I love how flatworms have these eyespots that make them look so goofy. Perfect animal design, 10/10.
My specimen is a little beat up so here’s a better one I pulled off Animal Diversity Web:

I’m so fucking done with flatworms. Why is it that almost every other kind of worm is fine with doing extracellular digestion and having a gut with 3 segments, but these b!tches need to digest both in- and outside of their cells and have a gut with only 2 segments? And they aren’t even consistent at it, lots of them have 3 segments instead! They could just decide to be a proper phylum like annelids but noooooooo, they must be acting out cuz they are nature’s special little children!
Also, did you know that some of them fence with their penises? And the loser is punished by having to be female? (Polyclad flatworms, Lindsay Nicole has an excellent video on this and other unusual mating habits on YouTube.) I swear if I see anything else eccentric from flatworms I’m gonna scream.
A surprising new study reveals that dogs and cats may be helping an invasive flatworm spread. A new study published today (February 10) in the journal PeerJ has uncovered an unexpected way an invasive flatworm is spreading across France. The research was led by a scientist from the Institute of Systematics, Evolution and Biodiversity (ISYEB) […]

Shovel-headed Garden Worms (Bipalium kewense), taken October 31, 2025, in Georgia, US
A couple of flatworms hiding under a soaked chunk of wood! These guys were both a bit disoriented by the sudden removal of their ceiling and, in the case of the one in the top image, were slow to flip themselves over. This species, like all flatworms, prefers damp, dark places but can sometimes be seen in the open if it’s humid out or a bit wet. These flatworms can get quite long, and I’ve seen a couple very thick ones before, but the larger of these two individuals looks like a spaghetti noodle!

Happy flatworm Friday to the finished piece that got me fourth place in my invertebrate class’s extra credit art show

My new Hollow Knight oc, they are a non-parasitic flatworm
After the disappearance of Unn, they went on to work in the cogwork on small tools and trinkets after a very long time of traveling different waterways

…or their informal unofficial nickname Freddius Tricaudatus.
it has a tusk either side of its chin,
a fangs protruding from the outside of each cheek on its face,
and a pair of modified nostrils,
that stick out to the sides like a mustache,
each with a single finger-like talon claw protruding from the end,
with the sickle-like inside edge of it pointing forwards,
kinda like a bobbit worm.
its mouth, located at the front of the abdomen,
can shoot out a pair of praying mantis like hooked blade arms,
or more accurately more like a mantis shrimp,
that snatch prey and pull them directly into their belly.
also its tail (yes, tail, not its foot) has 3 feathered appendages,
which despite being fanned out left to right,
kinda look a bit like a rooster’s tail.
also, despite its male parts being located in its head like normal,
its female parts are located in its chest, like molluscs.
in case you’re wondering about the name,
‘zombie’ just means that it has 3 tail feathers.
yeah, that was the original meaning of the word zombie,
before we somehow used that word to replace the word ghoul.
i wanna see this as someone’s oc.
