Do u guys think about how on the movie Carrie the protagonists name is Carrie which sounds like Scary
What if at some point a character said:
A: What’s that girl’s name?
B: It’s Carrie
A: What do you mean It’s scary? Just tell me the name
B: No, it’s Carrie
A: What? How can a name even be scary
B: It just is Carrie, it’s what her parents named her
A: Ok but what is the name?
B: It’s Carrie
A: I ASKED WHAT HER NAME IS
B: CARRIE!
A: I GET IT BUT I WANT TO KNOW IT
A: I AM JUST ASKING YOU WHO THAT GIRL IS
B: SHE’S CARRIE!
A: UGH ok so it’s not the name SHE is the one who’s scary

thinking about bella and alice again…. god
was dming a friend and realized the gravity of bella being in t589 for 5 entire years. from 13 to 18. it makes carries like manipulation hit so much harder knowing a) she was manipulating children and b) for YEARS before they left to go to other facilities.
no wonder bella trusts in her so much. she was there when her friends started dying. she was there when she was scared of what she might become. she was there when she questioned why the world is so terrible and cruel. and when she wasnt there her words - what she overheard; what others told her; what she would say if she was there, whatever a comforting, guiding figure would tell her - were. when her family and the life she had before was ripped away carrie was there.
carrie was there when owen started getting more and more angry and distant and forgetful. she was the one to tell her what was going on with him (which im sure was at most 50% the truth…). she was the one who told her once, “it’s all going to be okay, just remember what i told you.” and she relied on those words and the mindset she instilled in her because what else did such a scared and lonely kid have
you get used to your friends dying eventually. you get used to being so alone eventually. you get used to not being able to see your parents again eventually. you get used to being trapped. it’s like home when you think about it. eventually, you realize just how lucky you are to be here, to be alive. eventually.
5 years of it. no wonder owen and bella became so fucked up. because everything carrie instilled, on top of just being callous and manipulative, was shallow; a short-term explanation that only brought doom once they burnt themselves out later in their lives; because all carrie needed was a way to keep her experiments in line until their time was up.
and owen and bella did both burn themselves out because of it. bella because she saw her only value as being a good worker, and owen because it became clear that there was no point in trying to resist the world’s cruelty. and both of them accepted that the world could never fundamentally change from the captialist meatgrinder they grew up in. maybe you could change it for the better, improve it - as bella tried to - but never replace it.
and i havent even gotten into alice’s side of the story yet

if you say “carrie being covered in pig blood makes no sense if she’s skinny!” i’m just gonna assume you’re media illiterate because how do you miss the fact that chris dumped blood on carrie at prom because chris herself was banned from prom after bullying carrie for getting her period?
“but they used pig blood, not any other animal!” yeah because they perceive pigs as dirty, ugly, unclean creatures. they’re misogynistic animal abusers. part of it IS mocking her for her weight - “pig” is one of the most common insults fat people (especially fat women) receive - but it isn’t the ONLY aspect of the humiliation, and to claim as such is a lazy interpretation of the complex, intersectional themes of the novel.
they used pig blood to humiliate her for being fat. they also used pig blood to call her an ugly and unclean creature, as that’s what they perceive both carrie and the pigs to be. many things can be true at once. nuance called, she told you to stop parroting “opinions” from tumblr and tiktok about literature you don’t fully understand
