Negative Painting in Green – Moodboard #3

Moodboard #3 for March focused entirely on green tones.

I layered acrylic greens intuitively and then used negative painting to define a vase and branches. Pencil and oil-based charcoal pencil added subtle structure.

It feels fresh — like early spring when everything begins to grow again.

MWCC Slow Drawing Class Final Art Project

We just finished up our final week of the Slow Drawing and Mindful Mark Making through Mount Wachusett Community College Continuing Education. And these ladies crushed it!

From the moment they stepped into the door of the Glimmerbug Art Studio, these artsy folks were ready to let go, de-stress and enjoy the fluidity and calming exercises we did in class. Starting off with a worksheet and samples to get us warmed up, we dove into the first project, which was working with black and white to create a piece that was filled with patterns and eye-catching designs.

This past class, we introduced color, using watercolors and colored pencils. And they hit the nail on the head! Check out some of the work:

I was so proud of these ladies for coming into the studio with their A game, ready to learn, relax and enjoy the slow drawing process. I hope to see them all again in the future!

New Events Just Posted — All the Fun & Creative Outlets in Our In-Studio Adult Art Classes

Step into a cozy, light‑filled studio, unplug from your day, and give yourself (or someone you love) a few creative hours to breathe, play, and make something beautiful at Glimmerbug Handmade Art in Harvard, MA.

Why Winter–Spring Is the Perfect Time to Make Art

The quiet months between February and April are an ideal time to slow down, reset, and refill your creative well. At Glimmerbug Handmade Art, each class is designed to be welcoming, stress‑free, and joy‑filled—no experience required, all encouragement provided. You’ll find small groups, a bright and happy studio, and projects that are fun to learn and easy to keep exploring at home.

If you’ve been thinking “I’m not really an artist,” these events are exactly the place to gently prove yourself wrong.

Mindful Mark Making & Slow Drawing

If your brain feels full and your to‑do list never ends, Slow Drawing/Mindful Mark Making is like a mini retreat in the middle of your week. Across select Wednesdays and Tuesdays, you’ll gather at Glimmerbug Handmade Art and explore simple, meditative drawing patterns that quiet your mind while your hands stay delightfully busy.

You’ll experiment with marks, lines, and textures that build into surprisingly beautiful designs, all without pressure to “get it right.” These sessions are perfect if you’re curious about creativity but nervous about traditional drawing or painting.

How to join:

  • Some sessions are offered through Mount Wachusett Community College, so you’ll register directly through MWCC’s Personal Enrichment page. (click the button below)

  • Other sessions are held right in the studio at 361 Old Littleton Road in Harvard, MA. Click here to learn more!

Either way, you’ll leave with new techniques you can tuck into a sketchbook, journal, or your everyday self‑care routine.

Whimsical Watercolor Workshops: Joy in Every Brushstroke

If you’ve been craving color, the Whimsical Watercolor Workshops are your invitation to dive in. Held on several evenings in February and March (and throughout the rest of the year!)—like February 23 and March 3, 18, and 24—these 5:30–7:30 PM sessions focus on painting charming, imaginative projects in a bright, uplifting studio setting.

Each workshop has its own theme, such as Mosaic, Color City, or Wanderlight Village. You’ll explore approachable watercolor techniques, play with color palettes, and build scenes that feel like little stories on paper. The atmosphere is relaxed and social: think friendly conversation, gentle guidance, and plenty of space to experiment.

Key details:

  • No experience needed; beginners and seasoned creatives are equally welcome.

  • Registration is required and seats are limited, so early sign‑up is encouraged.

Come solo for a peaceful creative night out, or turn it into a monthly art date with a friend.

Creative Studio Art Club: Acrylic Magnets & Mixed Media Magic

Looking for something a little more hands‑on and textural? Creative Studio Art Club is where you get to spread out, dig into supplies, and make a project you’ll love showing off.

In February, you can join the Acrylic Painted Magnets session (February 27, 6:00–9:00 PM), where you’ll paint colorful blooms on canvas panels that become vibrant magnets—tiny bursts of Spring for your fridge or office. All supplies are provided, so you can simply show up and paint.

In March, Creative Studio Art Club returns with the Mixed Media Clothesline session (March 27, 6:00–9:00 PM). You’ll use layered materials to create a whimsical scene of dresses and frocks blowing on a clothesline, all on stretched canvas that’s ready to hang when you’re done. It’s an in‑studio adult art night held in a cozy, creative space in beautiful Harvard, Massachusetts—perfect for a girls’ night, date night, or a treat‑yourself evening.

These longer sessions give you plenty of time to settle in, try new techniques, and leave with a finished piece you’ll be proud of.

Learn the Foundations: MWCC Introduction to Whimsical Watercolors

If you’ve been wanting a more structured introduction to watercolor, the MWCC Introduction to Whimsical Watercolors classes are a gentle, confidence‑building place to start. These Friday morning sessions (10:00 AM–12:00 PM on select March dates) are held at Glimmerbug Handmade Art but offered through Mount Wachusett Community College’s Personal Enrichment program.

You’ll explore techniques like wet‑on‑wet, wet‑on‑dry, blotting, and creating texture, all in a fun, stress‑free environment that focuses on play and curiosity rather than perfection. A materials list is sent before class so you can gather what you need and feel prepared. Seats are limited, which keeps the group small and supportive.

To join these sessions, you’ll register directly through MWCC’s (click the button below to learn more)

How to Reserve Your Seat

Because class sizes are intentionally small, many of these workshops will fill quickly. To make sure you have a spot at the table:

  • Visit the Events page at Glimmerbug Handmade Art and click on the class you’re interested in to view full details and sign up.

  • For MWCC‑listed sessions (Slow Drawing/Mindful Mark Making and Introduction to Whimsical Watercolors), follow the link to register through Mount Wachusett Community College’s Personal Enrichment page.

  • Double‑check dates and times to build yourself a little mini‑series of creative nights or mornings from February through April.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to start (or restart) your creative practice, this is it. Step into the studio, dip your brush in color, and give yourself a couple of hours that are just for you.
