Alberto Radius - Nel ghetto

Manca l'aria

Manca un grido, manca un Dio

Sulla strada solo io

La miseria

Dei cervelli del fair-play

Mi vorrebbe come lei

E no, io non ci sto

E no, io non ci sto

Lasciatemi nel ghetto ancora un po’

Blessed today I see…

I think the hardest thing for me is deciding WHICH OC. I might do a couple since I’m evil and greed.

RADIUS

This is gonna be the boss my party fights in the next arc of my campaign. I need to develop him more.

1. He’s one of the first Forged Family members, joining back during the Hundred Wars.

2. Early on in life he showed amazing physical prowess and potential which caught the eye of the Efreeti Eternal.

3. Radius is an insane trickster. Though he is easily powerful enough to beat most in a fight, he prefers games or tricks instead.

4. The Efreeti Eternal’s original gladiator tournaments and games had to be altered to accommodate Radius. He was so hard to even try to beat, the Efreeti Eternal changed the rules to allow teams to compete. The only way to even have a semblance of fairness.

5. He fights better drunk. Way of the drunkard master monk, mayhaps?

MENARCHE

My girl needs more love for real. Poor baby.

1. She looks alarmingly like her older sister Sella Turcica. This leads to many a misunderstanding, even if her sister has four arms when she only has two.

2. Menarche watched Platysma become a lich due to Sella Turcica’s manipulations. This caused her to go into exile, blaming herself for not seeing the signs sooner and helping save Platysma.

3. Menarche raised Gracilis and Sartorius because she realized she truly was alone, and that’s a terrible feeling. Gracilis betraying them and promising to hunt them down until death only made her believe she was bad luck.

4. Though she is an archfey with ninth level casting, most of her spells are utility or support based. Very few deal damage, mostly because she tries very hard to be a pacifist.

5. She created a grove for her and Sartorius to go back to, in case they ever got separated or lost.

BASILAR

One of my players’ favorite npcs in the entire campaign so far.

1. Though he appears aloof and inconsiderate, he actually cares a lot about Azygos and Glomerulus. Everyone else though is chopped liver.

2. Instablam famous. Posts many bleels.

3. The only reason Fulcrum lived and had to be killed later was Basilar hesitated to kill his old lord. However, it worked in his favor to test the party’s willingness to kill.

4. Basilar was manipulated by Platysma into harboring hate for the Forged Family and the status quo, leading him to send the party on the missions to kill Gastrocnemius and Pronator.

5. Basilar once worked with the devil Beriberi, cursing her to become a stolen blade. It’s very hypocritical he abandoned her after this since his views on stolen blades is that the entire concept is stupid and corrupt, but he saw Beriberi as expendable.

My babies… love yapping about them… People should send me more asks about my beautiful ocs… yes… do it…

Jared Corbo and the Mutant Metaphor for Disability

There are a lot of ways to read the Mutant Struggles for equality. Many popular interpretations boil down to civil rights issues, gender equality, the LBGTQ+ community, etc. etc…

These are all valid readings of the texts, however one of my favorite readings of the X-Men is that of mutants as a metaphor of disability.

There’s a lot of mutants whose powers function as a disability, Cyclops’s glasses acting as an aid to prevent his laser beams from killing someone. Rogue being unable to touch people without hurting them. Kara Kilgrave’s powers making her skin purple.

There are also lots of canonically disabled mutants, Professor X being a wheelchair user. Magneto, Aurora, and Namor all being written at least in one point of their histories as having mental health disorders. Scott, once again, his erratic powers manifesting from a head injury he acquired as a child.

However there is one mutant character who I think showcases the mutation as disability rather well and that is Radius a.k.a. Jared Corbo.

Who is this guy? Many of you may be asking.

Jared Corbo is a mutant that once was a member of Alpha Flight. He and his half brother, Adrian, were raised in the Canadian organization Hull House and later drafted into Alpha Flight, @severalmoremutants gives a much better explanation of the series in her post here.

The only thing you really need to know about him in regards to this post is that Adrian has a force field that surrounds his entire body. He cannot turn it off no matter what.

Due to the forcefield’s permeance Jared cannot do basic things that most people can. This includes eating, in order to consume the nutrients to keep him alive Jared has to wear a mask that converts his meals into an energy that can surpass his forcefield, meaning he can’t even taste the food he’s eating.

Jared’s forcefield also prevents him from being able to touch or be touched by others. Making most forms of human connection and intimacy impossible for him to access.

Jared’s faces a lot of issues that many people with disabilities face on the daily. Including keeping his access to his aid. Without the mask it’s impossible for Jared to eat. The mask was most likely specially made for him by Department H, meaning if Jared ever tried to quit Alpha Flight it’s likely the Department would try to keep the mask as leverage, putting Jared’s life at risk.

(The sad part of that being it wouldn’t be the the worst thing Department H has ever done.)

So Jared has to stay.

This can be read as similar to disabled people having to work in dangerous, hostile, or under paying jobs or having to stay with unsafe family members in order to keep their health insurance or disability benefits.

There’s no mention of what happens to Jared after Alpha Flight vol 2. He’s likely one of the many mutants who lost their powers after M-Day and it’s kind of a shame that we never get to see what the loss of his powers means for him as a character or how he feels if his forcefield is ever regained.

It’s unlikely that we ever will. It’s unlikely that Marvel will ever bring him back or if they do they’ll probably claim that in the decades he was absent from print he learned to control his forcefield.

