Cyber ninja runs acrobatically through a near-future dystopia
• This is a near-future ninja action game released by Capcom in 1989.
• The story follows Hiryu, the youngest Special A-class Strider, as he infiltrates the Russian imperial capital in 2048 to assassinate the world’s ruling Grandmaster, Hades.
• The game features acrobatic action like sliding and climbing walls/ceilings using a sickle. The plasma sword “Cypher” offers high-speed, satisfying rapid-fire attacks.
• Iconic characters include the cool Hiryu, Solo, and the Ton Pooh sisters. The game utilized multilingual voice samples (JP, EN, CN) for a cinematic atmosphere.
• The Japanese version features Hiryu’s “Hah!” voice, which was cut abroad. The NES version features a different story and exploration-heavy design.
• Praised for its revolutionary presentation, it featured cinematic BGM shifts and fluid animations. It won multiple awards for its high production and direction.
• Powerful robotic “options” like the tiger and hawk assist Hiryu, providing an incredible sense of power and speed that defines the super-human Strider experience.
• Some noted that the final boss, Grandmaster, is unexpectedly easy to defeat compared to the intense stages, often defeated by simple overlapping attacks.
• Early arcade versions suffered from a BGM bug where Stage 1’s music repeated later. High-quality ports like the Mega Drive version famously restored the soundtrack.
• Hiryu gained immense popularity through the Marvel vs. Capcom crossover series. The franchise includes sequels like Strider 2 and a 2014 3D-styled reboot.
• As a masterpiece of 2D action, it influenced franchises. It remains a legendary title for its style and innovation.

For Kant, the most basic functional dualism is observer and observed…
… but it is epistemic (study of human knowledge) , not ontological (study of being, reality, existence) . That distinction matters, and most people blur it.
Kant is not saying there are two kinds of things in reality. He is saying there are two roles within cognition that cannot be collapsed without destroying the possibility of experience itself. What Kant starts from is not a world split in two, but a constraint. Experience only occurs if there is something that is given and something that unifies what is given. Sensibility supplies appearances. Understanding supplies form. Without receptivity, nothing appears. Without synthesis, nothing is experienced as anything.
This creates a split between the observer and the observed, but only when we think about knowledge. The observer isn’t a physical thing. It’s more like a function, a way to bring things together. Kant refers to this as the ‘transcendental unity of apperception,’ which might sound complicated, but it’s really not. It’s just a rule that says all our thoughts need to connect to one main idea; if they don’t, then they aren’t really ours and we can’t call them experiences. On the other hand, the observed isn’t the actual object itself. It’s how things look, shaped by space, time, and our understanding. So, the real difference isn’t 'mind against the world,’ but rather the action we take versus what is given to us in our experiences.
The critical move is that dualism is unavoidable, but it tells you nothing about reality as it is in itself. It only tells you about the conditions under which experience is possible for creatures like us. Kant blocks the metaphysical (study of how reality is) slide. Descartes crosses it. Post-Kantians keep tripping over it.
Nietzsche’s critique bites exactly here. He accepts Kant’s diagnosis of the structure, but rejects the reification. Once you forget that “observer” is a function and start treating it as a thing, you have already committed the grammatical error. Metzinger later radicalizes this saying that the observer is a model with no owner. Observer/observed is the most basic dualism at the level of cognition. But it is not a statement about how the world is. It is a statement about how experience is assembled.
The observer is not a thing facing the world, but a rule that makes “facing” possible at all.
