“You’re brother says… "You can’t go through life doubting everyone, we have to learn to trust eachother”.“ Lucy replied.

Charlie brown approaches the two girls with a eager smile, he tosses a football around.

"I can’t stand it.” Lucy grumbles as she sulks.

Bison vs. Dogs.

swap AU ver

Original ver

Back at the gym locker room, Woodstock was explaining something again to snoopy and his siblings as pointed at the chalkboard, Woodstock then puts a poster of a bison on the board.

“They say it can’t be done but those bouncing beagles are preparing to battle the beastly bison for the world championship of the animal football league!”

The beagles warm up and cheer.

“Well, if anyone can inspire those beagles to afl victory, it is this coach, the pop Warner of the wildlife world and off they go!”

Woodstock and the beagles walk out.

“It’s a beautiful day and-”

Loud thumping noises can be heard.

“Uh oh! Are we rained out? No! It’s the thunder of mighty cloven holes! Look at those Beaty players I don’t see how those brittle beagles can stand a chance!”

The bison all walk out of the gym doors.

“The ref had the coin, and there’s the toss!”

It lands on heads.

“It’s heads! So the bison will kick off and the beagles will receive!”

The bison kicks the ball, rover catches the ball.

“Blamo! Maybe pigs can’t fly but pigskin sure can! Rover catches the ball and tosses it to Olaf! And look at that! The bison are completely buffaloed!”

The bison go after the beagles.

“Olaf hands off to belle, Uh oh, here comes a battalion of bovines! but belle is too fast for him, and touchdown belle! She does her patented "ballerina beagle”! And it’s 7-0 beagles over the bison! This could be the upset of the century, hold on there seems to be someone on the field.“

Charlie brown walks over to woodstock.

"They’re too big for you, coach, And your game plan is all wrong. How long can you count on dumb luck? I’ll give you some professional advice. Why don’t you just have your team run off the field and go home?” Charlie brown said.

“Okay, the bison and the beagles are in position!”

Marbles whispers to belle.

“Belle snaps the ball to marbles, marbles tosses to snoopy, and look at that fancy footwork! Sometimes it pays to be puppy-toed! I’ll bet those bison must have quite a beef with those beagles, snoopy laterals to molly, just as a bevy of bison converges! And the crowd goes bananas!”

The beagles tackle the bison.

“Molly laterals to spike, to laterals to molly, and folks there is certainly a lot of lateraling going on in this stadium today!”

The beagles run to the goal.

“Molly is at the 30, the 20, the 10, and touchdown molly! She goes into her popular "prancing puppy”! And the score jumps to 14 for the beagles and a big goose egg for the bison!“

"That was pretty lucky, coach. But you have to teach these dogs some modern plays. They need up-to-date coaching.” Charlie brown glances at the beagles. “And a little weight training won’t hurt either.”

Woodstock pokes Charlie Brown’s tummy.

“Okay, the bison kick off and… Andy catches the ball! He laterals to belle, who hands off to rover! Those barbarous bison are hot on rover’s tail, but it’s no use, he’s headed straight for the end zone… and touchdown rover! The score now stands at 48 to nothing beagles over the bison! But folks, this game is not over yet!”

Snoopy catches the ball.

“Snoopy catches the ball, he passes to spike who passes to marbles, where’s the beef? They’re running after marbles! But he’s just too fast for them! There is just no stopping that bounding beagle! Folks, we are witnessing history being made today!”

The beagles run to the goal.

“Touchdown marbles! And he does his popular "beagle bunny hop”! The bison are on the receiving end, and…“

The beagles tackle the bison.

"Wham! He fumbles as he’s crouched by a ton of dominant doggies! Molly’s got the ball, she hands off to olaf, who fakes to Andy, and it is almost time for those bison to shuffle off to Buffalo! And there he goes on a paw and a prayer!”

The children cheer.

“Andy is heading for that end zone… and touchdown Andy! He does his famous "beagle box step”! Those bison are really taking us here today!“

Woodstock cheers.

