I do not know the people in this photograph taken at the monument marking the Chilean terminus of the Panamericana. Chile and Argentina dispute, as with many other things, the true southern end of the road which begins in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and, with a break in the Darien in Panamá, runs the north to south length of the Americas. A few days ago I posted a photo of the end of the Panamericana in Argentina. In order to reach that end of the road one must use a ferry to cross to Tierra del Fuego. The Chilean end can be reached without a ferry trip.

Reverse exodus traffic built up on major Malaysian highways on Feb 18 as holidaymakers returned to Kuala Lumpur and surrounding urban centres following the end of Chinese New Year celebrations, according to the Malaysian Highway Authority. Chile and Argentina dispute, as with many other things, the true southern end of the Pan Americana which begins in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and, with a break in the Darien in Panamá, runs the north to south length of the Americas. Ruta Nacional 3 is the Argentinian section of that road, and its southernmost point shown in these photos is a bit further south than the southernmost point in Chile.
