A childhood friend came into the restaurant I work at. We went to each other’s ninth birthday parties. We braided each other’s hair. We played dolls on the playground and had a secret language. I was the only one who could tell her and her twin sister apart. I loved her and we gave each other candy on our birthdays. Now I don’t remember how I told the twins apart. I don’t even remember who she is. I haven’t talked to her since I was thirteen. I think I’m a better person now.

I don’t know it just kinda hit me that I can no longer tell the twins apart.

Thinking about Andrew and Neil going pro, Andrew obviously signing with a team the year before Neil. When it’s time for Neil to sign with a team (Is there an exy draft? Idk) he is offered spots on several teams.

He acts like he doesn’t really know which offer to take despite Kevin breathing down his fucking neck over which is the best team or the better contract etc etc but one of the reasons he’s stalling is bc he didn’t get an offer from Andrew’s team… (I also like the idea that as the OG foxes start leaving and spreading out, Neil realizes how lonely he has been his whole life)

During one of their phone conversations somehow this is brought up or Neil makes some sort of off handed comment about it. Neil is being offered contract with the some of the best exy teams in the pro league (except from Andrew’s team bc ofc he’s on one of the best teams hello??)

The next day, Andrew walks into his coach’s office or whoever makes hiring decisions I’m not going to pretend to know how this part of sports works, and tells them to “make and offer to Josten”.

His coach , obviously knowing they played at school together, is sitting there like “yeah I would definitely want him he’s the fastest kid in the game but he wouldn’t pick us/we can’t offer him XYZ/we hit our payroll cap, etc etc” and whatever empty excuses. And Andrew just stares at his coach and repeats “if you send Josten and offer, he will accept it” bc he knows Neil (again, let’s also pretend that Neil has not handled being the last OG fox left very well, and especially not having Andrew at this side anymore after 4 years) and then walks out of the office.

Andrew has literally never asked for anything or made any suggestions so this also stops higher ups in their tracks and they decide to take it seriously for whatever reason, even thought they know Neil is quite the player (also assuming Andrew and Neil’s relationship isn’t public knowledge) and they move some stuff around and make Neil and offer.

It’s accepted within 24hrs.

Whenever Neil is looking for some free entertainment his favorite thing to do is fuck with Aaron. Like he’ll start talking to him like he would to Andrew and then say “oh nevermind I thought you were Andrew”, knowing it wasn’t Andrew because Neil can tell them apart, all because it riles Aaron up. Or Aaron will be venting to like Nicky about how hard some of his classes are and Neil will say “it can’t be that hard to be a doctor, maybe you’re just too dumb”. And they genuinely bicker like siblings sometimes. I’m talking the “stop touching me!!” “but I’m not touching you” while Neil has his hand right in Aaron’s face.

I don’t know who might need to hear this, but I wanted to share something beautiful I had the opportunity to witness.

In the chaos and uncertainty around us, there is still so much love and hope.

A few weeks ago, a local international student nervously approached me and asked if I could photograph his wedding reception. We barely know each other — so much so that the only real thing he knew about me was that a) I was a graphic designer and b) he had seen me hold a camera. And the only thing I knew about him was that he came from overseas to study engineering in the U.S.

He explained that his friend (and expected photographer) couldn’t make the trip. I sympathized and told him I had a similar situation with my wedding, but then he said something that made my stomach churn.

Almost all his family and friends overseas can’t make it. So can’t the bride’s, as she’s studying abroad as well. With the warmest smile, he says while he wishes his family could be there to celebrate, he’s so lucky to have great friends who are helping them put on a small reception.

I told him I had it covered and I wouldn’t accept payment. Photos like this will be invaluable over time, and I wanted to pay it forward as the volunteer photographer at my own wedding did.

The wedding was this weekend. I cried during it.

His fellow engineering students became wedding planners. A church opened its doors free of charge. Families of local students caught wind of the event and handled the food, learning cultural dishes from the bride and groom’s home countries. A mom group banded together to make table centerpieces. A recently married couple donated their leftover decorations. There were almost one hundred guests. Most of us didn’t know each other.

