On January 15, 2001, Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger launched Wikipedia. Wikipedia soon overtake what Nupedia have achieved in a few months after it launched.
By the end of the first year, Wikipedia contained more than 20000 articles in 18 languages that have been contributed by volunteers worldwide. In the first few years of Wikipedia, it has been criticize and had a few problems. Among them were vandalism and its accuracy.
Since then, The New York Times on the 9 February 2014 had reported that Wikipedia is ranked fifth globally among all websites stating, “With 18 billion page views and 500 million unique visitor a month. According to the ratings firm comScore, Wikipedia trails just Yahoo, Facebook, Microsoft and Google, the largest with 1.2 billion unique visitors. The creation of the Wikipedia has been a success and the website has helped many people around the world.
