some sketches of one of my other mha ocs, iori mitsuichi!

i’m still developing her backstory but i feel like she’d be a part of the league of villains… she probably enrolled at u.a. a while ago when she was a kid before she used that knowledge to become a criminal

her quirk, aerosol, allows her to create thin disks of diamonds from the carbon suspended in the air, which lets her walk on them and therefore “walk on the air”

infodumping about her being experimented on + full image of the first sketch lightly featuring multiple eyes under the cut

so her quirk’s aerosol, but she’s covered in cracks and eyes not because of her quirk, but because she was experimented on by garaki right as she got mixed up with all-for-one. she tried to receive a non-existent quirk through experimenting with garaki but it backfired and gave her memory loss instead, which then allowed him to experiment on her as he pleased because she wasn’t aware of her situation.

and now she has various eyes in places where eyes shouldn’t be which she keeps bandaged up and hidden so that others can’t see them. she also has porcelain-like cracks on some of the surfaces of her skin, also hidden with bandages

also yes. she can see normally through a few of her other eyes (like the ones on her hands and shoulders) but the rest are all only heat-sensing (like the ones underneath her right eye). if she’s not using them she keeps them covered and closed so that her brain doesn’t feel overstimulated when trying to process the vision of 7+ eyes (she was born with only two eyes like most people, so even after she got the hang of seeing with her extra eyes, her brain’s still not built to continuously be seeing through that many eyes at once so she still can’t use all of them constantly without getting mentally exhausted)

Ochaco hate HAS and NEVER will make any sense. If you have concerns over her character that’s fine but absolutely hating her for certain things that can apply to other characters just makes you hypocritical.

[Writing this response mostly as I read through your ask, let’s go]

I’m glad the length wasn’t too much! Yeah, I think I just focus on Izuku more in general, and as he is the main character I tend to circulate things around him. No expectations or judgement here, I just wanna absorb your thoughts lol (Also for the record, I will not be able to resist dragging my thoughts towards canon because I do my best not to interact much with parts of the fandom I don’t agree with.)

Exactly, like there’s no (good) reason for Bakugo to be like this! Yeah, like do you really like him if you only like your justified version? Like this is a safe space, y'all can admit you don’t like purely canon him. Like frankly there are very few characters in MHA that I actually love when I look purely (and completely) at canon. Hori’s a bad writer, it’s fine to not like his characters. (Genuinely though, the amount of MHA characters that are my babies until I remember them at the start of canon is crazy. Why is everyone the worst when they’re first introduced?? And yes, obviously growth and everything, but that stuff leaves a bad taste in my mouth towards characters.)

Yeah, the abuse thing goes into my whole “you can interpret canon however you want, but that doesn’t make it true” thing. Like I view canon Inko as neglectful & controlling, but I will admit that that doesn’t make it canon. But Bakugo fans almost always (I’ve had good interactions and discussions with Bakugo fans) act like it’s undeniably canon that Mitsuki is abusive. And genuinely because of what (like I’m really not entirely sure)? Because she’s loud and hit him once? I assume people are talking about the dorm conversation (like with Aizawa) when they call her abusive (because that’s really the only thing I can think/know of). And if that is what they’re talking about, personally I always viewed that hit as kinda stylized, if that makes sense. Like in actuality, it’s a love tap (which I don’t know if that’s a term other people use, but it’s basically like a light, friendly swat more than anything) and Bakugo jerking forward from it is for comedic effect [ah, I just read your mention of it as a gag, my bad]. I’ve never heard about the quirk marriage theory, that sounds so stupid.

I actually will say, chaining Bakugo up was not at all okay. It’s just humiliation, dehumanization, and loss of bodily autonomy played as a gag; and that’s all just really icky for me. (Resisting the urge to go on a tangent about the constant loss, lack, and lack of respect of/for Izuku’s autonomy in canon.) Also I rewatched that scene the other day (I actually made a post about this), and Bakugo isn’t even that aggressive to Todoroki? Like none of the teachers were even like “okay, that’s enough” before they just had Midnight blast him (which that part is whatever, it’s the chaining up on live TV that gets to me). And it’s like say what you will about Bakugo, but whew boy! The double standards! Bakugo commits attempted murder towards Izuku? Nobody fucking cares. But Bakugo picks up and gets a little loud with an unconscious Todoroki (on live television because that could also be where the double standard is originating from) without even activating his quirk? Have him strung up on the palace walls for his crimes! Anyway, you’re right about Bakugo fans hypocrisy (I just don’t have much to contribute to that lol).