It was the most beautiful wedding I’ve ever seen. Not just because the bride and groom were so deeply in love with one another, but because strangers saw an opportunity to be kind. In a community where hate of anything ‘foreign’ seems to fester, a bunch of people saw two lovebirds separated from their families, stepped in, and said, “how can we celebrate love today?”

All I saw was love. Maybe we’re not as doomed as we think we are.

I only hate certain types of fic the same way I hate mosquitos and ticks. Like get these nasty little buggers away from me but also I respect their place in the ecosystem.

Me, spraying bug spray: blocked.

Listen and sometimes? To enjoy running through a beautiful field of grass and flowers (ao3) you have to tolerate the fact that bugs (fics you don’t like) are there and maybe you will even encounter one, but you can use bugspray (filtered tags) to reduce the likelihood of that. Because the alternative is not getting to experience the beautiful field of grass and flowers.

And some of my mutuals happen to be entomologists. Which is also cool.

Chase’s real name is probably the most well kept secret out of the main cast. And no, Buddy and Wave’s names don’t count.

I mean in the sense that, everyone knows that Buddy/Nox and Wave aren’t their real names, but Deacon and Prunella say his name is Chase with such confidence, that no one questions it. Everyone besides Prunella and Deacon think that Chase is legit on his birth certificate, when it’s actually Charles Everett Hollow. No one would guess this guy’s name is Charlie. Chase might as well be his birth name.

Deacon’s name was discovered real quick. So was Prunella’s. Serves them right for not going into a dangerous book quest without an alter ego to fall back on (/j). Everyone was suspicious of Buddy since day zero. I think Chase was the first person to ever genuinely ask for his real name, everyone else just gave him one (including Chase). And Wave is in a pretty tight spot, so he really can’t reveal his name rn.

But Wave and Buddy don’t take a second look at the fact that everyone else has a secret identity, but Chase. When in reality, his name is pretty much safe besides Buddy’s. He was using a stage name since day zero, and everyone just goes with it.

They don’t question it! He looks like a Chase, he acts like a Chase, he says that’s his name with all the confidence in the universe (because it still is)! But the day it’s revealed that his birth name is Charles/Charlie would be one of the best moments in this entire comic for all the right reasons. Because Buddy and Wave have believed that Chase was his birth name for a hot minute. They would be absolutely gobsmacked. Out of everybody, those two thought his name was the first to be discovered. But nope. Number one actor, Chase Hollow for the win— was able to fool hundreds with this stunt, and he doesn’t even know it.

He’s definitely happy that they think that’s his real name, tho. If he wants to make Chase happen, he’s gotta go all the way.

how insidious to make young girls buy hundreds of dollars worth of makeup, to force them to read up on its theory, to make them practice it for hours in order to escape mockery, to make them feel safe only when performing this hyper femininity, and then to even have the audacity to package it in feminist language so that they firmly believe it sets them free.

Kevin Day was literally psychologically and physically tortured but some people seem pretty content to ignore that when talking about him being an asshole. Like his past is so important to why he is the way he is. He’s really not an asshole for sport, it’s a trauma response. In a way he is trying to protect those around him. If you failed in the nest you were severely punished. You had to be the best to survive. So he’s trying to help his teammates be the best so they can survive. It’s not him being a bitch, it’s him being traumatized and trying to protect those he loves from that same torture.

Well, for starters, I’m really glad you decided to reach out, that’s the best way to learn how to write Black and brown characters (I would know, I’m mixed race but that doesn’t always give me a perfect understanding unfortunately)

Anyway, it’s awesome you’re getting into Duke! The more love he gets the better! So I’m going to start off with some things to avoid, then some things to prioritise and some finally, some comics you can read if you want to really get a feel for him as a character.

Also you weren’t offensive at all! Wanting to do justice to a Black character is always welcome here.

