I was captivated by illuminated manuscripts when I was a kid, so now my work is all about making this beautiful world of art and legend accessible to my kids and others - young ones need to engage in handiwork that is valuable and significant, and they need to imagine a world full of valor and beauty, for they will be the ones to make it!
For the first time in literal years I’ve done a drawing! And it even has colour in it!
I’m really pleased to be doing some drawing again, and am really happy with how this turned out. Many thanks to @moonintheabyss for xir help with the colours.
So this is a multifandom thing, combining images for the idol/idol adjacent groups I’m into:
The moth is for Phantom Siita, including being based on the Epicopeia hainesii moth which they get their names from, and the knotwork being coloured the four members’ colours.
The fox head is for BABYMETAL, including the red, blue eye and pink teeth for Su, Moa and Momo respectively.
The boar’s head is for ATARASHII GAKKO! (chosen after the “Youthful Boar” name of their movie) including doing the three white stripes in the blue hair.
There is a fabulous resource for learning macrame at free-macrame-patterns.com with picture tutorials for a whole range of knots and patterns, and the owner can no longer upkeep the website so it is CLOSING IN APRIL 2026.
I’m going to attempt to .pdf most webpages but take a look and save what you need because it’s such a good resource!
I figured out a pattern based on an image of someone’s woven diagonals. Have not yet tried weaving it but I am optimistic. Source image is on the page below.
Getting some of the handbound Eddas out in the mail this morning before I start getting together the Appaloosa music festival setup. I have a lot of page sewing on my plate over the next few weeks!
The September project will have not just an Anglish retelling of the Gospel story in the style of the Heliand, but also a complete translation of the Dream of the Rood along with the Old English original. It will be a truly mickle Christ Mass gift!
Good morning! Finished up the goldwork for the incipit page redesign, from Latin to Old English for the September project. Illumination is on 11 x 14" goatskin vellum; I needed something to paint this weekend while I’m at Appaloosa Music Festival this weekend.