Yeah, I have a post about this (I might actually have a couple, idk, they’re short posts iirc). The gist is that I like bkdk when you remove everything that makes their backstory, their backstory. Which it’s like, at that point I’m often just basically reading original fiction instead of fanfiction. Oh yeah, no, that’s the worst; when they make Bakugo some white knight while Izuku’s canon friends act like the most bad faith interpretation of themselves.

Yes, exactly! Like bro, we all have irredeemable characters who are our babies; it’s fine! Just acknowledge the fact that there’s no canon, justifiable reason for him being the way he is, and be happy! Like I’ll do a cheeky little “but we don’t talk about that” when thinking/talking about specific unjustifiable actions that my favs have done (you likely won’t find this online because I don’t engage with fandoms for things I really like outside of fanart). But they’re not being cheeky, they’re going “how dare you talk about his unjustifiable actions for what they are?” And it’s like, scroll past?? Don’t come in here all defensive like I showed up at your house to tell you your opinions are wrong? I really think people need to learn how to not engage with things they don’t want to engage with. Like I’ve said it before, if you respond to my post, I’m going to assume you’re open to discussion.

Okay, more largely unfamiliar (to me) territory in the fandom. Like I feel like I’ve heard this stuff about Mineta, but it never felt like an actual sub-community? Like it’s either joking/crack fics or misogynists? I do feel like a lot of those types of fanfics are self-aware and knowingly fanon, but idk. I actually have a (recorded, unposted) rant about how yes, it’s a trope in anime/manga, and though it should stop, at least other pervert characters offer something to the stories/characters outside of the gag; and that’s why Mineta is worse than the usual trope.

Sorry, they said it was homophobic?? [This is starting to feel like watching one of those youtube recap videos of random internet drama lol]

Don’t kill me (/light-hearted, I’m sure you don’t care that much), but I’m not that into yuri? Idk I like background yuri ships, and I fuck heavily with tgck as a concept and in art, but I don’t really read yuri-centric stuff so I wouldn’t know much about that part of the fandom.

I loved reading your thoughts, and I hope you enjoy this reply just as much! I’m sorry if there wasn’t as much slander as you would have liked, I don’t have much to say about the fandom. I will say (once again, probably) though, so much of my hatred for Bakugo comes from his actions being unacknowledged in canon and fanon. Gotta pick up the slack lol

If I had to name my top three favorite shounen anime/manga, they’d be:

3. Owari no Seraph (manga)

2. Hell’s Paradise (anime)

1. My Hero Academia (anime)

I know, the number one pick is extremely shocking.

Summary:

“What are you doing out here?” Enji rumbles, which Hawks figures is a fair enough question given it’s not even three in the morning. The moon hangs low over the city, its full roundness sharp and crystal clear in the night.

He shivers, no wings at his back any longer to wrap around himself to keep warm. He should have put on a shirt, instead of just grabbing the first pair of pajama pants he’d found strewn on the floor. They’re Enji’s, and even with the drawstring pulled as tight as it will go, they sit low on his hips.

Still, the chilly air feels nice on his face. If he closes his eyes, he can almost imagine he’s flying.

Or, Hawks and Enji after the war.

Yamada gave me the a-okay to hang out after school!

To be honest I’ve been pretty quiet since messaging my friends. I hope Mei knows I’m not mad at her, I’ve just got a lot going on. I’m really glad PowerLoader lets people listen to music with headphones in during lab.

Working on my support items mostly and listening to music at the moment. It’s nice..to let my hands work on something without having to think too much about it.

I’m considering filling the void left by RPs with writing fanfiction. Despite being a writer, I couldn’t tell you the last time I wrote fanfiction. I must’ve been in high school, so roughly 20 years ago. Still, I am slightly considering putting my OCs in episodic adventures as Class 1-A students. I’d even call it “My Hero Academia: Multiverse of Madness,” right down to my Captain America parody of a male OC who literally has the power to travel the multiverse.

I realize I have a polarizing style of writing, to say the least, so maybe writing actual fanfics would cut out the middleman. I suppose I’d better figure out how this AO3 thing works.

Even though I have a lot more fun bouncing ideas off of people, I know when to cut my losses. I’ll just opt for a different place to mentally play with my action figures.

Title: shopping mishaps
Summary: Eri was quiet. Polite. Withdrawn. The exact opposite of every child her age that he’d ever met. Maybe taking her on a shopping trip might help her break out of her shell.ALT

A/N: For the Guardian zine! As much as I love writing Eri with her big bros, Aizawa also deserves some Eri time. Though, he might not be ready for it XD Life is hard when you’re a withdrawn child with a withdrawn adult. I was trying to keep this fun and light, and ahhh, it was so difficult. I really need to practice this genre.