Things to Avoid:

Don’t have him say the N-word or any other racial slurs. I know this probably feels obvious but you’d be surprised at how many non-Black writers use writing Black characters as an excuse to use that word. It’s just best to avoid that word as much as possible, if you want to imply that he’s dealing with racism then maybe experiment with microagressions or reference something political (like facist groups, cops, bullies etc.) As these are just as if not more likely to crop up in a Black person/characters day to day life so you can portray it without hurting any communities.

Don’t call the We Are Robin movement a ‘gang’ - many people do this when trying to make Duke seem cool, but gang is a very weighted word to use in reference to a Black boy. It gives the image of 'thug’, violent, angry and other stereotypical things. Also in canon Duke is actually vehemently against gangs, that’s not him and he wouldn’t join something like that.

Don’t be afraid to use the word Black - I promise, it’s not offensive, it’s a skin colour and the majority of us see it that way (I don’t speak for all obviously, but just know that Black isn’t a slur) but I get feeling iffy about it so you can always just describe his skin as dark brown, deep brown and make a point of mentioning his curls/locs/braids if you want. Or even do both, give him a description and unapologetically emphasise that he’s Black - bc people will try and imagine him as anything but so being upfront will actually be appreciated.

Don’t use the word Blacks - yeah I know it sounds contradictory, but where Black is a description of a shade/tone, Blacks is a way to refer to Black people when you want to dehumanise them, so unless you’re writing a character (hopefully villain) who falls into that category it’s best to avoid that word.

For Duke specifically, don’t describe him or his family as poor, abusive, absent or violent - they weren’t like that at all in canon, not to say that Black characters can’t come from those backgrounds but Duke specifically did not, to change that would be playing into the stereotype that Black families are just “like that”

Don’t write him as a sidekick or best friend to one of the white characters - not to say Duke can’t be friends with or learn from them, but the Black sidekick and Black best friend trope are both well used ones in all kinds of media and it’s usually so the Black character can be a hype man, plot device or stepping stone for the white character rather than a person who’s complex and interesting in their own right. If you’re worried, I’d recommend looking up those tropes so you know exactly what to avoid (YouTube has some good video essays on the subject)

Don’t make Duke the “normal one” - Duke has always been outspoken, bold, brave and a tad unhinged the way most vigilantes are. Making him the normal one essentially cuts him off at the knees and takes away so much from him as a character.

Don’t make him passive or silent - Duke is a very active, bold and outspoken character, he doesn’t ever just sit by and let others handle stiff nor does he ever hold his tongue in any situation whether it’s family, friends, strangers, enemies or even cops, Duke will say something if he feels the need to (and he always does lmao) so avoid making him passive in any way.

Avoid the (white) saviour trope - White characters can have Duke’s back ofc or help him out the way he would them of the roles were reversed. But Duke is not a character who needs to be saved from himself, his past, his community or his people. So avoid having Bruce “save” Duke from “the hood” 🙄, Tim “save” Duke from a working class life, or Damian “save” Duke from school bullies - just anything like that. Also don’t stop Duke from standing up for himself, others can do it too, but Duke isn’t a pushover so while he may appreciate it, he won’t need it to be heard.

Don’t substitute race for personality - Duke is Black, but that’s a race, not a personality (you’d be mindblown at how many people I’ve had time explain this to). Don’t be afraid of Duke’s Blackness, but don’t make it his only defining trait either. Just like being bisexual isn’t Tim’s, being white isn’t Bruce’s and being Asian isn’t Cass’, he’s a person who is Black not a Black person.

Avoid anything to do with WFA - that comic is the bane of all Duke fans’ existence because they truly don’t care about him as anything other than the token Black character. To be frank, the writers are pretty racist in that “I don’t see colour” way, and it’s best just to ignore them when it comes to Duke or any other Black characters.

To Do (optional but hopefully helpful):

Lean into his love for his mom - Duke is.a total mama’s boy. He adores his mom and looks up to her. She’s the reason he patrols during the day for example and the reason he’s such an honest and truthful character. He loves her so much and it’s a great source when understanding his character and developing it on different ways depending on the fic.

