My (F25) partner (M35) won’t divorce his ex who he can’t stand

I (F25) have been with my partner (M35) for 1.5 years. He has 3 kids until 12 y.o from a previous relationship (F28) so we took our relationship slowly to be mindful of the kids. I met the kids after 3 months of he and I seeing each other daily, started sleeping over after another 2 months, and they moved in with me 9 months after I met the kids. We now live together and have discussed having kids together eventually.
He has been separated from his ex for over 2 years. She has the kids weekdays as she doesn’t work, and we have them weekends and weeknights with afterschool sports as he works a trade and it isn’t kindergarten/school-friendly hours.
I have recently learnt that they are not divorced, and I am really struggling with that.

He lied to you for a year and a half about what relationship you could have with him. Beyond anything else, that year and a half of lies would be a deal breaker for me. I hope it would be a deal breaker for most.
