Levine Cava vetoes effort to remove fluoride from tap water
One does not have to have arrived at a well-formed conclusion on whether fluoride is helpful or harmful to human health to recognize that the arguments offered to the public for pumping it into the drinking water for a whole population are flawed.
“Dr. Nelson, who is the president of the Miami-Dade County Dental Society, said removal of fluoride increases the chances of having cavities, causing parents to then have to take days off to take care of their children.”
So? How many OB/GYNs out there think birth control is the miracle cure for all female health woes? Should we not also dump birth control into the water too to stave off acne, painful periods, and would-be parents missing work to care for children? How about Pepto-Bismol while we are at it? It would really be a shame for people to miss work because of heartburn or diarrhea, wouldn’t it?
Are these the dull measures by which we are all unwillingly made patients in a county-wide ward? Where do politicians and “experts” get off on unilaterally administering preemptive treatments, regardless of their alleged effectiveness, to the citizenry after the people’s representatives on the County Commission specifically rejected doing so? Perhaps we need to investigate what the mayor is drinking—she is clearly drunk on power.