Play up his feelings about community - Duke is a community centred person. He values community and wants to help it and see it thrive (another thing he gets from his mom). It’s such an important part of his character as it’s part of what drives him, where his values lie and what he fights for.

Enjoy his humour - Duke is genuinely a hilarious character. He roasts everyone and when he’s not doing that, he’s outright hating on them. This kid looked Black Lightning in they eye and basically told him to keep up or get lost. He called Lady Shiva hot when she was in earshot and in front of her daughter (Cass). He’s called Jason lame in so many creative ways that it puts Shakespeare to shame. Never be afraid to play with his humour (just avoid the “sassy” or “funny sidekick” trope, being funny is only a part of his character).

Explore his father issues - Duke was raised by a loving and consistent father (Doug) who was pretty much always there for him until he physically couldn’t be. But his biological father is an immortal villain who’s kind of an ass, and Duke only finds this out in his mid teens when his real dad (Doug) isn’t there to talk about it with. So exploring his feelings on that could be fun if that works for your story.

Look at his friendships - Duke has strong bonds with the kids from the WAR movement, particularly Riko and Izzy, but he’s pretty close with Dax and Dre too. Duke and Izzy have a budding romance built on the foundation of a strong friendship. Duke and Riko are close friends who are usually honest with one another above all. Duke and Dre are more antagonistic as they just rub each other the wrong way but they do fight side by side when it counts. Duke and Dax have a solid bond and are pretty consistent in showing up for one another.

Have fun with him - he’s a little hater, roasts everyone, is a total nerd, complete adrenaline junkie, lil mama’s boy, loyal, brave, unapologetically himself and too smart for his own good, there’s so much to just play around and have fun with.

Batfamily Relationships:

Duke and Cass - they have such a strong bond in the comics. They comfort one another, argue, banter and have each other’s backs. Duke sees Cass in a way no one else does and Cass believes in him in a way he really needs (especially at that time).

Duke and Bruce - these two I swear. So complicated but so much love is there. Bruce wants Duke to be his son, he loves that kid so much and does everything he can to bond with him. Duke loves and respects Bruce but not as a father, more like a friend or mentor. Uncle if you want to delude yourself like I do. Bruce sees the future, a better future for Gotham in Duke while Duke struggles to see himself that way and struggles to believe anyone does. They are perfect hurt/comfort, humor or angst material.

Duke and Damian - So these two are…complicated. On one hand, Damian was horrible to Duke and pretty tone deaf when it came to issues Duke deals with as a Black kid (Robin War) but Duke is also the one (other than Steph) who just sees Damian as a kid, nothing else. Just a kid with skills. And they can be adorable together when given the chance especially as Damian grows to respect Duke.

Duke and Dick - Dick sold Duke out to the cops and exploited his fear of heights while doing so and also smirked at him before he ditched him. Safe to say, Duke hates that guy. Or at least doesn’t like or trust him. But they have so many parallels and are very alike in many ways so there’s a lot of room to experiment with that.

Duke and Jace - these two are so funny together. Jace is essentially broody, a little emo and struggles with emotions and the bonds that come with them and Duke…roasts him for all of it. He calls his ass out without batting an eye and it’s amazing.

Duke and Steph - they don’t actually have much canon interaction to build off of but that’s what fanfic is for, right? So go wild with them and any other relationship you want to. But for a building point Duke and Steph do have self care days with Cass where they do normal kid stuff like play mini golf and things like that.

Duke and Tim - Duke has referred to Tim as his friend in canon and Tim has been shown to have respect for Duke and his team (the Outsiders) but they haven’t really had much canon interaction outside that so like me you’ll have to stretch the limits of logic and write enough fics to delude yourself into believing they’re besties 😭

Duke and Alfred - so….Alfred basically made Duke a child soldier and treated the lives of Duke and his friends as a mission/game. Duke doesn’t seem to hate Alfred in canon (though he definitely doesn’t revere him like the other kids do) but us Duke fans have a fun headcanon about Duke either hating Alfred or beefing with him constantly so do with that what you will.

