National Non-GMO Month is celebrated every October. The annual event was first created by The Non-GMO Project; a nonprofit organization pushing to protect the consumers right to know what’s in their food, including transparency on genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
GMOs are organisms that’s DNA has been modified using genetic engineered technology. In foods, GMO crops that are grown from GMO seed, have been modified with additional genes for various purposes including acceleration of plant growth, enhancement of nutritional values, enhanced flavors, sustainability, as well as pest and disease resistance. Using these scientific technologies, companies can create seeds with their desired traits. In the US, GMO seeds are commonly used in many crops of soy, cotton, and corn. Some other less common GMO crops grown in the US are soybean, potatoes, summer squash, and some varieties of apples.
While the enhancements made utilizing GMOs sound impressive, many believe the dangers of these organisms far outweigh the benefits. Their inclusion in our foods and supplements is extremely controversial. Our company only uses non-GMO ingredients in all the supplements we manufacture, as well as the foods we eat. Here’s what we know.
Why should you avoid GMOs?
While some believe that enhanced flavors, improved survival of plants, increased nutritional value and less use of pesticides are great reasons to trust GMO enhanced organisms, when you sit back and think about it, you need to ask yourself if the risks of putting genetically modified organisms in your body is smart? Research shows countless reasons to avoid genetically modified foods, beverages, and supplements. Some concerns include potentially dangerous health effects like antibiotic resistance and increased allergic reactions, unknown long and short-term health issues, and disruption of the gut and intestines, to name a few.
Environmentally, GMOs are linked to increased herbicide use, the development of superweeds (weeds that are difficult to control and damage crops), reduced biodiversity, and potential harm to other organisms like bees and monarch butterflies. Additionally, there are economic and social concerns, such as small farmers becoming dependent on large GMO producing corporations and potential risks to genetic diversity.
Purpose of Non-GMO Month: To highlight the public’s right to choose foods and products that do not contain GMOs and to educate consumers about GMOs. Many natural food stores and organizations participate in Non-GMO Month by offering information, promotions, and non-GMO products.
Verification: All our supplements are manufactured in an FDA licensed facility in the US, utilizing quality, non-GMO ingredients and are clearly marked this way on their labels. Always check your labels!
How to participate: Always check labels at the store so you know what you are putting in your body. Chose products that are clearly marked as using non-GMO ingredients. Also knowledge is your best defense so research more on GMOs and how to choose non-GMO products.
To conclude, while some in the GMO industry might say that consuming GMO enhanced foods are safe, the bottom line is there is not enough long-term research about their dangers. Putting bio-engineered organisms in your body just sounds like a bad idea, so why would we? Quality brands marked clearly as containing no non-GMO ingredients are available to use and can be your first choice when shopping for you and your family. With knowledge, we can make the best health decisions for our loved ones. @diamondformulas.com/blog

On a sweltering afternoon in Nairobi, a crowd gathers outside the Ministry of Agriculture. They are farmers, mothers, students, boda riders, and elders. Their voices rise like waves, carrying cardboard signs and songs of defiance. Among them is a young woman named Mwikali, a second-generation farmer from Machakos.
“I don’t want to feed my children food that’s been tampered…
Captain Edgar pirates plants, I think. Not him directly, but the people on his ship. He buys more expensive, non-sterile crops, and his crew pirates plants sometimes, taking cuttings and pocketing seeds.
The state of agriculture is. A bit of a mess. I want food to be semi-accesible, so while (unmodified/non-sterile) seeds are expensive, the crops themselves aren’t. You can buy blueberries at a reasonable price, but if you want to grow your own? Ha, no. That’ll cost you thousands of chirps for the seeds, not to mention the soil—careful, if you buy organic soil you can’t take it off planet.
fascinating. looked these up and really enjoyed reading about the ones you picked. bright, sweet, and musky scents are what i usually wear so you nailed it! ive been wearing amber oud gold by al haramain as my signature scent this summer. perfumes are so fun
The inventors of GMOs, (Herbert Boyer and Stanley Cohen,) deserve to be up in the ranks of most important scientists of all time next to George Washington Carver, my homeboy Mendel, and the Chinese monk/nun who invented inoculation.
fellow munchmans exciting announcement for nightly munch a new munc h has dawned upon the horixzon of understanding the moon waxes haughtily in attempts to silence me i refuse to stand for this my paws have carried me this far and no one shall thwart my ever empowering body and soul

nothing makes me so rage filled as when people ignore blatant science. “this leads to-“ what study. what are you quoting. what mechanism are you describing.
i dont expect everyone to be hyper aware of every issue and know the science behind everything, but when someone brings evidence in front of your face and you won’t even look at it- or worse, look at it and don’t even try to consider it- then what are you even doing?
this may specifically be about the use of gmos and gm crops. and maybe about carcinogens in food/what food is and why. and definitely vaccines.
what I guess im trying to say is that you need to stop fear mongering, and you need to research. when someone brings up evidence against you, look at it, consider it, and THEN decide if it’s credible/plausible/related to your issue. please god we have the culmination of thousands of years of knowledge and you want even listen to it
Some clipboard jockey on the way to the hotel from the con floor: Do you have sixty seconds to talk about the environment?
Me to Sean: If he’s from Greenpeace, I am morally allowed to fight him.
Sean: Keep walking.
Me: They’re still can’t grow golden rice in the Phillipines because of Greenpeace!
Sean: I know. I know.
There’s such a negative stigma surrounding GMOs when they’re literally fine. I never want to see non-gmo on a food again.
Now, non-monsanto..? THAT would make me want to buy a product!
