Integrity is not defined by the person, it is defined by the social contract of the group. The group defines who is in and out. Who is normal and who is a monster.
This is a wonderful exercise in determining how WE define a monster and how they try to be normal.
India’s Karnataka signals intent to ban social media for under-16s
Indian state Karnataka, home to the tech hub of Bengaluru, plans to ban children under 16 from using social media, joining a growing global movement that aims to curb young people’s access to online platforms despite questions over enforcement and effectiveness. Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah announced the decision during the state’s budget speech on Friday. “To prevent the adverse effects…
It’s one thing to believe God has provided a wife for a man, and another to understand the purpose behind that provision.
‘So God created man and woman and shaped them with his image inside them. In his own beautiful image, he created his masterpiece . Yes, male and female he created them. And God blessed them in his love, saying, “Reproduce and be fruitful! Populate the earth and subdue it! Reign over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every creature that lives on earth.” ’
Myanmar: The murder of children is the ‘clearest indicator of genocidal intent’
Myanmar: The Murder of Children is the ‘Clearest Indicator of Genocidal Intent’ In a landmark hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the legal battle over the fate of the Rohingya minority has intensified. As of January 2026, the court in The Hague has heard harrowing accounts of atrocities, with legal experts arguing that the systematic murder of children serves as the ultimate…
It doesn’t happen often but I’m juggling a few different projects right now both in content, intent, and length. And…
When that happens, I’m always struck by what each video needs… to become what it becomes. And what I’ve gotta do to make that happen.
For example, yesterday’s video was what I call a process video. Sort of a how a particular thing came to be. In order.
These tend to be very linear affairs so there’s not a ton of juggling involved.
This one was a short video, clocking in at a minute thirty-seven. As with all such videos, of course, each shot has to contribute something special so my first move is sorting everything into things of a kind, a process that tells you what the video’s center of gravity is gonna be.
My second move’s music ‘cause on my way into work I had an idea that led to another idea that led to the idea. So then I’m looking for music in service of that idea and find cuts that fall into two categories: what I’m looking for… and really REALLY what I’m looking for.
And then I take a close read of the script.
Whoops.
So far I was operating on my idea of the script without having, you know, read the script.
Neither flavor of music would work. As well, the footage recipe I was contemplating for putting this package together was exactly backwards.
Oof.
I haven’t done anything yet, of course. I’m just mentally setting the table, preparing myself to do the work.
So.
I find the music it takes to make this script sing… and then I start in. Front to back. In order of the photographer’s shooting, this photographer, by the way, having done me all kinds of favors with what they shot and how they shot it. They’ve literally provided for each sentence of the script so that, while it’s not exactly Paint By Numbers, it is having all the recipe ingredients right where you can find 'em.
Which I did.
And it was marvelous. ☺️
Now, by the time I’m done, it’s not quite end of day and I have the option to start in on the second package.
Once I read the script, though, I realize this next one requires a different process. And for that, I’ll require a different mindset. So a mental palate cleanser’s in order and I go home.
By the way, I don’t begin the second video the next morning. I start it that very night.

All the trees of the forest will know that I the Lord bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish.
It is extremely dangerous and also hard to hold right. In the right hands it can do wonders.
Everyone is running away from it though; theyre too fond of fresh cuts from the deli to cut it themselves. Manufactured originality.
All that time spent trying to make me more practical, so much time wasted sharpening the wrong end of the knife. Some things that should not be privileged are privileged, forcing people to specialise in situations that are unnatural to them. I wonder how many cleavers have been used as shovels.
The world right now seems to try to kill intent. Profit-driven survival has this nasty takeaway: what doesnt generate value for the shareholders doesnt belong to to the system. It may well not be intentional – this lapse of value may be a by-product of our lack of wisdom, but perhaps this lack of intent is the ultimate nail in the coffin for creative freedom.
Please explore your intent in a silence away from the imposition of others.
A marble riding the interior groove of a pail. The hula-hoop of its bottom’s area, speaking strictly mathematically, of course. Otherwise, we would have discovered it by now. Its sound, rhythmic and entrancing—the vibrations traveling through my hand and into my elbow softening the muscles in my arms from its unusually numb yet comforting sensation. Surely, the vibration having some sort of physiological effect upon my body is simply explainable.
“Someone smarter than me knows why I find enjoyment in it.”, thought without a morsel of irony. I swing and twist my arm to ensure the continued movement of the marble. An exercise in muscle memory and precision. I find myself doing repetitive actions with any number of my jointed body parts, and I also visualize myself doing these gestures in my mind while remaining physically motionless with shocking success and development.
The resonance is unique; it echoes and rings in waved ebbs and flows against the tinny metal ricocheting into my ear canal. My left ear’s hearing slightly obscured by my own body like the cone a dog is forced to wear post-op creating a distinct stereo effect as the pail swings back and forth. The metronome, or the hypnotist’s dangling medallion. A glass bead in a rusty bucket—my meek tool ‘du jour’ for this task.
“In one ear and out the other.” It’s what my maw always says. I didn’t used to take it literally, until now. This synchronicity sparks my engagement.
If I focus on the sound and the vibrations severely enough my vision begins to fade and my hearing muffles. A forced daydream activated purely by my motivation; my mind entering a state of awareness no longer entirely anchored by my perceptive-field but pushed much further away in the back of my skull fabricating a new vastness within and around me. I’d say it’s a fairly universal ability—more like an escape. Auto-pilot, if you will. There is no value here, in this; at least, inherent logic would like to make us think it seems to imply as much.
But sometimes I wonder if, perhaps, our bodily senses lie, perpetually. Might there be a logical reason for which I find solace behind my eyes deeply nestled? Squished down like a marshmallow—allowing the weight of the world to flatten me for just a moment compressing my stresses and worries like a trash compacter shrinking waste; then slowly allowing the pressure to release creating fullness once again. A mind exercise so similar to those idiosyncrasies of my physical body. And still, there remain few discussions of things of these natures—in neither meaningful nor scientific ways and certainly their frequency in every day havings and doings are minute to nil even while ignoring the fact that if brought up in normal conversation it would simply project confusion outwardly to others.
And yet, I often find myself there, on Auto-pilot. These fleeting moments of solitude represent disproportionately large portions of my self-perception. And it feels like, for me, that something imperative is found here in my own reflection—something lost to the heat of life and the combustible chemistry of interaction. Entropied away like inevitable molecular separation, but for a brief interval this phenomenon remains intact allowing for perplexing, foggy observation. A seeker searching, navigating the yawning trenches dug up by the past and buried again like the tides at shore; swallowed by deep shadows grappling at the ungraspable.
Who will confront this, or rather, who else could, if not me within myself and you within yours?
You’ll need three; one marble, one pail and a dollop of gusto.
Athletics intent on joining sportâ€s Goliaths but knows it has long way to go | Athletics
It really is quite the scene. Midnight in Tokyo, Usain Bolt is DJing and the launch party for the World Athletics Ultimate Championships is in full swing. And then the World Athletics chief executive, Jon Ridgeon, walks up to me and says: “I read your recent Guardian column, and I thought it was very unfair.†Imagine Gary Lineker going in two-footed, having never picked up a yellow card in…
