I painted this in honor of Tahlequah (J35) and her baby (J50), that passed away in 2018. Her baby only lived for 30 minutes and she carried her body for about 17 days in mourning of her loss. I see this painting as her dream of a future with her child that she will never have. This pod, (the Southern Resident Killer Whales), only eat fish. Predominantly Chinook Salmon. The salmon are becoming extinct and the Killer whales are dying due to starvation. They may soon be an extinct pod or killer whale species. We can do our part to try and save the salmon, and the Orcas, by requesting for the 4 lower dams of the snake river to be breached. So the Salmon can spawn upriver and multiply rapidly within just one year of being breached. Who do we call? Anyone can call the awesome Gov. Jay Inslee @ 360-902-4111. In my recent call, I also thanked him for all he is doing to try and protect Washingtonians from the Covid-19 virus.

The Ultimate finger food! A Trinidadian vegetarian dish coming at yuh.
This is called “Pumkin and fry roti”. This particular Pumpkin/ squash is freshly cut sautéed and cooked down in the pot to a mash. Then, eaten with a homemade bread called roti, like naan or pita bread. Rip open the bread, split it apart, scoop up the pumpkin and eat. The natural sweet of the squash with sautéed onions, garlic, celery, and cilantro was one of my favorite dishes as a kid.
This time, I seasoned with Himalayan salt, garlic powder, cumin powder, and local rosemary. Then I fried the homemade roti (bread) and dove in. 😉 Just a little bit of my trini roots sproutin out this week. My Aunt Kay-Kay and Granny love, taught me quite a few Trinidadian dishes growing up.
