The funeral of Finarfin Noldor takes place on a hot summer morning. They’d had to delay the burial a few days as the storm had left the ground too soggy to dig a proper grave. Now putting Finarfin in the ground he’d carefully tended for so many years was a matter of urgency lest the body attract pests or spread disease.

There had been no time to build a proper coffin, so they lower him into the ground wrapped only in some old bedding. Celeborn insisted on tending to the body himself, thinking to spare Galadriel the sight of her father’s mangled corpse. But of course, she knows what lies beneath the shroud, knows the unnatural angles Finarfin’s joints bend toward now, knows the deep gashes carved into the back of his skull.

It’s a pitiful affair, attended only by Father Celeborn, Halbrand, and the surviving Noldors. Though Aegnor remains bedridden, barely fighting back a fever that’s been threatening to take hold since that first night the preacher came to stay. Not even Amarië or her family can be bothered to attend. But what more could their friends and neighbors possibly say at this point? The Noldors have already mourned the loss of two brothers, two sons, since spring. There are no words that could possibly bring comfort now.

Ended up remembering Masters of the Universe (1987) the other day, and now picturing some of the (surprisingly fun) lines from that movie being used in a haladriel context, with a bit of tweaking and fusing:

SAURON: Where are they? Where are your friends now? Tell me about the loneliness of good, Galadriel. Is it equal to the loneliness of evil?

Another example, with cheesy goodness:

SAURON: I ache to drive your cursed face from my memories forever…enough talk. Let this be our final battle.

In conclusion: haladriel works with everything, and cheesy stuff is fun.

I didn’t expect this to happen but I’m currently writing an AU ending fic for the new “Wuthering Heights” film!!! 😀 Little hint that it comes from the thing Heathcliff suggested, which I’m surprised I never thought about before and I’m not sure if others have written fics about this. I’ve loved this story since I saw Tom’s miniseries and then read the book, but this will be my first fic for it. But also it’s very similar to my Haladriel fics for those that have read them (and a few of my other AU fix it fics in other fandoms), so it feels a bit full circle as Cathy/Heathcliff have always been a inspiration for Haladriel fics, but now they’re also part inspiration for a fic for the former.

This is a fic I thought I would never actually finish. I recognise that it’s quite niche (it’s a Modern AU heavily influenced by another book—and films and TV show—and idk, there’s just a little less love for Annatar in this ship for some reason) but in November I felt like such a failure I was close to permanently deleting it!

So I’m quite proud I actually managed to finish another WIP. And I thought I’d link it here as well in case there’s some previous readers hanging around who believed I’d abandoned it.