Eri was quiet. It was not a trait Aizawa normally associated with children, especially after his years of teaching high school. Even in his work as a pro-hero, he’d grown accustomed to liveliness. Most heroes were loud and boisterous, their voices having to carry further to reach those in need. Even those who were more reserved like Aizawa tended to carry themselves with some degree of confidence.

Then again, most of the people Aizawa dealt with were teenagers and adults. The last child he’d interacted with was a brat who liked playing pranks.

He glanced down at his ward as she clutched his hand. As expected for a Saturday, the mall was crowded, bustling with bored teenagers and harried families. Eri’s small hand gripped his fingers tightly as she pressed against his leg. Despite her obvious discomfort, she hadn’t said a word.

Despite his rusty knowledge, Aizawa was certain few children remained this quiet in face of their fears.

“Eri,” he said, drawing her attention to him. He hunched over, though it wasn’t nearly enough to get down to her level. “Are you okay?”

Eri stared at him with wide eyes. She glanced at the crowds around him before nodding. “Yes.”

Children were terrible liars.

Aizawa stared at her flatly. Even now, she was pressed against his leg, more burr than human. “Are you sure?” he asked again.

“Yes,” Eri repeated, still glued to his leg, still avoiding the gazes of the cooing parents as they caught sight of her. Her slight body flinched whenever someone got too close.

He resisted the urge to click his tongue. As the psychiatrist had reminded him several times, her mind was in a fragile state. Any sign of disapproval and she could spiral downwards. Perhaps it would have been better for Eri to live with one of the other teachers. Maybe it was his big mouth, but Hizashi was good with children.

Unfortunately, it was Aizawa’s powers that were needed.

Unfortunately

At least Eri wasn’t trembling. Despite her fearful behaviour, she peered around the mall curiously. They’d gone early enough that the crowd sizes were tolerable and despite Eri’s fearful behaviour, she peered around the mall curiously. Her body showed no indications of fleeing, her little horn unchanged, and for now, at least, she could manage. Aizawa had already taken note of all the exits and the second she wanted to leave, he could just whisk her out of here.

Luckily, they had a clear goal here: get Eri supplies. And a list to follow so they didn’t need to aimlessly wander.

The biggest hurdle with their new living arrangements was that Aizawa was a bachelor. Living in a bachelor’s apartment. One utterly devoid of any children’s goods, be it toys, clothing, books, or even a simple stuffed animal. As it was, he barely had a second room for her to sleep in. Then there were small things like plastic cups and safety measures like cupboard locks and he wished that when Nezu had sent over inspectors to take note of what was needed, he had also just brought all the goods with him.

Instead, here they were. Shopping.

Aizawa slowly released his breath and guided Eri toward the closest clothing store.

When they entered, it was easy enough to see her reservations had thawed. Slightly. Eri was still holding his hand, still close to him, but she wasn’t pressed against his leg anymore. Awe coloured her expression as she took in the bright clothes, the cartoons on the walls, the toys dangling from the ceiling.

An improvement. Good. Aizawa idly scanned the racks upon racks of clothing around him. The neon lights had him itching to pull out his eye drops. Children’s clothing had changed since his childhood and he couldn’t recognize the weird dogs and pigs emblazoned on most of the shirts. Just what cartoons were popular now? By the time kids became teenagers, they outgrew all of these. It was hard to imagine asking Bakugou about his favourite. Though, Izuku or Mirio might have known. Maybe he should have brought them. They got along well with Eri.

“Who is your—” Aizawa cut himself off. Favourite hero? The answer was obvious: Mirio and Izuku. But they were years away from getting their own merchandise.

Eri glanced up curiously. “My?”

“Is there anything you want?” he asked instead.

Once again, she shook her head. “No.”

The lie was just as obvious as last time. Her eyes darted from rack to rack even as she shied from replying. Aizawa held back a sigh. The hard way it was. “Favourite colour?” he asked as he slowly led her forward through the racks.

“Re—” Eri cut herself off, her free hand gripping her skirt tightly. “Nothing.”

Red. He could work with that. The racks towered over Eri, hiding her like a mouse in the forest. Dresses and skirts hung to their right, jeans and shirts to the left. As he slowly wound their path through each section, making sure to circle every item before moving on, Aizawa watched Eri from the corner of his eye. Her free hand reached out to touch the brown corduroy overalls, surprise crossing her face at the texture of it. At a red velveteen dress, she flinched as the fabric grazed her palm.

The colours she gravitated the most to were red, yellow, and green. It didn’t take a genius to realize the other two were Mirio’s and Izuku’s colours. As they passed a red dress, Aizawa grabbed it and held it out. “Do you want this?”

