~ Horizons Ep. 114
On Friday night, my boyfriend and I sat on the couch for a refreshing evening of doing nothing together. We tuned into a baseball game, he picked up my guitar, and I eagerly booted up “Pokémon Pokopia,” the thirty-year-old franchise’s new cozy, life simulator game, which is unlike anything we’ve seen from Pokémon before.
I narrated my experience as I played, explaining the process of constructing…

horizons where none of the characters have brain cells that can actually function, except the main characters because the spheres release globally yet no one questions how pokemon start acting under its effects.

JUST FINISHED HORIZONS ARC 1……. my dreams of gibeluci touching each other have been destroyed
For as much of an amusement park and roller coaster enjoyer that I am, I’ve never really had a strong interest in Disney or their parks. When I go to a park, I mainly look for thrills and coasters. While Disney (specifically talking about Walt Disney World in Florida) does have some good looking coasters like Expedition Everest, Tron Lightcycle Run and Guardians Cosmic Rewind, going to their parks has never been a top priority of mine.
Despite that though, there is one former Disney ride that I so badly wish I could have experienced, and that’s Horizons at Epcot. Ever since I first watched a video about the ride’s history about 10 years ago, I’ve had a real fondness for it. The ride opened in 1983 and closed in 1999 after opening sporadically since 1994, so it was well before my time, but at least it’s been thoroughly archived online. But something about it’s story of hope, exploration, space and the human spirit just really gets me, y'know. It’s similar to the kind of feeling I get when thinking about the Voyager golden records (case and point). From the design of the building itself to it’s amazing sets and projections, it’s all just so captivating.
The artistry that went into that ride was really something special. I mean just look at this stunning mural, titled The Prologue and the Promise painted by Robert McCall that was displayed as guests exited the ride. I so wish that something with this level of care, compassion, artistry, ingenuity and hope could be built again. I don’t know who would take on that kind of challenge and put in the necessary time and care to do it. But as I’ve mentioned, if Horizons stood for anything, it was hope. And hope really is something special.