"Back at the line of scrimmage… spike hikes to olaf! Whoa Nelly, look at him go! These beagles are unbeatable! Olaf fakes to Andy, laterals to snoopy, who laterals to molly, molly heads for that end zone, oblivious to the thundering herd behind her! Touchdown molly! This has been one for the history books final tally, 62 to nothing, beagles over the bison!”

“That was a pretty close sweep, coach. next time, change your strategy.” Charlie brown says.“The beagles are the world champs, and here comes that victory vat of Gatorade! Gatorade, it handles tough thirst and unwanted advice!”

The beagles dump the Gatorade on Charlie Brown.

Later, Charlie Brown was walking until he came across a sign that read “puppet show, now playing” with a arrow at the bottom.

Charlie brown kept walking until he saw another sign that also read “special valentines day drama”, he smiles and sees another sign that read “action, romance, adventure”.

Charlie brown noticed a ticket booth that Woodstock was working in, the bird was currently asleep.

Charlie brown walks up and searched his pockets for a nickel. “One ticket, please.” Woodstock yawns, which causes Charlie Brown to hit the glass in irritation, waking Woodstock up, Woodstock greets him. “One ticket, please.”

Woodstock presses a ticket button which causes a bunch of tickets to come out. Tangling him, Charlie Brown grabs his ticket and storms away.

Charlie brown then sees a food bottle, which had drinks, candy, and popcorn, Woodstock rooms over and puts on a hat.

“Popcorn, please.” Charlie brown asks. Instead, Woodstock gets some candy and juggles them and handed Charlie brown a lollipop.

“No, I said popcorn, please.” Charlie brown said again. Woodstock turns on a soda machine and hands the cup full of soda to Charlie brown.

“Would you please just give me some popcorn?!” Charlie Brown yelled.

Woodstock turns on a button that read “popcorn starter” but it didn’t work, Woodstock hits the button but he then gets caught up in the machine, after that, he hands the popcorn to Charlie brown, Charlie Brown storms off.

Charlie brown walks until saw a sign that read “please wait here” and what was next to the sign had a trash can that read “litter.” Woodstock zooms over and puts on another hat, he bows before the child and bird began walking together.

Charlie brown threw the popcorn away until they stopped by the birdhouse that had a purple curtain, ontop was a pink sign that said “puppet theater”.

Woodstock turned on a record player that played a dramatic tune as lucy walked over.

“Today’s drama is a love story.” Lucy said, walking over to Charlie brown, she snapped her fingers, opening the curtain, Woodstock pulls put two blue and pink puppets.

“Theirs was a true love. The adventure began when they set off for the castle in their horse-drawn carriage.” Lucy continued, Woodstock then pulled out a yellow carriage with his foot.

“Wrapped in great coats, and warm furs, the lovers held hands.” Lucy continued, she turned to Charlie brown. “Have you ever been to one of these shows before?”

“No, I can’t say that I have.” Charlie brown responded.

“Then perhaps I should warn you about this first scene.” Lucy said.

“What first scene?” Charlie brown asked, coincidentally, water then gets poured on him.

“When the carriage crosses the swollen river.” Lucy replied, as she then continued. “Through the forest raced the lovers in their carriage.” Lucy then turns to Charlie brown and she asked. “How do you like the show so far?”

“It’s pretty good, I guess.” Charlie brown replies.

“Across the bridge and up the muddy road.” Lucy said.

“Muddy road?” Charlie brown piped up, coincidentally, dirt and mud gets poured on him, making him cough.

“Down the road and through the canyon. Suddenly the earth rumbled. It was an avalanche!” Lucy continued once more.

“Avalanche?” Charlie brown asked, suddenly, trash and garbage gets thrown on him, a rumbling noise is heard.

“Are you sure you want to see the rest of the show?” Lucy said.

“What can happen that is worse?” Charlie brown asked worriedly.

“Suddenly the lovers in their carriage are attacked by bandits.” As lucy said that, Woodstock pulled out two bandit puppets and began assaulting Charlie Brown with them.

