The Problem with Self-mythologizing

All authors are told that they need to be on social media in order to market their books, which is unfortunately not a terrible bit of advice, but something I’ve noticed a lot lately that is becoming a problem is when the author becomes the main character. Now, I’m not talking about self-insert characters. I’m talking about the idea of marketing one’s self as the author and the issues that arise…

Exaggeration is too common. But not God.

So Michigan was supposed to accumulate over a foot of snow in one day last week.

Not!

Oh, the weather forecasters are saying that it will still happen. I’ve lived in Michigan for a long time. And let’s just say it’s going to have to “mega” snow the rest of the day to accomplish that. Which brings me to this point.

We know how the media is today. ALL of them have “Breaking news”,…

Animation and Motion Design: Exaggeration

Exaggeration is used in animation to create more impactful and visual stories. It is mainly used in how a character moves/interacts in certain situations, timing, camera work, design, and sound.

Yvonne told me about this article as she thought it would go well with my theme, and what I’m trying to do in my project. And I agree. The article was very insightful and explained the importance of exaggeration in animation. It is used to exaggerate and emphasize plot points in a story, which makes it visually appealing to the viewer.

We can see a lot of exaggeration in Disney movies. It is evidently shown in how the character moves. The way a character will move when talking to another. if they like them or hate them. The movements are exaggerated and more emotional. An example mentioned in the article was Zoro from One Piece. He’s exaggerated because of Oda’s choice to give him 3 swords. This is a defining point to Zoro which makes him so recognizable - His design is exaggerated.

For my master shot I attempted to do this with the pose. My character has her hand reaching out as she faces the viewer.

Love looking up the origin of words because it’s either “Okay: derived from latin Okidius Arangymus meaning ‘in god’s wonderful grace and light all is right within our flat world’” or “Horse: origin unknown”

For an animation assignment, I had to push an exaggeration of some emotion and decided to use Ellis, only problem is I realized I have basically never draw him smiling or happy l at most I’ve doodled an awkward smile, resulting in people saying the first drawing of him smiling looked like a fake or forced smile and maniacal XD

So the second time I pushed him further and it’s going to be fun to see how the third drawing turns out where I need to push him even further XD

Since I thought at some point we might exaggerate another emotion I also draw him really sad which unsurprisingly for Ellis looks more fitting XD

Here is a normal picture of Ellis for comparison

It isn’t wise to use superlatives. They offend the truth and cast doubt on your judgment. By exaggerating, you squander your praise and reveal a lack of knowledge and taste.

The artist isn’t exaggerating: the paper historian Peter Tschudin estimates that by the sixteenth century, each man at a vat of pulp could produce five or six reams of paper in a day, or between two and three thousand pages.
