Nulb is a haggard village where both lords and bandits alike ignore the crumbling mud brick homes of forlorn peasants.
Maybe it’s the dirt clouds wafting amongst the homes, but something weighs on this village. Memories of the past? Or fear of the impending future?

Okay, I know I am not done with the map of the Netherlands yet. But, I want to try an experiment on another map. So, I chose to create a map of Ireland (just the Republic part).
This map is very-very basic, as I just put the outline of the landmass, the border, and the cities. Um, by the way, for the last few weeks I’ve been trying to make the database of European cities so I can access it easily each time I want to make a map of a country - and the current focus is just European countries. For the outline of the Republic of Ireland, I downloaded it from this government agency called Tailte Éireann.
For now, I am just trying to experiment with fonts. So, the first… I found this font called Avenir. This is how the map looks like with this font.
Not sure if I like it or not. I mean it’s fine, I just kind of don’t like the label on “Dublin’, with bold and uppercase letters. I’ll try different other fonts.
(Update 16/3/26)
I tried with another font, Constantia. The label on ‘Dublin’ and the oceans look better, but for the rest… it’s meh. Especially the marker for other countries, like 'Northern Ireland’ for example, I like it on font Avenir better. Also on this one, I added other smaller cities as well.
The dark and oppressive tunnel below the asteroid’s surface gives way to a chamber crafted of metal and concrete. A wide sliding door stands in the far wall, rust dappling its edges like rotten lace. A single light above the doorway flickers weakly.
This underground bunker once was home to a powerful Devourer cult that had its fingers in many sinister schemes. Now it is almost entirely deserted.
The entire base is constructed inside an old underground mining tunnel; the cultists lined the unworked stone walls of the tunnel with reinforced concrete supported with steel beams.

Do you have scrapes of a fantasy world you never finished? Well done I have the solution for you!!
We’re looking for map makers, creature creators, bug enthusiasts, historians, and everything in between to help build the world of column!! (Name is a placeholder)
Mapmaking is something that I yearned to do for ages. But after I acquired the skills to do it, I do other useless things like doomscrolling instead. Well, that doesn’t mean I haven’t tried to do it. I actually made several maps and gives a bit of efforts to decorate it, but yeah, it is only for practice reports at university. I actually attempted to make the city map of Stavanger (Norway), but my plans were too complicated, as I wanted to go extra. Because I didn’t know the steps and got stuck at planning, I never made it.
However, this time, I’m trying again to make one, but starting out from basics stuff. Inspired by several simple map of countries, as pictured on image number 1. I decided that I would just simply add basic features: coastline, international border, rivers, and some major cities. Then, I sketched out the map, using my phone, tracing the coastlines, borders, and rivers, from Google Maps - as pictured on image number 2.
ALTALT
I booted up QGIS program, downloaded several shapefiles for Netherlands administrative boundary from official Statistical Bureau of the Netherlands, and also the rivers from this site called HYDRORivers. For cities, I just manually pinpointed it, it isn’t that hard. Finally, I did it. I created my first map, the first prototype map of the Netherlands. Pictured below.
Obviously, it is not done yet. There are still more to come. I want to add labels for other countries like Belgium and Germany. I also haven’t added labels for North Sea, and several rivers like Vechte and Ems. Not to mention, I may add another features by different types of map, like infrastructure (roads, railroads, airports, ports), elevation, provinces map, etc. But so far, I am satisfied with my progress :)))
Ink and quill map making is so much fun and it upsets me how prohibitively expensive it is. I tried making one and got around halfway through before I realized the $50 or so dollars I had already spent on ink and paper and a pen was out and I would need to spend more to finish it. I’d consider next time I run a fantasy game with a 2 dimensional map (wildspace), but for anything but a main map for an exploration heavy game, it’s way too much
wahoo! This map series took forever to finish, but we’re done! Finally, knowing how to draw mountains and trees in this style makes life a lot easier. This is my 5e homebrew world, or at least one of the continents known as Voldera, these maps are
Sword Coast, Faerûn, Forgotten Realms, World Anvil Map: The Sword Coast lies in the northwest region of Faerûn, running along the Sea of Swords. Includes travel distances between major points of interest.
A significantly odder world than its neighbor Ulavana, by most definitions. Life on Rizona is powered by powerful winds emerging and receding into the large dark lake that sits almost directly on the planet’s equator.

The origin of these winds is the cause of much scientific debate, however, what is known and capitalized on is that material these winds hit directly become embedded with a strange crystalline substance that gives them incredible durability.
This material is the backbone of Rizona’s economy, and what makes it a major power of the Mephel-Still system. When smelted down and reforged, this substance acts as an incredibly strong, flexible metallic material. However, it corrodes extremely quickly in atmospheres other than Rizona’s own, meaning it must be alloyed before being transported offworld.
There are many names for this substance, ranging from mystical to scientific, but the most common name is Rizin.
Rizona hosts many large and powerful nations, the most dangerous of which are the western powers of Reikiso and Loreina. The Reiki people are teetering on the verge of an industrial revolution through applied use of Rizin gained from the equatorial lake, near which they control a large portion of wind farms.
Loreina, on the other hand, is a much older force, dating back hundreds of years, nearly to the expulsion. Although it is now in decline, with much rural farmland that can’t compete with Reikiso’s factories, it does still maintain a large amount of wind farms.
The other regions of the planet are in varying stages of growth, decline, and technology, but the existence of a substance such as Rizin on this world makes it at least a possible danger to our interests, and so it should be carefully watched.
I use azgaar’s fantasy map generator! It’s super great for a bunch of stuff and it can run in most browsers (I think. but it can run on google chrome on a random chromebook so can probably run anywhere). but yeah there’s options to make states, cultures, religions, biomes, heightmaps, soooo much stuff. there’s a little bit of a learning curve but I definitely recommend checking it out.
what I normally do is randomize it until I get some basic shapes I like, then edit those a bit and make the rest from scratch.
I’ll probably go post one or two of the more recent ones I’ve made soon
Baldur’s Gate Neighbourhoods, World Anvil: A bustling, fortified city perched on the edge of the Chionthar River, serving as a gateway to trade, opportunity, and intrigue along the Sword Coast. Markers include Neighbourhoods, stores, temples and various other points of interest with full descriptions.
Next month I’ll be running a Backerkit campaign for Magestar! This fantasy rpg sees players assume the roles of explorers who have been magically empowered by the titular, apocalypse-causing Magestar.
The Temple of Elemental Evil: Fire Elemental Node [69x90][ART]
Scene Flavor:
The dreaded Fire Pits are humid and hot. The areas are lit by the occasional pits of burning embers and leaping flames.
Adventurers appear in the central room, faced with a choice of eight stone doors. The doors in the Fire Node are large stone constructions with brass fittings and are edged by ample cracks which allow fire creatures to seep through.
The rooms and corridors, hewn from the surrounding rock, are well-made, perhaps by earth elementals or magic. Many surfaces are scorched and scratched, but few are chipped.
