I love those aesthetic escapism videos on YT, where it’s: “You’ve been transported to a magical realm” *shows 40 pictures in 10 seconds of woods, or elves, or daggers, or something else fantasy coded* “who will you become here?”
And it’s such a fun question to think about, but unfortunately, my answer always, always, ALWAYS ends up being: I’ll do science!

First laughs, loses his breath, and then wheezes pitifully for a moment. The dark stains creep across his cheek and bleed into the corner of his mouth as he says, “Go on.”
Second is still perfectly steady, the gun held just above First’s ear. His grip doesn’t loosen or tighten. Second blinks once. He looks First in the eye like he’s looking through him.
“Kichiro had tumors too. I carried her everywhere on her last day,” Second says, voice clear. “So she knew she was loved.”
First’s smug expression falls into blankness. Then, fear.

What a blessing it’d be to buy you a birthday cake
I’d make silent uncontrollable wishes while I place each candle
an act of devotion, almost religious, while I push away fears I can’t handle
I’ll sing happy birthday like a prayer, silently pleading to be able to do it again next year,
Your birthday is my favorite day
For it is the only time that you cannot deny all the affection and a spotlight to shine

You’d give me the best slice, and I’d make sure you got all the rest