Comics:

We Are Robin - peak Duke characterisation and the best way to get to know him.

Batman All-Star - brilliant to see how Duke loves his parents but also his bond with Bruce.

Batman and the Signal - an exploration of his powers, how he views his parents and how daytime patrol goes for him. Plus some more Bruce bonding.

Batman Outsiders 2019 - peak Cass and Duke bonding, Shiva lowkey adopting Duke, exploring Duke’s powers, Duke and Bruce breadcrumbs and Duke and Jefferson bonding.

DC’s Talent Showcase 2017 - Duke and Jason bonding, Duke roasting Jason and Duke being his brilliant, bold, hilarious self.

Death Metal Robin King - focuses on Duke’s powers, his feelings on community, a little bit of him and Bruce and we get a nice shot of Duke, Cass, Steph and Tim all fighting together.

DC’s The Power Company - Duke and Jace bonding, understanding Duke’s struggles as a Black hero, and Duke roasting our local emo.

Robin War - I wouldn’t really recommend Robin War as it lowkey character assassinates Duke, but if you want to see a few cute scenes he has with Damian for fluff/angst material or why he hates Dick for a fun dynamic to write then read it but do not trust anything Tom King has written about Duke or the WAR movement as a whole (that guy hates anything that isn’t the fab - white passing - five)

Extras:

Also if you want more help in writing Black characters in general - @creatingblackcharacters is an amazing source so read through their lessons as any subject you can think of, they’ve likely covered it.

Education and Truth: Indispensable Constructs

By Leah Lester, EdD

https://rss.com/podcasts/american-education-and-policy-and-dr-leah-lester

Introduction

Education and truth are under attack, as “reality” is a fleeting idea. This era has been called the post-truth era, and many are indifferent to whether they hear the truth. Some have called truth subjective and have determined that alternative facts are ways of viewing circumstances, particularly when seeking to advance an individual’s agenda. However, as truth and knowledge have been attacked in our universities and schools, which have historically been places to acquire knowledge, understanding, and the truth, educators are consequently also under attack. Learning is being diminished to the point where a disregard for truth has become blatant, and the qualifications for distributing that truth are also reduced. However, individuals who are thinkers and educated must not resign themselves to making change, and cannot simply turn a blind eye as if the attacks are not occurring. Today, I am calling out champions for change to fight the agenda and the schedule to turn America into a nation of lies, deceit, and insincerity.

I grew up in a time when education was valued and viewed as necessary for Americans to attain a certain standard of living. A formula for success was to do your best in school, go to college, and receive a degree to meet the standards for gainful employment. This formula seemed to work well for young people at that time. One’s career trajectory included steady gains in money or career, or even entrepreneurial adventures. The presumption of viable employment was part of the American dream. Education has been relevant in America and around the world for truth, as education depends on truth, because education lacking truth is mere ignorance. We who are educated in truth have the responsibility to preserve and uphold the truth.

Education’s Value is Global

Although some in America view education as inconsequential, for others, education has been merely about acquiring knowledge to gain power for the exploitation of the market and people. Although some people’s motivation for education is little concerned with making the world a better place or loving their neighbor, the truth is that the status of schooling worldwide has not diminished, as knowledge is still power, and education’s value worldwide remains strong.

Another thought concerning education’s value is that more education does not necessarily equal a better existence for mankind, either. Consider that, as a nation, we have some of the best institutions in the world, yet our country cannot balance the budget, address the climate crisis, control crime, or fix families in disrepair. Education is valuable to the world, but attaining it must not be for the sole purpose of making money or achieving power. We wake each day to a time in our nation when our healthcare may be inadequate due to high costs, and affordable living is far out of reach. Yet our young people are encouraged to attend school; the question of why must be considered by every young person who pursues higher education. Do you exist simply to make money, or to perpetuate a system of oppression? The value of education lies in its purpose. The purpose is to see one another as interconnected as we are educated to elevate this human experience.