“As the lovers fled inside the castle, thunder rolled overhead…” Lucy said, a thunder crash is heard. “…and it began to rain.”

“Oh no!” Charlie Brown yelled, he then gets rained on by a watering can, which makes him run away.

“The lovers embraced. True love has conquered.” Lucy said, she turns to the now running Charlie brown. “Hey, there’s another performance this evening.”

Charlie brown stops to catch his breath.

“Remind me not to come!” Charlie Brown continues to run away.

Complete Guide to Monkey Head Walnuts: Types, Play Process, and Buying Tips

Introduction

Monkey Head Walnuts are a fascinating collectible walnut, prized for their unique fur-like texture, rich oil content, and gradual color transformation. Popular in China and cherished by collectors worldwide, these walnuts offer both aesthetic beauty and cultural value. Learning how to choose, play, and age them is key to enjoying their full charm.

What Are Monkey Head Walnuts?

Monkey Head Walnuts are a unique type of walnut, originally native to North America but now widely cultivated in China, particularly in regions like Henan (Zhengzhou and Luoyang). These walnuts are prized not just for their rich oil content and sturdy shell, but also for their distinctive texture that resembles the fur of a monkey—hence the name “Monkey Head.”

They are often described as a type of decorative nut that combines both aesthetic appeal and a rich history in traditional Chinese culture. The walnuts’ natural oil content and their ability to change color over time make them an excellent material for collectors who enjoy the process of play (盘玩), a Chinese tradition of slowly manipulating and handling the walnut over the years to reveal a beautiful, aged patina.

What sets Monkey Head Walnuts apart is their “fur-like” surface texture, which develops gradually as the walnut ages, becoming smoother and shinier. This slow transformation makes the Monkey Head Walnut an attractive collectible item, especially for enthusiasts who enjoy the journey of “playing” with them over time.

The Four Main Types of Natural Monkey Head Walnuts

Within the world of Monkey Head Walnuts, there are four main types, each with its own distinct characteristics. These four types are the foundation of the walnut market and are highly coveted for their unique features. Let’s take a look at each:

1. Pumpkin Walnut (南瓜核)

  • Size: 14mm-16mm
  • Texture: A smooth, symmetrical design with moderate depth. The ridged sides resemble the shape of a pumpkin.
  • Play Characteristics: The walnut has a thicker skin and takes longer to develop its color, but it produces a beautiful, vibrant red hue over time. It’s ideal for collectors who enjoy a slow but steady transformation.
  • Ideal For: Those who like a classic design and are patient enough to wait for it to color beautifully.

2. Phoenix Feather Walnut (凤羽核)

  • Size: 15mm-17mm
  • Texture: Fine, intricate branches that resemble the feathers of a phoenix, with a more shallow, delicate surface.
  • Play Characteristics: Known for its fast oil absorption, this walnut turns a rich red color very quickly, within just 4–6 months of handling. It’s especially popular among beginners because of its rapid transformation and smoother surface.
  • Ideal For: New collectors or those looking for a walnut that colors up quickly.

3. Treasure Basin Walnut (聚宝盆核)

  • Size: 16mm-19mm
  • Texture: The name “Treasure Basin” comes from the distinct basin-like indentation on one side of the walnut, which contributes to its rounder, more symmetrical shape.
  • Play Characteristics: This walnut is newer in popularity and is known for its smooth surface and quick coloring process. It reaches a deep oxblood red hue in a short time.
  • Ideal For: Those with a larger budget who appreciate a rounder, more uniform walnut with a rapid color change.

4. Rich Man Walnut (土豪核)

  • Size: 15mm-17mm
  • Texture: The deepest texture among the four types, with a thick, dense shell and more pronounced ridges.
  • Play Characteristics: The Rich Man Walnut takes the longest to color but offers the most intricate texture once it has aged. The final result is a rich, multi-layered red color, making it highly desirable for those who appreciate complex textures and have the patience for a slow aging process.
  • Ideal For: Experienced collectors or those who enjoy intricate details and are patient enough for a slow transformation.

