Very true. I have a feeling they’re going to argue about that in the near future.
On the topic of red flags everyone is jumping Shasha, Gorya, Bambi and Prim yet no one is talking about how Praew is knowingly gunning for a woman fresh off a breakup who - to her knowledge - is bicurious at best.
Just finished Runaway the series and I must say the girls are putting the BLs to shame when it comes to horror. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, Runaway, to me, is straight up Thai horror (i.e scary and creepy as fuck).
I love it when the story impetus/mystery comes first and romance second and the psychological horror+moral dilemma of Runaway was also really cool. The backstory in this one had me rooting for one character only to want their destruction in the next second and back again. You know the saying Karma is a bitch? Yeah, well, only if you are were one in your past life.
In comparison, Khemjira and GBYFD are practically wholesome bedtime stories, full of pookies (whom I love) that can do no wrong and the audience is carefully guided through character and story development. And while I personally prefer the pacing in the BLs, the horror element of Runaway goes beyond jump scares and scary effects (although I really do appreciate the effort put into these for immersion reasons).
I love love LOVE the ending. It made the entire show for me and cemented its place as a genre piece.
Bloom into you explores love differently from other types of media and shows us that love can look different from how people say it looks and breaks our expectations on how love should look or feel like. The protagonist feels that she cannot love anyone but later figures out that love doesn’t just come like how they explain it in movies. She feels very excluded because of it and I think this is also partly because society expects people to feel romance and love in a certain way. I think that is the whole reason Yuu Koito even feels like she needs to fall in love because normally in media, romantic feelings are described as butterflies and such feelings which makes it confusing for people who are demisexual or people who do not connect that way with others. Then we also have Nanami who is struggling with the idea that she needs to replace her sister to be loved and needs to be perfect like her. She even likes Yuu, thinking Yuu will not like her back hence she wouldn’t like the fake version of her. Another character is Seiji Maki, he loves watching romances without actually wanting to be in one and aromantic and aroace people are barely ever represented and I think that this type of representation where love can mean many different things to people and that love doesn’t feel the same way for everyone is an important way of representation and Yuu Koito is the only protagonist ever I have been able to relate to unromantically.

Trying to read/watch more lesbian stuff. I realised I was more “male centered” i thought i was 🥲

The new Galette kickstarter just launched (03/2026) for volume 5 and it’s almost already fully funded.
“The yuri manga magazine Galette has published more than 37 volumes over the past 8 years in Japan. We will challenge Kickstarter to re-edit and translate special overseas editions so that people overseas can enjoy them.”
I’ve supported it from the start and I’m completely happy with my purchase each time (give or take the tariff situation). Milk Morinaga (one shots), Nekohariko22 (I want you to show it only to me), Izumi Kitta × Moto Momono (Liberty) are some of my faves but I usually like everything included.
They do have some back issues on a first come first serve as well as ebook back issue options if you want to catch up without dealing with physicals / shipping. The next best time to join is right now as they’ve got big plans for their English language yuri outreach.
I think it started with one person tweeting about intimacy in BL’s and it just completely flew off the rails.
One side talking about the lack of intimacy in BL’s and some thinking the sniff kiss is like a cop out for the actors actually kissing on the lips, and the other side acting like puritans saying if you want more kissing or intimacy in BL’s you should just go watch p*rn, which is just a very homophobic mindset.
It just became a whole thing but I thought I’d share about the sniff kiss, considering it’s in most bls/gls you’d think people would realize that it’s a cultural thing and not a “cop out” for kissing on the lips.
