More name nerding out woop. Gotta say I appreciate other people getting into the nitty gritty w/ me on this monstrous length series.
[[MORE]]Omega I did know the meanings of given it was blatantly Greek and thus side-eye worthy. Echidna naming herself something that means “important” is a bit humorous, but she’s not exactly wrong.
It could also be Tappei cheekily stamping onto her the fact she’ll be a major antagonist later (and thus important) in a blatant way.
And speaking of blatant things, this “the last” thing for Omega could certainly come from the fact amongst the Witches she seems to have been the last to die. You are certainly correct about that.
However. Another way of looking this became readily apparent to me as I glimpse upon this. That being one could say Omega is “the last” as in she will be someone whom ends the world at some point and the sole remaining individual left.
Afterall, we know in the Witch’s Evaluation SS that Sekhmet was dead serious in her concern if Echidna would one day destroy the world if it lacked anything else interesting to offer the Greedy Lady.
Anyhow. Colette’s name being intertwined w/ French Stuff is interesting given Tappei did have some Mabeasts in A Heroic Tale from Zero using French naming. So the guy has used French stuff previously making this not particularly a full on deviation.
It is indeed incredibly weird though she has a connection to plausibly a Greek Goddess of Victory. Personally that & the whole “Victory of the People” thing she’s got going imo seems in reference to how Colette managed to rally the town in that trial Echidna underwent.
Palmyra having a city in Syria was not on my radar. How neat. Especially the tidbits on the Silk Road here. Having Palmyra get linked to desert stuff is definitely a bit odd though given the weirdness of her eyes being described how Subaru’s are and we know Satella is chillin’ in a desert and Subaru is blatantly connected to that women.
Moving on. The Shion & Lilac ones made me raise an eyebrow. Having “renewal” for Lilac is def a bit sus given how renewal in this series typically involves somebody doing some weird voodoo shit and coming back from the dead unnaturally.
I also think it’s clever how Shion’s name originates from Japanese given her clear otherworlder knowledge. That’s a fun little easter egg. What’s less fun is Lilac’s Arabic shtick because anything Arabic that crops up is usually sketch hence the shady name meaning.
Honestly not sure where Tappei will go w/ this renewed stuff for Lilac but it ain’t anything good I believe. Maybe she helps Echidna do something naughty given that women is amongst the foremost examples of renewal in this series.
