This week on Old Testament study: Isaiah 48-66
These chapters are awesome! There are so many things someone could say about Isaiah. I think that while it can be complicated to read with lots of references to ancient Israel that might not make much sense, I’ve found that applying it to myself helps a lot.
I really loved this part in Isaiah 48: “Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.” (Isaiah 48:10)
One of my hobbies since starting college has been blacksmithing. Before the metal can be shaped, it has to go through the forge, and stay there until it can even start to be changed. Because if you try to hit it with a hammer when it’s cold, the metal could snap, and the potential for it would decrease.
I think that when we trust that our trials are for a reason, the outside forces won’t break us. We can choose to change and become better, and God will be there to help us become something beautiful.