Quick Summary of the Four Types & Best Choices for You

  • Pumpkin Walnut: Classic, symmetrical. Best for wearing due to its balanced shape. Slow color change, but very beautiful.
  • Phoenix Feather Walnut: Quick to color, ideal for beginners or those wanting fast results. Vibrant red color emerges quickly.
  • Treasure Basin Walnut: New, smooth, and rounded. Best for those with larger budgets seeking quick, uniform coloring.
  • Rich Man Walnut: Deep texture, slow to color. Best for those who appreciate intricate textures and are patient in the process.

Monkey Head Walnut Playing Process: 4 Stages

When you start collecting Monkey Head Walnuts, they go through four main stages of play (盘玩). These stages involve handling the walnuts over time, which helps them change color and develop a unique patina. Here’s what to expect:

1. Base Coating Stage

  • Duration: 3–7 days
  • Process: During this phase, you will use gloves to handle the walnuts to avoid transferring moisture from your hands. This prevents the walnuts from becoming dull or sticky. The goal is to form a “glass bottom” appearance, which is a slight change in color with a smooth, glossy surface.
  • Result: The walnuts will begin to show subtle color changes, but no major transformation yet.

2. Oil Absorption Stage

  • Duration: 7 days – 3 months
  • Process: At this stage, you begin rubbing the walnuts with your hands, letting the oil from your skin get absorbed by the surface. This stage is crucial for the walnut to begin developing its signature red hue.
  • Result: The walnuts will gradually take on a more translucent, red tone as the oils accumulate. The more often you handle them, the faster they will color.

3. Awkward Stage

  • Duration: 3 months – 6 months
  • Process: This stage varies for each person, depending on how oily their skin is. Some may go through a short “awkward period,” where the walnuts may not seem to be changing or may appear slightly dull. It’s essential not to expose the walnuts to excess moisture or sweat during this phase.
  • Result: You may see slight uneven coloring or some streaking, but don’t be discouraged! The walnut is still processing the oils.

4. Jadelike Patina Stage

  • Duration: 6 months – 3 years
  • Process: With consistent handling, the walnuts will begin to develop a beautiful, even jade-like patina. The longer you play with them, the deeper the color will become, and they will gradually turn to a rich oxblood red or even darker hues. This stage requires patience and regular handling to maintain the texture and color.
  • Result: A shiny, deep red hue develops, and the walnut looks like it’s covered in a natural, glossy finish. This is the culmination of months of play!

Tips for Buying Monkey Head Walnuts:

  • Check the texture: Smooth and glossy surfaces indicate higher quality. Dull, rough surfaces might signal poor quality or chemical treatment.
  • Uniformity matters: High-quality walnuts will have minimal size variation (under 0.1mm difference per bead).
  • Avoid chemically treated ones: Some sellers treat walnuts with chemicals (e.g., oxalic acid) to enhance the color. These will not develop the same natural patina over time.
  • Smaller sizes are rarer and more expensive: Smaller walnuts are harder to produce, making them more valuable.

By following these guidelines, you can confidently choose the right type of Monkey Head Walnut for your collection and know exactly what to expect as you begin the playing process!

Conclusion

Monkey Head Walnuts are more than decorative nuts—they are a journey of patience and discovery. From initial handling to the final jade-like patina, each stage enhances their beauty. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced collector, these walnuts offer a unique tactile experience and a meaningful connection to Chinese cultural heritage.

A Beginner’s Guide to Wenwan Olive Pits: Origin, Varieties, and How to Select and Play

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Introduction

Chinese Wenwan (literally “scholarly playthings”) is a traditional practice that combines tactile enjoyment, patience, and aesthetic appreciation. Among many Wenwan materials, olive pits (olive stones) are especially respected for their density, fine grain, durability, and the exquisite carvings they allow.

This guide offers a comprehensive and practical introduction to olive pit Wenwan, from raw material origins and classifications to authenticity identification, buying tips, and daily care.

