One of my favorite things about Afflicted was watching them systemically try and fail at every benign vampire archetype, but by far the funniest and my favorite moment was when they just straight up failed to steel blood bags from a blood bank because they’re lousy thieves

I like Afflicted (2013)

It’s not shy about being a vampire movie and I like that the characters figure it out halfway through the film. I thought their reactions to the vampire transformation were really understandable. I like Derek and Audrey as characters. The vampire superpower scenes were cool, and I thought they produced a lot of fun special effects on a limited budget. The two things I don’t really understand are why Cliff came back when the other victims didnt (Audrey feeds once every 4-5 days and grew up before the invention of color photography but Derek is the only person she ever turned) and why she waited so long to contact Derek when it was clearly dangerous to let him go through the change with no information about what was happening to him. Still a super enjoyable movie though

Obscure fact: Maria Flura is an old comics character. She’s connected to one of Flashes and one Star Sapphire. In Afflicted, she’s Kiana’s aunt.

Due to certain events, it’s likely for Oa and other Lantern Corps to become aware of what’s happening on Afflicted’s Earth.

31 days of Horror - Found Footage List: Day 28 - Afflicted (2013)

Derek and his buddy Clif are about to travel the world and vlog. Why? Well, Derek has a terminal illness and since Clif does documentaries for a living they figure why not turn the vlog into a sort of bucket list. When they get to Paris, Derek meets a girl and she leaves him with a parting gift that changes both guys’ lives forever.

I really wanna spoil this one but i wont since figuring out what’s going on is some of the fun of watching (though it’s pretty obvious pretty early on). The effects are some of the best in this list for sure. It does not shy away from the gore and it’s not obvious cgi. I will say there is a bit of animal murder at a point so you can just skip that bit when it comes up. The shaking isn’t terrible like most found footage. Since this is shot a bit like a high production youtube channel (something like Buzzfeed) there isn’t a lot of shaky cam. Even on this second watch i had a good time. Check it out.

Best friends Derek and Clif plan to travel the globe and live life to the fullest, but only days into the trip one of them shows symptoms of a mysterious illness. They rush to find the source before he is consumed completely.

Today’s vampire movie takes us to the found footage genre. Very much a similar feeling to Chronicle. I’d say the “we must keep filming” aspect is a little bit silly but given where Internet video culture is 13 years after, sadly the scenario is quite believable that someone could be so detached as to film their best friend going through the effects of vampirism.

OK so we need to talk about the 2013 movie Afflicted cus why its so underated?

So the movie starts with a guy called Derek and his friends who film their trip in various cities and they are going to post it online. Derek is dying from a brain desease so thia is like their last goodbye. One night he mets a woman called Audrey and they just kissed and his friend leave them to have some fun. The other day they design to prank them so they open the door and they fpund Derek covered in blood and Audrey seemed to disappear. Even though Derek says hes okay he started changing getting burned when hes in the sun and crave blood. Im not going to spoil the whole movie here but you should definately check it out
