Sometimes I still fall into the headspace that eating healthy means it needs to be pretty, or accepting when people say it needs to be expensive or time-consuming.

And then, I make a lunch like this in 10 minutes between meetings – 4 oz of 90% lean ground beef, a cup of minute rice, a cup of frozen peas, an egg, and some powdered seasoning. 37g protein, 19g fat, 50g carbs, 3g fiber

It’s not pretty, but it hits all the major points, tastes good, comes together fast, and makes a big portion for what amounts to $3.52 worth of ingredients based on my local current prices. It’s fun to make #aesthetic avocado toasts and stuff, but cheap and ugly food can still be healthy and get the job done.

Really settling into this new routine and my strength programming, finding my groove. One of the nice things is, I’m not someone who sweats a lot really. I get pretty sweaty on run days, but on strength days I really don’t break a sweat, so I can take a little extra time and not worry about showering right after every time.

Partner has been vibing with the Sola bagels, but I was getting tired of the everything flavor, so we’re trying blueberry this week. They’re alright, but next time I might put a little jam on them or try using PBfit instead of cream cheese. This is the Green Mountain plain Greek cream cheese, which has more protein than the Philadelphia stuff, but… it’s a pretty negligible difference.

For meal prep last night I made chorizo and chickpea stew, which turned out super tasty. I added about 3 oz of fresh spinach at the end of the cook time for some extra veg. Later today I’m going to put together some egg bites for breakfasts and also start seeds for my garden this Spring.

I’m sitting here doing my grocery shopping online and the app suggested I might like the new cookie dough protein balls…. yeah! I might. So I go check them out to see if I should add them to my cart. They are 36g of carbs and 8g of protein.

💩

Why (besides obvious marketing purposes) are these called protein balls??? I don’t do anything under 24g of protein (16g if which are sugar) and would never have anything with that much sugar.

Sure, most folks could enjoy these… as cookies! There nothing healthy or impressive about those macros though.

While I was there, I noticed a few other optics too. Also pretty consistent in numbers with one only having 4g of protein. How are we calling that a protein anything??? It’s like words mean nothing anymore.

🤬

“why is everyone obsessed with eating protein with every meal now”

  1. not “everyone” is obsessed with eating protein “now”, we’re just getting older and it’s important to analyze and change our diets as we age.
  2. protein and fats are so so good for us! they’re fuel for long term! they help build muscle! meanwhile, carbs are fuel for the short term! carbs are what your brain uses to function! macros are important! and they’re all so yummy too!
  3. be honest, do you like how you feel in your body? if you don’t, you should perhaps consider balancing your macros better. and go see your PCP. we’re in our 30s. be so serious.
  4. you should’ve been having protein with every meal throughout your whole life. what are you even talking about.

I Tried a Gaming Mouse at Work & Now I’m Hooked?

When I first unboxed my gaming mouse, I was initially thinking about achieving high scores and racking up kills.
