haladriel moments: 103/∞

I like the idea that if Sauron had truly wanted to manipulate Galadriel, he would have turned into Halbrand earlier and remained him till the end of the fight. He was clearly frustrated when she rejected their bond and dismissed his feelings as insincere. That’s why he chose to take her up on her own words and prove just how wrong she was.

She’s on the verge of tears because deep down she knows he’s right. She knows that she loves him, and she hates that he knows it too. But more than anything, she hates herself for feeling it.

I love when a story comes full circle. In the context of Haladriel, it begins in Numenor, and it ends in Numenor. It begins in the sea and it ends in the sea.
That is why enjoy playing with the idea that Sauron might end up saving Galadriel during the downfall of Numenor. Imagine them spending the entire season as bitter enemies and trying to outmaneuver or even kill each other. But in the end, when he sees her on the brink of death, despite everything, something deep stirs within him, pushing him to risk everything to save her, even though he is fully aware of his vulnerability.

What about Galadriel? What if she leaves him to die? She makes a bitter decision to suppress all feelings she has for the dark lord and abandons him. She chooses not to drag him onto the raft, but letting him “die” in the sea.

It’s almost poetic: the greatest punishment Sauron could have received wasn’t defeat, but betrayal by the one he loved. Galadriel, in choosing to abandon him, drives him into full mode evil.
And for her as well, the decision carries the consequences: according to one version of the tale, her own son, Amroth, drowns in the same way. So, in forsaking Sauron, she could have sealed both their fates.
