Lemonade Breakdown

Lyric breakdowns are not really my thing because everyone has their own interpretation and we’ll never really know what the intention was behind them but what the hell, lemonade lockdown still in full swing and I’m feeling insane

Verse 1:

First line is giving medicine ‘I had a few, got drunk on you and now I’m wasted’ I know we joked about finally getting Medicine (Louis Tomlinson’s version) but I think it’s happening. Second line I mean 'The way she’s making me lie’ how can I not make a larry connotation? Especially given that he was in CR with Zara, essentially lying to the public. 'Hung from her bracelet, her lucky charm if I like’ immediate thought was all those bracelets that Harry used to wear during the band and the way he always chooses an article to fixate on for a period of time like a lucky charm.

Fifth line 'Symptoms of coming to life’ for some reason was making me think of this line in Golden 'Take me back to the light’ as well as the discussions around Alive about homosexuality = sickness that have been had on here. 'No point in thinking it twice’ Louis has talked a lot about his self-doubts in regards to being an artist and his work but this line in combination with his repeated mentions of confidence and coming into his own with this album shows how far he’s come. 'The way I’m chasing the night’ ready to run vibes?

I already touched on the evolution of the usage of 'Home’ in Louis writing over the years because there does seem to be a shift between how he used it in his writing during the band and then in his solo work. The repeated notion in his solo works that he doesn’t want to go home especially when combined with the idea that Harry is his home is interesting. 'Am I losing control?’ no controOoOol! But also there’s something to be said here about this line and the difference in promo/his standing with the music industry right now given everything with bbc radio

I meeeean 'Sweet where you lay’? 'Taste on my tongue, I don’t wanna wash away the night before’? 'Sweet and sour, heart devour’? It’s no control babey. Also Louis has now described Harry as salt and vinegar crisps, sweet and sour and now so bitter so sweet. Harold get your man. Lemonade when your man is known by the fandom as 'fruit man’ and has references to lemons 👀 Of course there’s also the obvious 'when life gives you lemonade’ Louis has been dealt a crappy hand thus far in his solo career but he’s made it work for him so Lemonade being the album that kickstarts that era of recognition that he’s always deserved is fitting

'She got me waking at times that I’ve never seen’ I’ve got two things to say here. First, we know Harry is an early riser while Louis is not a morning person. Second, can I get a quick refresher of when the larry reel happened?

x Ah yes, that’s right 😌 7:26am BST, that’s a lil early for a non-morning night owl person I’d say

'Bright yellow spaceship’ honestly every time it makes me think of Yellow Submarine by the Beatles which is a little funny considering One Direction used to get compared to them relentlessly in the early days but lets look at some lyrics shall we for funsies as we know our boys love a nautical moment?

Huh. Interesting….. Lemme just…….

👀 well then……

Back to 'Make me start to believe’ again I think this is related to the journey Louis has been with his art and his self-doubts. 'Symptoms are stuck on repeat’ now Harry has an ongoing cure/antidote them in his writing and I do think we could also make another Alive reference here. 'No point in trying to leave’ can I make a waoyf link? We’ve speculated about whether or not the boys have over broken up relentlessly but waoyf is so domestic even when things are messy between them there’s no insinuation from Louis in the song that he won’t still take those stormy days aka 'No point in trying to leave’. 'She got me waking, it’s doing something to me’ cough cough

How many no control references can I make 🤔

Final verse:

Now this? This is making me crazy. Larries have been relentless called delusional from trying to 'prove’ Larry and often end up losing as a result so this feels like a choice especially as fandom is typically an 'escape’. But also! Louis has been trying to prove himself as a solo artist and it has been repeatedly remarked upon how his team has poorly handled his career even going as far as to suggest sabotage so it’s been interesting to see the difference in this promo cycle where he’s definitely winning

Anyway, I love the new song I’m sure I could dissect it another thousand ways but this is getting long
