Planning in Progress - Accommodation

Planning in Progress – Accommodation

Both sides of the Atlantic are seeing prices on many essential day to day items go through the roof. Recession is a word that is prominent in the media as well as the question about fuel prices not dropping as fast as they rise. The pound/dollar exchange rate definitely favours a visit from America to the UK or elsewhere in Europe.
It was with great surprise then when searching for the best…

Weight of Her World

Today I saw a woman who weighed less than her backpack. Her steps were punctuated as she carried the weight of her worries which seemed to be illustrated as two deeply-dark, semi-circles that looked less like commas and more like exclamation points.

“I don’t know man, I just like to know my leader can survive a fist fight. A TRUE fist fight.

Obama: had lanky arms and looked like he stayed in shape.
Putin: looks like he could rip a man’s head clean off
Hillary: Clinton? at least you know she could take a knuckle-sandwich or two—shit.

Then he said: You know what I think, I think they should just put that bastard and King Jum ill* in a ring.

Betcha’ it will be a bunch of slappin’, hair-pulling and heavy breathing.

*pretty sure he meant Kim Jong Un

Train tanty & commuter coding

Train tanty & commuter coding

First, the tanty: I’m earning a little coin doing some part-time work far away. Not quite in a galaxy, but damn near close to being one. To get there, I could drive. I have. It works. If I leave at 6am, I get there at 6:30 and workout, shower, and relax before I start working. The traffic is minimal and while it’s three times the distance from my house to Austin’s CBD, it takes less time to…

Jesus the Chameleon

“Ok, here’s what I don’t understand: If we could give Jesus Christ any superpowers, why wouldn’t it be the ability to change races or ethnicity at will? He should be a chameleon for humanity— that should be his “thing”. Do you know how many arguments that would end? Don’t you think that would more unifying than the walking on water myth — or the water into wine one? The problem is we make shit up and don’t think it through … and then we act like we can’t change the story because why: programmed”

“Having cerebral palsy is difficult, but I’m thankful for my life. The hardest part is loneliness. I can’t help the fact that I have CP. But people usually don’t feel too threatened by me, so it’s easy for me to just go up and say ‘Hi!’ and ask how they are doing.”

Jordan and Amir started dating kind of by accident. Jordan ended up going to see a Chicago Bulls basketball game with Amir even though she didn’t know him very well. By the end of the game, they were talking about kids, and a few years later they decided to elope. The one wedding photo request besides the courthouse was “a picture of us at a Cap Metro stop.” She chose the Chinatown stop near their home.

Jack is a bicycle mechanic downtown and also a team rider for one of the local Austin bike teams. He spends a vast majority of his time building bikes and out on the road riding. “Riding around on my granddad’s bike was my first attempt at commuting around town by bike rather than by car, and it really helped me see my city through a different lens. Trust me, it’s that much harder to resist the alluring smells of curry fries and falafel when you’re on a bike in the open air rather than stuck in a car.”  When Jack is recovering from a long ride or avoiding bad weather, you’ll regularly find him getting around by way of the transit system.

As a land use consultant, Leah works on different projects to make the city a better functioning unit. She has a passion for providing and using eco friendlier forms of transportation, and has found that riding the bus is one of the easiest ways to help benefit the city. “My favorite projects are the ones that focus on people getting around without having to always drive in their own car. Every person traveling in their own car all the time is pretty hard for a city to accommodate, so I really like working to create more and better choices for folks to get around in other ways.”