I. Where Do Olive Pit Wenwan Come From?

Olive pit Wenwan is made from oil olives (black olives), a species of evergreen tree in the olive family. These trees can grow up to 20 meters tall, with trunk diameters reaching 45 cm.

The primary production areas are Guangdong and Guangxi provinces in southern China. For Wenwan use, olive trees usually need to be 15–30 years old or older, as older trees produce larger, denser, and more stable pits.

Harvest Season Matters

Olive fruits begin ripening in late June, but early-season pits are considered inferior. The true harvesting season runs from from late July until early October, when the pits are fully mature, hard, and rich in natural oils.

Freshly harvested olive pits cannot be carved immediately. New pits contain residual moisture and are highly prone to cracking. Therefore, they are typically sealed and stored for 2–3 years, during which:

  • Internal moisture evaporates
  • Pest issues are resolved
  • Humidity balance stabilizes
  • Structural density becomes consistent

Only after this aging process are the pits suitable for skilled carving.

II. Detailed Classifications of Olive Pits

1. Classification by Producing Region (Seven Main Types)

(1) Iron Round Pit (Iron Head Pit)

Extremely hard and dense, often round or oval in shape. When two pits strike each other, they produce a crisp sound. The pit head has a small triangular opening, slightly raised ridges, and thick walls.

Advantages: Colors quickly and develops a warm, glossy red patina within 2–3 months of play.
Common Use: Human heads and portrait carvings.

(2) Yellow Plump Pit

Originating mainly from Puning, eastern Guangdong. Yellowish in color, wide and full-bodied, but not chalky.

Characteristics: Colors slowly but evenly, resulting in elegant tones. Short and stout shape, favored by some carvers.

(3) Meilin Pit

Exclusive to Meilin County. Not all long pits qualify—only those that are full-shaped, reddish, very hard, oil-rich, and resistant to cracking.

Typical Size: Width 21 mm+, length 40 mm+.
Common Use: Single carvings or long bead strands.

(4) Black Vajra Pit

Dark purple-black skin with reddish interior. Extremely responsive to handling.

Common Use: Arhats, Maitreya, Wealth Gods.

(5) Cream (Oil) Pit

Similar to Yellow Plump pits but slightly smaller.

Advantages: Good oil content, easy patina, beginner-friendly.

(6) Ox Head Olive Pit

A regional name used in western Guangxi and eastern Guangdong.

Size: Width 22–28 mm, length around 38 mm.
Notes: Thick walls, high density, expensive raw material, ideal for single-piece carvings.

(7) Crystal Pit

Very fine grain. After long-term play, develops a glass-like glaze and bright red translucence—hence the name.

2. Classification by Size and Shape

Standard Large Pit (Single Pit): Width over 22 mm, length over 40 mm. High value. Used for themes like Zhong Kui’s Sister’s Wedding, The Walnut Boat.

Slender Long Pit: Length over 48 mm, width about 19 mm. Ideal for Guanyin, Black & White Impermanence, Arhats.

Small Pit (“Peanut Olive Pit”): Width 10–14 mm, length 16–22 mm. Rare and expensive. Used for polished beads or miniature Arhat heads.

Medium Pit: Width 17–19 mm, length 23–30 mm. Most common. Used for Arhat heads, Nine Dragons, landscape themes.

Round Pit: Nearly spherical. Under 20 mm is common; over 22 mm is rare and valuable. Thick ones can be polished into round beads.

Mutated (Rare) Pit: Naturally deformed due to genetic mutation. Unique and irreplaceable, often valuable even before carving.

3. Classification by Ridge Patterns (“Flowers”)

Three-Flower Pit: Six ridges; most common

Four-Flower Pit: Eight ridges; relatively rare

Two-Flower Pit: Very rare, flatter shape, suitable for front–back carvings

Multi-Flower Pit: Often called “mutant pits,” such as Buddha-hand shapes

4. Classification by Storage Age

New Pits: Stored less than 3 years. Yellowish, unstable, prone to cracking. Not suitable for carving.

Old Pits: Stored over 5 years. The longer, the better. Naturally redden over time and resist cracking due to climate adaptation.

