Patrick, a Misunderstood Christian

Posted in Presbyterian and Reformed Telegram:

The Patrick portrayed in public celebrations and by the Roman Catholic Church is mythical and useless. In Patrick’s Confession and Letter to Coroticus we meet a godly Christian missionary who both commands our admiration and deserves greater attention.

Abrincates: a client tribe of the Venelli were the Abrincates or Abrincatui, a late Hallstatt tribe which left its homeland to the south-east of Cologne on the River Abrinca (Vinxtbach) in the sixth or fifth century BC.

Ambiliati: Julius Caesar seems not to be too concerned with pinpointing them, and Pliny the Elder merely includes them in the Veneti revolt of 56 BC.

we need to return our pre-roman best life, as described by Cassius Dio:

the people of Britannia lived in swamps, existing half-submerged for days, with only their heads above water and eating bark, tree roots and wild fruit

NO HALLOWEEN SCENE

by Bill Kochman

10-03-2025

The month of Halloween has finally arrived,
When children dress like monsters and such,
But know that if you’re a servant of the Lord,
All Hallows Eve you shouldn’t dare to touch.

Now why would it even be wrong to celebrate,
In the world they claim it’s simply a night of fun,
But slaves of darkness esteem it as a holy day,
When vile, ungodly things are said to be done.

Steeped in the rites of the ancient Celtic religion,
Communion with the dead took place this night,
But the Scriptures make clear it’s forbidden to do,
In this our Father in Heaven doesn’t take delight.

Likewise head-hunting & even human sacrifices,
Were a core practice of Celtic life many years ago,
Druid priests were officiants of their pagan faith,
They were intellectuals who actually ran the show.

Lighting bonfires and wearing costumes & masks,
Were also a central part of the ancient celebration,
Children played pranks hoping to get food or coins,
But those people engaged in dangerous divination.

The Wiccans today celebrate the eve of Halloween,
To them it’s the most important festival of eight in all,
But to Wiccans the night is referred to as Samhain,
And they worship nature but to God never even call.

Yet worshipping the creation more than the Creator,
Is also strictly forbidden if one reads God’s holy book,
They made false gods out of what are really no gods,
While the true God of Heaven they actually forsook.

These are some reasons why Christians should reject,
And have nothing to do with this late October night,
The Bible warns us to flee from the works of darkness,
I hope that you will pray, and then do what is so right.

Gaesatae: the Gaesatae name is thrown in by Polybius, who describes it as a word which means ‘serving for hire’, and they do appear to have been mercenaries, or at least foederati.

Elveti: these would have been the northernmost people on the Magdalensberg honorary inscriptions, which likely places them on the the right bank of the Salzach, with the bigger Ambisontes tribe on the other side of the Bavarian Alps.

Cenomani: a relatively minor Celtic tribe which settled in northern Italy, between Verona (which they took from the Euganei) and Cremona, but with a name which seems peculiarly Germanic.

Apparently today marks the Gaelic festival of Imbolc and St Brigid’s day.

We don’t know for sure if she was even a real Saint or a Celtic pagan deity/other such figure who was brought into Celtic Christianity and reimagined as a saint.

If memory serves I think she was an Irish Celtic pre-Christian goddess and a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann.

I’ve heard this much.

I’ll admit I don’t know the precise details.

Imbolc

Imbolc is celebrated February 1 to 2. The traditions of Imbolc reach back deep into the pagan history of the Celtic peoples of Ireland and its neighbours. With the Christianization of Ireland, Imbolc was replaced by St. Brigid’s Day . Imbolc as a cultural event has seen a resurgence in recent years, mainly in the neo-pagan community. Imbolc has also grown in popularity amongst others who desire…

The Celts, emerging between 1200 and 500 BC, integrated existing megalithic structures into their cultures rather than destroying them. These ancient stone monuments served spiritual, astronomical, and community functions, symbolizing connections to the past and serving as territorial markers, influencing identity and practices throughout centuries, including modern traditions.

Celtic legends, along with later writings that emerged after the arrival of Christianity, tell us that these stones were thought to be home to spirits, fairies, or even the gods. This belief turned the megaliths into living parts of the spiritual world, not just remnants of a bygone era.
