This was a process on me attaching on the sleeve on my top by overlocking the arm hole before sewing it on by a 1 cm distance.I used the overlocker to finish this area off.

Step 6: Constructing the sleeve
For constructing the sleeve, I placed my front and back sleeves together and sewed the outer seam, right sides together, from the top middle notch all the way down to the bottom. I stitched the inner seam, below the arm hole, which was the last notch down, all the way to the bottom. After this, I overlocked both side seams, the top seam and bottom seam. Then stitched a 0.5cm hem (like the trousers) at the top and the bottom of the sleeve. Next, to make sure the sleeve wouldn’t fall off the shoulder, I added a 13cm piece of elastic to the top sleeve hem and sewed a straight stitch to secure it, stretching whilst I stitched along, making sure the outer sleeve seam is in the middle of stretched elastic when sewn.

Step 4: Sewing the trousers together
For the first part of stitching the trousers together, I sewed all the way down the inside leg seam and did the same with the other leg. Then, I overlocked these seams. To secure the crutch, I went back on the industrial lockstitch and folded one leg the right way round, the other inside out and set the right-side leg into the inside out leg and matched crutch notches up. I then sewed from the zip to the end with a one toe zipper foot, making sure not to sew over the zip’s teeth. I finished off with overlocking all the way around both the bottom of the trouser legs, folding up 0.5 cm and sewing a straight stitch all the way around.

Step 1: Constructing the Top
First, I placed my front and side fronts, right sides together, matching notches up and sewing a straight stitch 1cm from the edge for seam allowance (half a screw on industrial lockstitch for reference). Then, I overlocked each seam I had just sewn and the whole bottom of the front pieces with an industrial overlocker. Secondly, I did the same with the back and side backs, making sure to stitch each back and side back together and not sewing the two back pieces together. Moving on, I overlocked those seams, also overlocking the two open back seams and overlocking the entire bottom of both back pieces.
Dealing with stretchy knit fabric can be intimidating when you are only familiar with sewing non-stretchy woven fabric. This sewing tutorial is super easy and fool-proof due to exposed seams.
So, don’t be afraid and have fun making lettuce ruffle helming along the seams and hemline. Experience the joy as you design your own t-shirt made from socks!

Feels like I’ve been overlocking scrub edges for miles! Tbf it’s gonna be the only distance-covering activity I’ll be involved in for a while 😂 could really do with some new podcast series whilst I’m holed up stitching in the attic - recommendations please??

NB. All fabric is washed at 60°c before sewing, and then all scrubs are washed again at 60°c upon completion before being distributed 💙

Something I’ve always needed to know but never fully understood is threading up an overlocker; a skill i’ll be needing quite frequently through next year! Its something I’ve had to do regularly through all the projects and orders and means its one less question to ask! As we finished off the remainder of the doll project this week, there needed to be lots of colours at hand and meant there was plenty of thread colour matching!
