• It doesn’t mean the experience is peaceful or desirable.
• It doesn’t reflect the emotional reality for most people, which can include fear, confusion, or panic.
• It’s often based on second‑hand observation rather than personal experience.
• It risks romanticising something that is both dangerous and life‑threatening.

What medical understanding actually says

General medical knowledge (not advice for any individual) notes that rapid blood loss can cause:

• Hypovolemic shock, which leads to confusion and loss of consciousness.
• Reduced activity in the parts of the brain that generate fear, which can make a person appear calm or quiet.
• A drifting or dreamlike state shortly before unconsciousness.

Those effects are physiological and are not emotional serenity.

In stranger things season 4, Hopper wants to get out of the chains he’s in. He asks another prisoner to hit the chains around his ankles with the hammer. The guy said it will break his leg. Hopper said do it.

It happened. In Hopper’s cell, his foot was broken enough to where with a strong force, the clasp of the chain could slip off. It would have to go over the broken, bleeding flesh. It would be excruciating pain. But Hopper’s goal was “I need to be free.” “I need to escape.”

I never wanted to believe that going through the pain was the way out but it is. Sticking my hand into the blood, into the wound to grab my heart, to hold my heart and say “I’ve got you. Everything is okay.” Is me loving myself unconditionally.

Watching this show right now without closing my eyes is helping way more than I knew would happen when I said “I’m going to rewatch the show.”

Okay enough I’m calm now

There’s really no good place on the torso to get stabbed because of organs and such, so the limbs might be your best bet. Even then, it’s imperative to avoid the inner aspects of the limbs to avoid the large arteries, and avoid hitting dead center to avoid bones.

Applying pressure with an absorbent material is always preferred to just using hands. Packing the wound with gauze or another absorbent material is the best was to control bleeding. If the blood is spurting, pumping, or bleeding in a pulsatile manner, a tourniquet should be used as high and as tight on the limb as possible.
