ok i’m gonna make a quick thing about this but there’s a bunch of different roles for angels in cease to suspire, their main job is to watch over everything and deliver information to be stored in the giant hivemind which is situated in what is essentially the center of the universe and this task is divied up into roles, which will be under the read more

Angels called anchors are assigned to each planet to keep a watchful eye and every so often report info back to headquarters (the hivemind) to keep them updated. So little planets sustain life however that there isn’t crazy much going on, so being an anchor would be really boring unless you’re lucky enough to be assigned a life sustaining planet. Anchors are not allowed to leave their post (unless there is an authorized reason) until it basically ceases to exist and along with it probably them, where they’ll then have fulfilled their role and get recycled. (charys, for example, is one of the anchors assigned on earth)
Messengers are probably the most important role of them all, because without them any info or messages from the anchors would not be received to headquarters. Angels are situated throughout space, which as we know, does not have any sound, so angels communication via telepathic signals. This kinda works out for them because they can communicate to anything without any language barrier because these signals convey precise intention to whomever they adress. However, since they are situated in space, they’re all very distanced from one another and so messengers are stationed on places like moons or anything desolate enough for them to inhabit. They receive a signal either from an anchor or another messenger and ping it along to the nearest messenger on the path to headquarters, or directly to headquarters, and this info is then passed along to the higher ups and processed into the hivemind.
The hivemind that stores all this information is actually comprised of two of the most high ranking angels, Eastward and Westward. (they don’t really have names but some of the others started referring to them as some equivalent of that (originally it came from some thing that they were like god’s right and left hand men and then they just morphed into that)) They’re both basically two halves of the same whole, and can split up if extremely necessary, but they perform much less than spectacular without the other one. (which is still pretty high performing, but the standard for the most intelligent beings in the universe is very high) They function as essentially one being, but they have two separate consciousnesses and are both equally aware of the presence of the other one. And as previously mentioned, they act as a kind of living archive for all the information that has existed and does exist. They’re alive in the most bare bones way possible though because they are somewhat conscious in the way that they are aware of their surroundings but they do not feel anything or have any kind of purpose besides serving their role. Not that they can be very sad about their existence though because they cannot physically become bored of something so monotonous nor feel the absence of feeling. They, along most of the higher up angels cannot grasp anything of the sort despite their vast expanse of knowledge.
There are probably a plethora of other roles, but these three play among some of the most important of the bunch.