Education’s Standards are Global

As a young teacher, I can remember learning to teach by applying a particular formula to demonstrate best practices, and then, ten years later, I was taught that what was true then is no longer true. What I learned was no longer helpful for that time. Truth at one time or situation may not be the truth in another circumstance. Truth may be seen as residing in an objectivity or what is known by students, teachers, and researchers. However, evidence-based truths are those that work best and are discoverable by those with objective eyes, applying curiosity, inquiry, and commitment as we seek understanding of the world we live in. Schools play the role of encouraging critical thinking, investigation, and discovery. We commit to the truth as we relate to it and reflect on it. Truth and education go hand in hand, but are effective at different times and places. Student knowledge is measured worldwide, and although student test scores vary from one nation to another, the value of education in America must be upheld; if the purpose is right, then a competitive standard cannot be the goal. Global skills are an integral part of the evolving complexities of the worldwide market.

As education unlocks elements of the human spirit, including empathy, compassion, and, yes, even love for the people of the world, only then will we see clearly the transformative spiritual nature of truth, and we will overflow with gratitude as we nurture and flourish globally. We must recognize that knowledge and truth are not for competition but for the benefit of mankind globally.

Education’s Fruits are Reliable

As educators, we must practice reflective practices to experience an inward quiet mind. Resonating within us is a desire to understand the differences within our diverse student population and to see the commonalities. We recognize that we must demonstrate virtues that we develop from applying equitable practices in our instruction. The virtues I once possessed have increased to where I empathize more, and am learning to speak with kindness more, and bear the burdens of others more, thereby bearing fruit that remains.

I have learned that my degrees, my position, and my journey are more of a spiritual connection to “Truth” than a vehicle for the consumption of money and power. I meet students of every kind, but what I have learned is that the biblical saying “how can they hear without a teacher” also proves effective in the classroom. Parents do the best they can, but educating children requires a joint effort involving parents and schools. The church, the school, and the home all play significant roles in village education. When children are provided with the necessary exposures, the likelihood of successful values and sensible behaviors will be the expected outcome and reliable fruit of their lives. One may have come through a traditional grooming structure, applying different values and standards to one’s own children, and then wonder why they do not convey the same values and wisdom as one has. The fruit of proven inputs cannot be ignored, as truth is a spiritual connection we must achieve if we are to provide equitable education for the children of the world. That educational fruit will not be what we have seen in some leaders, driven by power and oppression, but instead by love and peace.

Just as climbing a mountain is impossible without physical fitness, so too is it without specific gear and mental fortitude. Understanding navigation and survival in an emergency is necessary to succeed. My point is that in our lives, we need proper training to become strong adults so we can stand in difficult times. If children are to be ready to survive even to adulthood, adequate training for success is necessary. Knowing the tools needed and possessing the skills and nutrition needed will produce a reliable product. Education looks inward and looks outward to connect to real truth.

Education, the Indispensable Construct

Summary

Man exists for a purpose, and that purpose must not be for selfish consumption. Our education must also not be for selfish, perpetual oppressive purposes, but rather for learning how to make our relations with mankind more equitable and more fruitful. According to the Gospel of John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Man’s existence for the purpose of glorifying God must be considered as we seek knowledge and truth. God is love, and if we produce policies that do not promote love, we have moved away from what will make a more equitable world. If we see our brother in need, we are to respond with tangible help and not with vain words. Tax money spent educating our students must prove worthwhile and advantageous for human connection to education and truth.

Top 10 branches of science ranked by how bad it would suck to be killed by them (from best to worst)

  1. Physics - probably the nicest just on the grounds of how fast that’s gonna be. Like if you’re a goner before any of the other sciences can get to you, you probably don’t even have time to feel anything.
  2. Biology - the most standard default way of dying. Most of the time it sucks but not badly enough to warrant you its own wikipedia page.
  3. Geology - one of the oldest OG classics. Rock hits Og. Og is gone.
  4. Psychology - slow tigers are chasing you.
  5. Zoology - fast tigers are chasing you.
  6. Sociology - idk me and the rest of the angry mob agree that you had it coming.
  7. Chemistry - this is a hard one to place because there’s a lot of variation. But anyhow you’re getting undone on a cellular level.
  8. Mathematics - how the fuck did you even do that.
  9. Cosmology - why the fuck did you even do that?
  10. Theology - what the fuck did you even do?

