The Small Book My Sister Sent That Shaped My Life

Book Cover

Just the other day I was browsing online when suddenly—almost out of nowhere—I saw a book that instantly took me back many years.

Twenty-six years ago, when I first moved to the United States for school, everything was new. I was excited, but like many students starting out in a new country, resources were limited. My elder sister was incredibly proud of me. She believed in my…

How to Survive Daylight Saving Time: Start Early (2026)

Daylight saving time is coming, and it’s my least favorite version of the dreaded time change.
Losing an hour ruins the sleep of everyone in my household. It was one thing when it was just a pair of irritated adults, but now we have a 3-year-old who doesn’t understand what daylight saving is or why he should go to bed earlier than he did the night before. Sure, we’re all going to love the…

Wake up in the dark — daylight saving time almost here

Daylight Saving Time: Wake Up in the Dark — The Annual Time Change Is Almost Here
Introduction
Daylight Saving Time (DST) is once again approaching, bringing with it the familiar ritual of “springing forward” by setting our clocks ahead by one hour. This annual adjustment promises longer evenings filled with sunlight but also means waking up in darkness for several weeks. As we prepare for this…

A dollar saved is more than a dollar earned. After taxes, you keep about 70 cents of every dollar earned. But every dollar saved is a full dollar. Cutting expenses is the fastest raise you’ll ever give yourself.

Doing weird percentage math in my head for mhas quirkless population, cause it’s 80 at the beginning of the story and it grows with every generation. So it’s less common with older generations, which makes it feasible to swing my idea that i want to implement for my story where Skeptic is the first of his family to get a quirk and them be real unhappy about their little freak son

Mommy, I’m 8 weeks old now! 💕 I’m the size of a raspberry, around 14 millimeters long! My arms and legs are moving now… and I got tiny webbed fingers and toes! My taste buds are forming, one day I’ll know your cooking. 🥹

Let’s talk about cash flow. There are only two ways of fixing a cash-flow problem. The first is to make more money. The second is to spend less money. The first depends upon your abilities, your education, and your current economic environment and/or stage of life. The second relies more upon your choices.

We in Western society have been taught, literally groomed by businesses and government, to spend, spend, and spend. It’s good for the economy is what they say. But is it good for us as individuals? It is certainly much better for us to have savings, to plan for retirement when we will probably have less cash than we do now, to have an emergency slush fund. It increases our sense of security and well-being to not have to constantly worry about whether we can make the rent or pay that bill.

What is the answer? It is not complex. It is so simple that even the old timers of long ago knew it. Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do Without. That’s it. That is the solution. Get what you need, take good care of it, get a roommate to share costs, and make the above phrase part of your life. Find happiness and contentment in what you already have. Purposely enjoy what you already have. Eat every bite of what you’ve bought. Repair, reuse, repurpose, and resist the urge to spend, spend, spend. I am 61 and it’s been working for me for years.

Saving without vision is just hoarding. Anchor your money to a why, or it becomes meaningless numbers.
