#Dopo soli sedici giorni/After only sixteen days

“Tutti i dittatori della Roma repubblicana, meno uno, furono patrizi. Tutti, meno due, rispettarono i limiti di tempo che furono loro imposti. Uno di essi, Cincinnato, che, dopo soli sedici giorni di esercizio della suprema carica, tornò spontaneamente ad arare il campo coi buoi, è passato alla storia coi colori della leggenda.”

SOCIAL NETJERKS

by Bill Kochman

https://www.billkochman.com/Poetry

10-08-2023

You have heard of social networks,
No doubt you are even on a few,
There’s something bad about them,
Which will leave you in a stew.

Their thought police patrol you,
Oh how they so love to moderate,
They all play by their own rules,
With power to control your fate.

We hear talk about social justice,
But I wonder if it really works,
For when I try to speak my mind,
There come those social netjerks.

They all hide behind their power,
In the shadows they silently wait,
But if you go against their agenda,
They accuse you of a crime of hate.

Well, there’s really just no winning,
Because their judgment is absolute,
And if you should dare to defy them,
They will simply give you the boot.

A Dictionary of Dictators

Part 2. Cambodia: Pol Pot & the Khmer Rouges

We lived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 1956 to 1957. My father had been detached from Air France to run the newly formed National airline, Royal Air Cambodge.

Cambodia had obtained their independence from the French in November 1953, with Prince Norodom Sihanouk as head of state.  In 1954, the defeat of the French Army by the Ho Chi Minh’s Viet Minh…

Let me guess. He’s gonna appear in a month perfectly healthy and with all the signs of diseases gone. Almost like he died and was replaced.

Just like a certain guy named Vladimir.

Whoever managed to gaslight the whole world into thinking that Putin is alive, was practicing before doing the same thing with Trump. I’m not much for conspiracy theories, but the pattern is pretty clear.

If I’m wrong, I’ll publicly admit that I’m wrong. But I can’t shake the feeling that someone is trying to pull the exact same thing.

A Dictionary of Dictators

Introduction

I’ve lived in or travelled to more than 40 countries, over most continents: Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas. Developed and ‘emerging’ countries. (Though the word ‘emerging’ I find misleading.) I’ve lived in all shades of political governance. From democracies to dictatorships.

In those days when America is moving fast towards authoritarianism, where the Rule of One replaces the…