I came up with this three-way table to help me (and now you, if you want) to rate things out of 5 stars. I was thinking of books and films when I made it, but you can probably use it for other stuff.

A three by three table (excluding row and column headings).

The columns are labelled:
Nothing really wrong with it
A few things wrong with it
So many things wrong with it

The rows are labelled:
Lots of awesome things
A few awesome things
Nothing really awesome

The cells inside the table are labelled as follows:
Lots of awesome things/nothing really wrong with it: 5 stars
Lots of awesome things/a few things wrong with it: 4 stars (spicy)
Lots of awesome things/so many things wrong with it: 3 stars (spicy)
A few awesome things/nothing really wrong with it: 4 stars (bland)
A few awesome things/a few things wrong with it: 3 stars (mild)
A few awesome things/so many things wrong with it: 2 stars (spicy)
Nothing really awesome/nothing really wrong with it: 3 stars (bland)
Nothing really awesome/a few things wrong with it: 2 stars (bland)
Nothing really awesome/so many things wrong with it: 1 starALT

The idea is that you rate the thing on how much stuff you loved and how much stuff you hated, and those things weight against each other. There’s only one way to get 5 stars or 1 star, so those should end up as the rarest ratings, wtih 3 stars being the most common.

‘Spicy’ means that the thing inspires emotion, whether positive or negative, while 'bland’ means it doesn’t affect you much either way.

An example of a 3-star (spicy) - for me personally - would be the Twilight series, because there’s plenty of garbage in there but also some things that are like crack to me. I can’t think of an example of a 3 star (bland) because by nature they don’t stick in the mind.

(This also assumes giving 0 stars isn’t allowed. That’d throw it out of whack…)

I absolutely love this bc it’s so like the risk assessment matrix for hazards

I’m being so serious when I say that I just can’t vibe with headcanons and fanfictions that depict Dean as biphobic. Like sorry for thinking someone can be in the closet for reasons other than thinking it’s disgusting to love other men? It just feels weird and gross especially since the few times Dean reacts weird to being called gay in the show it was almost always specifically in reference to BEING GAY WITH HIS BROTHER

the-mpreg-guy the-mpreg-guy

I think you can look at early seasons Dean and go “ah yes this is a man who grew up before gay marriage was a thing and probably almost never saw queer people being queer in public. His wariness of it can be very easily connected to that, especially since the Winchesters spend times in a lot of places that would not have been openly accepting queer people.” There is a discomfort that comes with that, even after queer rights started being placed.

While I’m not going to be the person to dissect it, I think there’s a ton of analysis to be written about early seasons Dean and his relationship with masculinity and sexuality, and how it evolves in later seasons. I just don’t think it’s ever as cut and dry as “Dean has internalized homophobia and never knew he was in love with Cas” when in the actual text of the show, Dean is THE character in TFW who is actually the most in touch with his emotions and how he’s feeling.

From Starvation to Displacement💔🍉🇵🇸

Khan Younis: A City of Displacement and Hunger🇵🇸🍉

Khan Younis… a city overwhelmed by displacement, suffocating under the weight of tents and silent screams.Families fleeing from one danger into another, with nothing but broken dreams and borrowed blankets.

Children are starving. Mothers spend the day searching for crumbs. Fathers are shadows of themselves, carrying pain they can’t express. No clean water. No food. No medicine.

This is not a page from history — this is now. In Khan Younis. In the dust and mud, among torn tents and empty pots.

Hunger is the only language left. The cries are loud, even if the world has stopped listening.

Please, don’t turn away. Every share, every donation can help.