“Ye—” Eri caught herself again and quickly stiffened. “Do you?”

Yes, but that was mainly so they could finish. Aizawa would have bought the same outfit six times if he could. “What’s your size?”

“Size?” Eri repeated, confused.

If he remembered correctly, the size was the same as the age for children. Probably. He grabbed three different ones just in case. “Can you put this on yourself?”

“Myself?” Eri swallowed, her hands clutching her skirt once more.

She still wasn’t comfortable with them separating then. Aizawa glanced around for a familiar change room sign. Guardians were allowed in with their children, right?

-x-

Aizawa tried not to look at the receipt. Children’s clothing was expensive. His own clothes cost far less despite using more fabric (his scarf alone could wrap around Eri twice). There was a scam somewhere in this. Maybe he should report this to the Bureau of Consumer Protection; even a hero couldn’t just go and punch a CEO.

At least Nezu said he’d reimburse expenses.

Still holding his pant leg, Eri smiled as she swung her purchases back and forth. The shirt was the lightest thing he could let her carry and even then, the small plastic bag dragged against the floor as she walked.

He exhaled softly as he crumpled the receipt and put it into his pocket. It was a small price to pay if it made her that happy.

Their next stop was an electronics store. Rows of television screens greeted him when he entered, each playing the same children’s cartoon. Small dogs wearing colourful hats ran across a burning town before jumping into giant robots to attack a monster. Someone had the foresight to mute it all. He could only imagine what it’d sound like with the volume on.

As he flagged down an employee, Eri let go of his pant leg and took a step to the right. Not too far, still close enough to grab him again if she needed to. Aizawa resisted the urge to smile and turned to the centaur trotting toward him with an employee tag named Ume

“Can I help you?” Ume asked when she was close enough.

“Yeah.” Aizawa glanced at the list again. “I need child protection sockets.”

Not off-put by his brusque manners, Ume smiled brightly. “Of course! I guess she’s getting to the age where she’ll want to stick forks in sockets.”

That was not a fear he had until now.

“You can buy a pack for cheap,” Ume continued cheerfully, pointing at aisle six. “They’re on the right, packs of twenty. Should be enough for almost every socket you have. If you want, you can also get the fun outlet covers!”

“I’m good—”

As though he hadn’t spoken, Ume pointed at aisle seven. “We have some Disney princess themed ones your daughter might like. I think we even have one with those Super Pups on it. She’s a fan?”

He didn’t bother to correct her. Aizawa wasn’t even sure if she’d listen anyways. Turning around, Aizawa stared at the empty spot next to him. And then at the TV quite a few feet further away, where Eri was staring up as though she were hypnotized. Her chubby hands were clenched tightly, her eyes wide with excitement as she watched a dog parachute off a plane.

“What’s that show?” Aizawa asked, still watching Eri.

“Super Pups.” Ume chuckled. “At least there aren’t any songs to hear over and over. You don’t know how painful it is when the Disney craze happens.”

Aizawa turned his attention back to the employee. “Where is that show?”

“Where…oh, you mean.” Ume pursed her lips, tapping her chin. “Disney Plus. I think.”

Somehow her answers were worse than Eri’s. “What channel?”

“Not a channel,” Ume corrected gently, still laughing. “Disney Plus.”

Aizawa gave her a blank look.

Ume paled. “Oh. We’re starting from there.”

-x-

By the time they were at the last stop of the day, the toy store, Eri wasn’t holding him at all. Just like with the clothing store, her eyes were awe-filled as she stared at the mountains of plushies and Lego blocks, her lips forming a soft o as she was bombarded with loud colours and cheerful music.

Aizawa eyed Eri. Even now, she held the small clothing bag in her hand, clutching it with all the strength of a six-year-old determined to accomplish her job of the day. While she didn’t wander far from him, she hadn’t looked for him once since they’d entered the shop. It was a far cry from the morning.

Perhaps this time he would get an answer. Aizawa cleared his throat. When she glanced at him, he asked, “Is there anything you want?”

Her eyes widened and he held his breath without thinking. Then Eri shook her head once more. “No,” she replied politely.

It wasn’t enough then. An odd sense of disappointment filled him, but it had only been a few hours. Change didn’t happen that quickly, after all. He should know. He’d been dealing with his class for the past year and Bakugou still thought his hero name was a solid choice.

Besides, Aizawa knew what to do now.

Eri was a quiet girl, but her body spoke volumes. Her eyes kept flicking to a big white unicorn plushie. Vaguely, he recalled Izuku and Mirio had taken her to a unicorn café one time, that she had taken to the mythical beast because it had a horn just like she did.

Walking over, he picked the plush and dropped it in his basket. “Anything else?”
