn’t leave us empty handed.

Jesus says that those who trust in him shall never die, and that he has overcome the world on our behalf (John 16:33).

Jesus never said that our lives will be smooth sailing once we’ve accepted him into our hearts. But he did say that we would forever be secure in the right of the Father.

God protects those who love him, even if we can’t see it. The world will try to harm us, insult us, and do everything in its power to bring us down to its level.

But Jesus tells us to take courage, for he has overcome the world and stripped it of its power to harm us.

They can beat and kill our flesh, but we will never see death thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection on the third day.

I can’t tell you why God allows horrible things to happen to good people, but I can encourage you to endure, and keep the faith.

This world, and all of its sinfulness, is perishing, along with its god (the enemy) in the fiery pit of brining sulfur. Jesus has already won the war, we fight and endure from a place of victory.

So trust in the Lord, and in his love. Keep the faith, and never let go of his hand, no matter how hard it may be.

Never give up on him, because will never give up on us.

If you need someone to talk to, or need more help on this, my asks and inbox are open.

God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️

Sin is dangerous because it’s deadly.

This is not just referring to eternal torment that a life of sinfulness leads to, but to a physical death as well.

Sin is from the father of death itself, the enemy.

His goal on this earth is to get hell to burst open, and he’s very smart in how he goes about it.

Sin leads to addiction, and addiction, of any kind, can lead to death. This can be anything; drugs, sugar, food, sex, money, etc. Whatever it is that you find that you’re addicted to, and it isn’t Jesus, will slowly kill you.

And that’s just talking physically.

Sin doesn’t just take up a chair and stay a while, and pierces you, and does everything it can to break you.

It’ll get you to believe that you aren’t good enough to be saved. It’ll get you think that you don’t deserve Jesus, and will drive you away from reading the word.

Sin will drive you away from God.

And before you know it, you’ll be so far from God that he will feel out of reach, and you’ll end up in places that you never intended to be (think back to the Prodigal Son).

Let this be a wake up call to you: you cannot live with sin.

Struggling to kick a sin out of your life is one thing, but choosing to live with it is another matter all together.

You cannot fight the enemy of your soul by inviting him in for a drink. We are at war people, and we must take up our swords of Spirit and faith back.

Fight for your relationship with Christ. Fight your the salvation that Jesus died to secure for you. Fight for the light that we are called to shine in this world. Fight for the Lord, because he fights for you day and night.

This life is the chance to choose between this world, and if the next. It’s the time to choose between the enemy, and God.

I urge you to pick up your sword, and fight the good fight. Our king is coming back sooner than we think, and he will not be pleased to see his servants playing and fornicating with the enemy of his kingdom.

Get right with God while you still can.

God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️

God does not overlook our sin, but he forgives it.

It important to remember that God does not overlook our sin, since it prevents us from taking his grace for granted. It also prevents us from thinking that God will always wipe away the consequences of our sin.

Most times, he will not.

A good father forgives their children when they make a mistake, but they also let them deal with the consequences of their actions. It’s best to learn now than when it has eternal consequences.

God not always clearing up our mess is meant to teach us how destructive sin really is, and how it not only drives us away from the love of God, but also from each other.

Take David’s family, for instance. His affair with Bathsheba lead to her husband’s death, as well as the death of their child. Not only that, but it also lead to sexual assault of David’s daughter, Tamar, and Absalom, his son, hunting him down to kill him.

This story not only strikes home for David, it also warns us of the dangers of sin. It tells us that while God forgives our sin, if we confess them with a humble heart, he will allow us to deal with its consequences.

Going through these types of experiences will not only make sin less appealing to us, but make obeying God that much more desirable.

Sin is like honeycomb in the mouth, but like rocks in the stomach. Obeying God will only leave you wanting more. Sin leads to regret and humiliation, obedience leads to joy and the washing away of our shame.

These types of scenarios are the equivalent of a father forgiving their son or daughter of their sins, but still having them go to time out and to think about what they have done.

It’s painful in the moment, but will lead to an aversion from sin in the future.

Remember, the Lord disciplines and corrects those he loves, and it’s through the pruning that we produce more fruit.

It’s through facing the consequences of our actions that we can learn that our place is to glorify God, and not ourselves. It’s here, in the midst the ashes that we have made of our lives, that we can begin to trust in God to eventually pick up the pieces, and put us back together.

God bless, Jesus loves you ✝️❤️

“We read in Luke 5, 8 that Simon Peter, when face to face with a great miracle wrought by Jesus, fell on his knees before Him and said to Him, ‘Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.’ What distinguishes God’s true revelation from all false and alleged revelation is that it is like a sudden flash of light in a dark room, and reveals that man, though created by God for His own glory and thus himself too possessed of glory, is in himself not light but darkness. Revelation is an act of God’s compassion. So it reveals the plight of man as one who needs compassion. Revelation is an act of God’s condescension. So it reveals the depth to which man has sunk.”

You Might Be A Pharisee If ….

Just when we become proud of our own spiritual advancement we are most in danger of spiritual catastrophe!

[29] “Woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous. The final verse of the Lord’s prayer in Luke 11:1-4 includes:

A) Forgive us our sins…

B) … lead us not into temptation.

If we were rendered sinless upon salvation, we wouldn’t need to worry about temptation.

The Lord shares with us and shows us that our sinfulness has not disappeared. He offers us a way to submit to God and not sin. He demonstrated a model prayer to help us deal with our sins and our need for forgiveness.

No matter how low down you are; no matter what your disposition has been; you may be low in your thoughts, words, and actions; you may be selfish; your heart may be overflowing with corruption and wickedness; yet Jesus will have compassion upon you. He will speak comforting words to you; not treat you coldly or spurn you, as perhaps those of earth would, but will speak tender words, and words of love and affection and kindness. Just come at once. He is a faithful friend - a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
