what about the whimsical parade of eggs?

they are not as durable but much cuter!

they play small flutes and lutes

and beat little drums!

look at how their tiny banner flutters in the wind

through the flowers and clover leaves they march

with a spring in my step I shall surely join them soon!

‘Outlander’ Book Fans Are Outraged With Season 8 Premiere Storyline

The long-awaited final season of ‘Outlander’ is here, and it’s already been hit with complaints. Book fans are not happy with one particular storyline.Mar 9, 2026 11:33 AM EDT

Key Points

  • Season 8 introduces Faith Fraser surviving, angering book fans wanting faithfulness to source material.
  • Fans criticize storyline changes, including Claire’s character shift and perceived cheapening of Faith’s loss.
  • Concerns raised about unnecessary plot wasting limited episodes and unresolved book arcs.

Outlander fans have waited patiently for the final season of the series, with a lot of apprehension about one particular arc introduced at the very end of Outlander Season 7. This storyline immediately raised a red flag for book fans, especially those who want Diana Gabaldon’s story told just as it is in the books.

The end of Outlander Season 7 introduced the idea that Faith Fraser survived, despite being stillborn during the second season. The final season quickly picked up with that arc, making it clear that Claire (Caitríona Balfe)and Jamie (Sam Heughan) believe that Faith is still alive. They don’t know how or why, but they believe that she did survive and that Fanny is their biological granddaughter.

‘Outlander’ Book Fans Outrage At the Idea

Immediately, most book fans took to social media to share not just their disappointment but also their anger and outrage over the storyline change. During Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, Claire does briefly wonder if Fanny and Jane’s mother is the same Faith as her stillborn daughter, but she quickly rules that out.

It’s simply not possible. At least, in the minds of book fans. Considering Claire went into premature labor and the time period the story was set in, there wouldn’t have been the medical intervention needed for Faith to survive.

The only way for Faith to survive would have been for someone to lie about her being stillborn or through the use of magic. It opens a can of worms with Master Raymond and Mother Hildegarde. This turns these beloved additions into evil characters.

There are also complaints that the opening of Outlander Season 8 changed Claire’s character considerably. She became a murderer in her anger, as she stabbed the ship’s captain, something she wouldn’t have done due to taking the Hippocratic oath.

OakLab6636 shared on Reddit about how the change to Faith’s story “cheapened the significance of the loss of a child,” furthering the issues. Soft_Proof7452 agreed with the sentiment, sharing, “I really hope it’s a red herring. It cheapens the whole faith story in season two which in my opinion was the best episode of the entire series.”

A Waste of Time Considering the Book Storylines

On top of fans being outraged at what this means for characters already introduced, it also takes up time with a storyline that’s arguably unnecessary. There are only 10 episodes on Outlander Season 8, and that time is precious. Ilnd on Reddit stated, “Especially since we only have ten episodes to tie things up. Don’t be jumping the shark this late in the game.”

The final season is based on the ninth book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, by Diana Gabaldon. Numerous arcs from that book have already been started, including the reunion with Brianna and the family, the introduction of Captain Charles Cunningham and his mother, and the possible death of William’s cousin, Benjamin.

All this leads to the question of whether there is enough time. Let’s remember that Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone ends with multiple cliffhangers, so they need to be resolved for the show.

Outlander Season 8 now becomes convoluted with a storyline that book fans already made clear they didn’t want. It remains to be seen how much the Faith storyline takes over, as it does seem like it’s done with after the premiere, but it doesn’t take away from the anger of the book fans.

Views From The Potomac: The 501st is cool and all but always strikes me a little weird having cosplayers of an imperial empire walking in an Irish parade.

Whatever, we’re all living in an imperial empire anyway.
