my pelican: don’t make me ground you from heralding!
me: you don’t need to, I already grounded myself 😔
I am slowly discovering what sort of monster is created when a SCAdian be comes a Potterstan.
I inherited a pile of shire history stuff because I thought that being a chronicler couldn’t be that difficult and I’m now delving into research rabbit holes I haven’t seen since I finished my degree. granted its about shire/barony/kingdom level drama so you know thats all kinds of interesting but still!
Don’t even know how I’m going to share all this. I just know I’m probably about to become the kingdom historians best friend /threat
Mundane work has kept me from most practices this week. The rest of Ansteorra has gone to Gulf Wars. The sword journal shall resume when there are swords worth journalling.

HOLY COW!! That is amazing progress, I am so proud of you!! Make sure you take a proud authorization photo for me, okay? I hope that Pennsic is an AMAZING time and that you’re safe and happy and living the dream!
WELCOME HOME!! I’m excited for you, as well. AND you’re already bringing new people? You are amazing. <3 I hope you have a great time reconnecting!!
Had to back out of GW for this year. Circumstances. This world is a shitshow.
Fencing tonight:
I am in a weird place tonight. Got in a bunch because the coach wants me to go slow and focus on fundamentals. But I learn better at faster speeds and during passes.
Like I landed a few of the moves we were practicing agains opponents using offhands thanks to going medium-high soeed to snake through defenses, but was told I needed to slow down and focus on foundation not speed.
So I’m proud of myself for hitting the moves, but frustrated that it feels like it all boiled down to “fast = bad”
I’ll discuss it next practice and see if there is a way to address it.
Which of my Tumblr folk will I be seeing at Rowany Festival in only (if I don’t look at the calendar it can’t hurt me) weeks? I know for sure there’s some of you I’ve only Tumblmet that I’d love to actually say hi to.

YAY YOU’RE BACK!!
Firstly… I recently wrote and posted the first chapter of a Cabenson fic on AO3 and in it, I ANSWER THIS VERY QUESTION so please check it out if you’re interested!!!
But! Outside of that fic (which I’m calling the AaEA Cinematic Universe) and speaking generally, I feel very strongly that Olivia kissed Alex first. I think Alex has a much easier time compartmentalizing her feelings and playing it cool and controlling her attraction. I do not think Liv necessarily has those same abilities lmao I think Liv is far more likely to let it all build up, snap and kiss Alex with virtually no warning.
THANKS FOR COMING BACK, OP. I’ve enjoyed talking about my two WLW crimefighters with you recently and if it’s cool with you, I’m officially naming you Silly Cabenson Anon, or SCA (which is how I’ll be tagging your asks!) ❤️
Sword journal for 3/5/2026
War practice! Preparing for Gulf Wars.
The Good: Cohesion, synergy, and boldness continue to be our strengths. We continue to have good calls, locked shields, and good openings. As Rosalind’s confidence grows, so does our company’s skill.
why wont Tumblr let me delete this mistake of a poll
they’re being paid by the French to sabotage me
being paid by Trimaris to sabotage me before the war
See ResultsThe Bad: We tend to be inflexible. We don’t have the experience to be able to edit plans mid-exectution. It’s not an easy problem to solve.
The Ugly: I still am having intense trouble commanding from the shield wall. I can’t find the words and focus on staying alive at the same time, and I can’t see the bigger picture when I have Lord Speareveryday (it’s Welsh) nailing my ass repeatedly.
A fellow fighter passed on a bit of wisdom for us to try; when there is an excess of spears, try an arrowhead formation, with shields at the top of the spear. It’s something I’ll have to ponder, and I hope we get a chance to try it.
Additionally, if any good gentles have suggestions for genuine manuals of lineman tactics, id love to take a look. I just don’t have the faintest idea on where to start.
As for personal progress, i didn’t do nearly enough, but I did enough to know that last week was, indeed just a bad day of training. I was lighter on my feet, better at engaging, and faster. Still need to work on regaining control of the fight after it’s gone to craziness, but that’ll come with time.
Fencing tonight:
I’ve been trying to focus on proper posture from physio. I didn’t realize it was making me tense up, and hit harder than expected in fights.
Realized my finger grip issues is just a need to get a proper sword, but coach said in the mean time we can use an alternative grip.
Used a short sword (whole thing goes up to hip joint) and love it. Felt better for defensive style than the longer swords I borrow from other practices.
So far seems I want a short rapier that has a clam or bucket hilt and has the weight balanced towards the pommel for easier wrist movement instead of lunges.
I fear tonight’s practice made for very poor story telling. A business meeting, a hurt hand, and an abundance of drills do not lend themselves to the sincerity, insight, or entertainment that I strive to bring my Lovely Readers in each of these sword journal entries.
Our canton has begun to plan its annual tournament event and as it is still in planning and I am not a steward, there’s very little that I feel would be appropriate for me to share at present. My offhand was damaged yesterday in an horrible grocery accident, and today it still rather smarts, so I was not keen to brave sparring lest I worsen a healing wound. Instead I ran drills most of the evening and chatted with our newcomers. The marshall and I shared with them good cheer and beloved tales as we walked them through the basics of drilling one’s measure. I did a slight variation on the basic drill to rehearse the motions of an offline parry. Dreadfully exciting things I’m sure.
I hope to have something more substantial for you all tomorrow. The awful truth of the path is that sometimes it is not very exciting. One must learn to cherish the empty plains as much as they do the dark forests and soaring peaks.

Dressed up my Wukusi sallet overlay. Still need to make a new chin strap, but otherwise, it’s good to go to Gulf Wars
Archery today:
Practice starts up again.
Very excited.
Much need loaner gear.
Wow.
