Lautanauhavyö // Tablet woven belt

Syyskuussa tehty lautanauhavyö. Oltiin harjoiteltu lautanauhoja ensimmäisenä vuonna, joten päätin tehdä asustetehtävään samalla tekniikalla vyön. Yleensä lautanauhoissa on nelikulmaisia lautoja, mutta haasteen vuoksi käytinkin kuusikulmaisia lautoja! Lankoina erillaiset villalangat joita koulun varastosta löytyi. Oli tosi hauskaa kutoa tätä!!

Tablet woven belt made in september. We had practiced the tablet weaving technique last year, and I loved it. So, I decided to use it for this belt. Usually the tablets are squares, but I wanted some challenge, thus hexagons was the next step! I used different kinds of wool yarns that I found at school. It was really fun to make this!!

Spent the latter half of last week cranking out the voiceover for a very long presentation which means I spent half of Thursday and most of Friday staring at the computer. So today I decided to put off editing and grading the Fence Hopper Socks pattern until tomorrow and stare at something not on a screen.

Inspired by @hellohydrangea ‘s foray into tablet weaving, I bought a set of cards and a variety pack of crochet cotton. I also realized that the loom she had built looked a lot like my jewelry loom. So after many many hours of trial and error, I got it warped and started a small sampler. Once it’s set up, it goes really smoothly, and the set up issues are totally due to the fact that I was trying to figure out how to translate it to my loom.

Little bit of narrow warp work this morning, with some measurements & close-ups. Two motifs from the Anne Dixon book, pg 34. Measures 7/8”. It took me a while to figure out how to get started again this morning, but I did. Next time I will make the outer border threads a different color. Then the Oseberg weave from the Elewys video weave-along. I’m doing 24 turns forward, 24 turns back. You can see the change in pattern when the switch occurs. Today’s progress - two more pickup motifs from the Anne Dixon book; colors selected for the first tablet woven band in the weave-along. Yarns are Knit Picks Curio crochet cotton, and I ended up using 3 - dk gray (Ash), lt gray (Silver) and the darker almost-purple (I call it plum, but it’s labeled Comfrey). New Schacht inkle loom from @halcyonyarn, ordered *yesterday*, just arrived! Amazingly fast service! I’m astonished at the color change between the okd one and the new one. Have I done anything on my original to-do list for the last couple of days? No. Did I get incredibly distracted and make a rudimentary loom out of shit that was in my garage. Yes.

The trough was originally a planter box that got built at the beginning of the pandemic lock down last year and never hung up. I hoard scraps of wood and leather (because of course I do) and I found a pack of rubberized hooks in my tool cabinet. I did have to buy wing nuts and the metal bars. But all told this cost me about $10 and I’m quite happy with how functional it is.