III. Authenticity & Common Market Pitfalls

Are Fake Olive Pits Common?

Olive pits themselves are almost never fake, because they are natural seeds with abundant supply. The real risks are:

  • Dyed carvings
  • Machine-carved pieces sold as handmade

How to Identify Dyed Olive Pit Carvings

Color Distribution Naturally handled pieces show lighter highlights and deeper recessed tones. Dyed pieces look uniformly dark and lifeless.

Surface Micro-Scratches Human fingerprints act like ultra-fine sandpaper. Genuine hand-played pieces show fine scratches. Machine-polished dyed pieces appear unnaturally smooth.

Translucency Natural patina creates a warm, agate-like glow. Dyed pieces lack depth and appear “dead.”

IV. Hand-Carved vs. Machine-Carved Olive Pit Carvings

AspectHand-CarvedMachine-CarvedLines & DepthSmooth, natural lines with varied depth, vivid expressions, irregular tool marks.Stiff, uniform lines, mechanical patterns, overly smooth surfaces.Design & ThemesWide range, including traditional and original designs. Complex, unique themes.Limited, repetitive designs, standard themes.Material & CraftAged pits (5+ years), fine texture, high oil content. Suitable for deep relief carvings.Low-quality pits, uneven color, shallow carvings.Price & MarketTime-intensive work (days to months), high-value pieces.Mass-produced, cheaper.

V. Buying Guide: How to Choose Olive Pit Wenwan

Key Points to Consider:

Color Consistency: The color should be even across the entire piece. Avoid pits with mixed-color variations, as they may affect long-term patina development.

Avoid Over-Carving: Over-carving results in thin spots, especially in recessed areas like Arhat’s eyes or beard. Such carvings are structurally weak and prone to cracking.

Avoid Black or White Veins: These veins can affect long-term play and patina. Beginners should avoid pits with visible veins.

No Visible Cracks: Cracked pits will worsen over time, so always check for cracks before buying.

VI. Playing & Care Guide for Olive Pit Wenwan

Plain Olive Pit Bracelets (No Carving)

Plain bracelets require minimal preparation. Simply play them by hand. Avoid direct air-conditioning airflow and drastic temperature changes. Play regularly, and once a thin patina forms, allow the bracelet to rest for about one week to stabilize the surface before continuing. Olive pits are prone to cracking, so basic protection from water and prolonged sun exposure is essential.

Carved Olive Pit Pieces

Patience Is Essential

  • When you first receive a new piece, do not rush to play with it.
  • If there is a large temperature difference between indoors and outdoors, keep the piece sealed for 2–3 hours to acclimate.
  • This acclimation step alone can reduce the risk of cracking by about 50%.

Initial Cleaning & Oiling

  • After acclimation, remove the piece and gently brush off surface dust using a dry brush.
  • Place one small drop of oil (Johnson’s Baby Oil is commonly recommended) onto your palm.
  • Rub the oil evenly between your hands, then gently massage it onto the carving.
  • Use a dry brush to remove excess oil, especially from recessed areas.
  • Seal the piece again to allow even absorption of the oil.

Daily Playing Precautions

  • After one day, the piece can be played by hand only.
  • Do not wear it outside before a stable patina forms.
  • Follow the “Four Protections” rule:
  • Protect from water
  • Protect from wind (air conditioning or cold drafts)
  • Protect from dryness
  • Protect from sunlight
  • Extra care is required during winter and spring, especially in dry climates, as improper care can easily cause cracking.

After Patina Formation

  • After one to two months of consistent playing, a natural patina will form.
  • At this stage, the carving becomes much more stable.
  • The piece can then be safely worn outside.

Final Thoughts

Olive pit Wenwan is not about speed or perfection; it’s about time, touch, and transformation. Each well-played piece becomes a personal record of patience and care, making it truly one of a kind.

3. Are olive pit carvings suitable for beginners?
Plain olive pit bracelets are beginner-friendly, while carved pieces require more patience and care experience.

4. How long does it take to see visible color change?
