Downhearted
by Ada Limón

Six horses died in a tractor-trailer fire.
There. That’s the hard part. I wanted
to tell you straight away so we could
grieve together. So many sad things,
that’s just one on a long recent list
that loops and elongates in the chest,
in the diaphragm, in the alveoli. What
is it they say, heart-sick or downhearted?
I picture a heart lying down on the floor
of the torso, pulling up the blankets
over its head, thinking this pain will
go on forever (even though it won’t).
The heart is watching Lifetime movies
and wishing, and missing all the good
parts of her that she has forgotten.
The heart is so tired of beating
herself up, she wants to stop it still,
but also she wants the blood to return,
wants to bring in the thrill and wind of the ride,
the fast pull of life driving underneath her.
What the heart wants? The heart wants
her horses back.

Why Alzheimer’s Patients Forget Their Loved Ones and How Scientists May Stop It - Science News

Protective brain structures called perineuronal nets play a critical role in preserving social memory and may offer a new target for Alzheimer’s treatment. For many families affected by Alzheimer’s disease, one of the most devastating experiences is when a loved one can no longer recognize them. New findings from the University of Virginia School of […]

Sometimes I fall asleep during an episode so I relisten to it but then I remember all of it but as soon as I move off the episode I’m on I don’t remember it so I go back to it. It’s worse than a goldfish’s memory that’s for sure.

In the midst of the mist of memories in the meandering mind of a madman, on a moonless midnight, lingering melancholy moves like a mechanical muse, manipulating quiet moments.

Safar and Prayer that We Often Forget: When the Journey is No Longer Accompanied by Tauhid

KHAZANAHISLAM.COM

Today’s journey often starts with checking the battery, not renewing your intentions. In fact, in Islam, travel is not just mobility, but a moment of monotheism. The Qur’an places travel as a space of awareness, not just a change of location:
قُلْ سِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ بَدَأَ الْخَلْقَ“Say: walk on the face of the earth, then watch how Allah begins creation.”…

Forget Jeans for a Second—Every Cool Outfit I’ve Bookmarked for 2026 Features This “Dated” Trouser Trend

As a life-long fan of corduroy (’90s babies were introduced to this fabric at a very young age), I’m overjoyed that the corded trouser is making a comeback in 2026. However, I can understand why people keep their distance. With its retro connotations, it can easily feel dated or overly nostalgic if styled the wrong way. This season, though, the fashion crowd is wearing corduroy trousers in a way…

Of course, I do not remember all this, or only badly. I know the facts and titivate them with a little color, those same colors that now slip through my fingers.
