A little sample of Chapter 33: UNWELL
The words acted like a knife to Hawks’ gut. “You can’t go back.”
“I can,” Touya told him. “I want to.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m a little unwell, my love. And I need help to make it through this.”
“Let me help you,” Hawks pleaded, but it fell on deaf ears because Touya shook his head sadly at him, as if he pitied him. As if Hawks might never understand what he was trying to say.
Sympathy came to Touya’s face which did nothing to appease the ache spreading through him and stealing his breath. “Don’t you see, this is what you want.”
Disbelief caused him to scoff. “Why the hell would I want this?”
“I will be safe, Keigo. And it gives you seventy-two hours to figure out how these cards I’ve thrown in the air will fall.”
Moving to the door, Touya paused, then pulled out a little box from his pocket. Hawks stared at him for a moment, then asked, “Aren’t you going to kiss me goodbye?”
“No,” Touya said, then flipped the box at him, which Hawks snatched out of the air. “This isn’t goodbye.”
“Then why the fuck does it feel like goodbye?”
Shocking everyone, Touya laughed. A little manic. A little sad. And riddled with all the emotions they shared from desperate desolation to immense desire. Then Touya tilted Hawks head back with his index finger and whispered in a rasp, “Because you’ve always been more than a little dramatic.”