TL;DR, Marvel bring Alpha Flight back you cowards

The right way to Measure the Earth’s Radius With Legos

Greater than 2,000 years in the past, just about each educated human knew the Earth was spherical. There are some fairly apparent clues, in spite of everything. Should you journey south, you see stars and constellations you’ve by no means seen earlier than (as a result of they’re blocked by Earth’s curvature). When a ship comes into port, you see the highest of it earlier than the underside (as a…

Artist Studio Day 2

On Tuesday morning I was stuck trying to figure out how to go about painting the vision I had in my head.

I had previously looked up Eoin’s paintings on Monday and saw that he had some paintings similar to my idea.

Bullet by Eoin McCormack @eoinmclsad

Done by Eoin.

He did a really quick painting with watered down paints to give me inspiration of how to execute my idea.

After the demonstration I did a quick painting with watered down paints. I like this better that the paintings I did on Monday as they are less strong and give more of the illusion of a blurry light.

RADIUS PROJECT!

Final design: After collecting the primary research I began to draw up some designs on post it notes and tried a repeat pattern for the first time.

I then went on to making a cobble stone pavement diorama out of cardboard, mdf board and plaster bandage.

I was recommended to make a stamp design using a block of wood and foam stickers which I then printed onto paper before printing it onto various fabrics as shown above.

RADUIS PROJECT!

Slide 1: In the radius sketchbook we focused on the first day to capture the aesthetic of the Locke bar. I tried to do some life drawing studies as well as typography. For the rest of the week we decided to broaden our radius and focused on Denmark St, William St and Henry St.

Slide 2,3,4: We went as a group and collected a lot of primary research. I felt that there were some great patterns and shapes on buildings, the ground and even on metal poles. I then had the idea to create a repeat pattern tile based off the primary research we had collected.

What I presented for the radius project. I was happy with the work I produced over the week or so but if I had more time/went back to add on to it. I would like to experiment with lighting and photography and also delve into creating a 3D piece. I would also like to expand on the theme I had and see where that could take me.

Radius project, peer group 2

Pt. 2

Some of us then decided to look at colours that represent the nightlife in the area while others in the group continued exploring texture and the photo of the gate outside the milk market.

We thought neon bright colours would work well and tried the riso printer, printing some of our observational drawing in bright colours. We each worked on various drawing, ranging from posters to line drawings and experimented with layering some of our texture drawings on top in other colours.

While drawing a church, I experimented with printing in a colour and adding pops of another. I was even prompted to try make a stop motion video of a moving sky behind my drawing.

The two focus’ of the group were brought together when we incorporated a 3D replica of the milk market gate, inspired by the original photo.

We chose to place our various brightly coloured prints in-between the gaps of the gate, symbolising the culture and vibrancy pouring out of limerick and keeping our original radius central (the milk market). I think the gates dark textured material contrasted our bright prints well.

Overall the whole group was satisfied that we managed to incorporate our radius in a literal and symbolic sense, while getting the opportunity to experiment with new materials and technology such as the riso printer and stop motion.

Radius project 2025 - peer group 2.

Pt.1

To begin our project, our group brainstormed possible lenses could look at our chosen radius through. We decided to explore the idea of culture in Limerick city and subsequently chose a place we felt reflected that; the milk market as the center point, as well as its surrounding streets of nightclubs, pubs and chippers. We then went there and to gather primary research through photographs and objects.

On the first day we decided to explore some of the interesting textures we noticed.

I found sticking things on the wall created a great visual advantage, and helped lead us to our next conclusion…

We decided to go with large scale cardboard letters and like the wall art, we each took different sections and covered them with our art.

I partially loved painting on such irregular shapes and at such large scale. I also loved exploring different art styles all over the piece. These are pictures of the finished piece and a painting I done of a shark which was really fun to do on the piece. Also a picture of me beside a letter to show scale!!

Our first big piece outside of our sketchbooks was this large sheet of paper where we each took a section to work on almost like the walls where you would see many different artists worked together on! This really helped us explore 2D work and decide whether we wanted to go 3D for our final piece. It was also great working on a large scale like this that I usually don’t do.

For my groups radius project, we were really interested in the graffiti and street art all throughout limerick! We mainly focused on the area of Arthur’s quay and park. As we were out looking at the artwork we watched as construction workers were tearing down some art. This made us wondering what is considered good art?

We decided we wanted to work on the idea of graffiti and how some murals or street art are considered beautiful while others are seen as vandalism. I also loved looking at the different places and walls where multiple artists worked together to create something, whether it was art layered on top of each other or two pieces that just so happen to be on the same wall, it was really interesting to see the mix of styles so close together!

Radius Project

For me and my groups radius project, we focused on graffiti (both the vandalism type and the artwork type) and transformed it into a 3D piece. While searching for graffiti around the city, we saw the artwork being destroyed and taken down which made us question: what is considered “good” graffiti and why are other graffiti artworks covered up or hidden? From observing this, we decided to combine both types of graffiti into one piece to show that when different types and styles of graffiti are combined, they are able to make a beautiful piece of art and shouldn’t be covered up and destroyed. - I really enjoyed working on this piece because i’ve never worked in such a large scale before and I rarely choose to make 3D art. I’ve learned so much from seeing how everyone in my group works differently, from their pace to their own individual style.

I had then the idea of collecting any red foliage from St.John’s and mimic blood/bleeding from a celtic knot; relating to my idea again, of regardless of where one is from, we are human and should value where we originate from and appreciate our lives as we have it.

I changed it from a celtic heart to a celtic cross, moreso to tie it back to our radius location and it being the church, chapel and graveyard of St.John’s.

To experiment more with different ways of producing work I made a short animation of me tightening the cross!
