Pieces of broken U.S. military equipment and gear were scattered all around the clearing. The task force was about to enter the cave to explore its recesses when a 12-15 feet, red-headed, six-digit, double-toothed humanoid emerged and attacked the soldiers. The giant impaled a soilder with giant spear and proceeded to attack the rest of the squad. The reporter states that it took 30 seconds of continuous fire to down the giant. When the military came back to the cave, they saw the giant eating the soldier’s it killed.

Drake’s The Nephilim: Special Edition drops you straight into the life of Daniel Hunter Drake — a kid who thinks he’s ordinary until the universe taps him on the shoulder and says “actually, no.” What starts as a normal coming‑of‑age story quickly spirals into a millennia‑old conflict where angels, demons, and destiny all have their own plans for him. Suddenly Daniel isn’t just navigating school and crushes; he’s dodging divine forces and trying to figure out what it means to exist between them.
What I Loved
The premise is instantly gripping. A teen caught between God and the Devil? That’s the kind of high‑stakes setup that begs to be explored.
Daniel’s identity journey feels relatable, even with the supernatural chaos swirling around him.
The low key call outs about MCR and anime.
The pacing keeps you turning pages, especially as the mystery of who — and what — Daniel is starts to unravel.
The mythological angle adds weight without feeling like a lecture. It’s more “ancient secrets unfolding” than “textbook lore dump.”
What Didn’t Fully Land (for me at least)
Some emotional beats could hit harder with more time to breathe.
The worldbuilding is intriguing, but I found myself wanting a little more texture in certain scenes — especially with stakes this cosmic.
Overall
If you’re into YA fantasy, angel/demon mythology, or stories where an ordinary kid gets swept into something impossibly huge, this book scratches that itch. It’s fast, dramatic, and sets up a world that feels like it has much more to reveal. I’d call it a great pick for readers who love stories about identity, destiny, and the blurry line between good and evil.

Was reading what Josephus wrote about giant bones being on display before Jerusalem was destroyed. It makes me think of what went on in the old world. The Israelites clearly had to deal with giants in the Promised Land.
So how crazy would it really be to consider that angels could still fall today—and if they do, are they up to the same things they did back then?
Scripture tells us Satan goes before the throne day and night, accusing the saints. It’s not a stretch to think he’s corrupting more angels as well.
Look into Josephus, the Jewish historian born a short time after the crucifixion. Read what he recorded about the giants. Anyways, it’s worth a share.
