Joseph von Fraunhofer was born on March 6, 1787. A German physicist and optical lens manufacturer. He made optical glass, an achromatic telescope, and objective lenses. He also invented the spectroscope and developed diffraction grating. In 1814, he discovered and studied the dark absorption lines in the spectrum of the sun now known as Fraunhofer lines. Fraunhofer produced various optical instruments for his firm. This included the Fraunhofer Dorpat Refractor used by Struve (delivered 1824 to Dorpat Observatory), and the Bessel Heliometer (delivered posthumously), which were both used to collect data for stellar parallax.

I can now whistle two notes at once. There’s still alot of wind, but it’s very clearly two notes when looking at a spectroscope.

The way I do this is by whistling through my teeth, then shaping my lips so that I whistle through my lips as well.

To anybody who wonders what it sounds like, it kinda sounds like a train whistle.

We are sooo weird! I thought a box (containing a large lego castle with figures) under a desk was all that was under there, but look what else I found today!

So there was:

a motorcycle helmet with a full purse and a Transformers knock off stuffed in it

a ceramic thing covered in flowers

a spectroscope (we own several actually)

a foam frisbee from Kennedy Space Center

a wooden bird shaped bowl from Yugoslavia

the logo of an Impala

some comic books

my long lost witch

I’m amazed it all fit in that little space behind the box! LOL

Eugene began by looking up a few DIY tutorials for building a spectroscope, and began gathering the materials needed:

The spectroscope went through three different iterations. The building process required a lot of trial and error, and lots of error.

Spectroscopes are instruments that use the properties of wavelength and light to investigate the composition of substances. Specifically, the atomic spectrum is used to learn about the composition of an object. White light is the type of light viewed by a spectroscope.

I got a really cheap spectroscope and I am looking at the spectra of various light sources.  Fluorescent lamps are the easiest source to find that has distinct emission lines.  Street lamps (often high pressure sodium lamps) are common but you have to walk outside to get close enough to one.  Some neon signs were near a place I frequent and those had some interesting spectra.  It was also possible to see the absorption spectra in sunlight.

Tiden är inte på min sida. För tredje dagen i rad påminns jag om något jag måste göra under den kommande veckan, som jag lyckats glömma bort, totalt. Stressen växer, men vad kan jag göra mer än att fortsätta andas?

Sitter hemma hos mina föräldrar nu. Igår åkte jag till min gamla hemstad för att få taktil massage av Karina på FMT Behandlingscenter. På väg dit från tåget mötte jag Louise, min gamla artistcoach. Hon sken upp och gav mig en varm kram. Det gav mig en positiv känsla för min vistelse i stan. Det finns goda krafter i världen även om vissa platser förknippas med hopplöshet. Samma känsla omslöt mig sen hos Karina efter taktilen och en pratstund. Resten av dagen lät jag oxytocinet ta över och mota bort adrenalinet. Förhoppningsvis ger det mig några dagar med ökad energi och minskad stress. Jag behövde det inför den här helgen fylld av rep och resten av veckan som ligger framför mig. Idag återuppstod Spectroscope och repade i fyra timmar på Balsta Musikslott inför en spelning på Sweden Prog Fest den 9 november. Imorgon repar vi med Tikkle Me inför spelningen nästa helg på KBG. Jag fyller min tid med goda företeelser som ger mig energi, men jag behöver vara vaksam så att de inte tar den tillbaka utan att det finns ett jämnt flöde mellan oss hela tiden. Och jag fortsätter andas.
