For my birthday, my boyfriend got me the Doraemon game board with four games included. He mostly got it so we can learn to play Shogi and Go. Today he told me that he wants to play western chess first because Shogi looked too complicated. I proposed he bring the chess board over and we play both to figure out which is more complicated. It was towards the end of this discussion that I realized that we are an incredibly boring couple.

On a funny note, boyfriend had no idea who Doraemon was but after watching a few episodes, he loves the show.

Checkmate Lawyer

This is so interesting drama! Shogi, or Japanese Chess female player got to be a lawyer, as her father is a judge.
Of course in the worst gender inequality country Japan among OECD associates, female chess players are few, and she has won her games, but she has quit and entered to the law farm. She wears Kimono for her standing in her style, explains in Shogi language, that is no meaning to me, but it is too cool for listening into, as it is like the Alice’s chess adventures in the Wonderland.

And she finally meets her ex-friend on shogi, or maybe only friend for her lifetime, and they discuss anything in shogi. Fantastic! I love it. I hope this could be hitting the global fans, or it could be easily adopted to other countries traditional games. Fun, fun, fun!!
It should be the several seasons to be ready for the future. Fully enjoyable. I’d be happy to translate.

It is the first time IMDb doesn’t have the drama, Hollywood you should pick up it not mangas.

So I’m on “March Comes in Like a Lion” ep. 7 and I am learning shogi.
it seemed really difficult but its basically chess with extra steps so the rules are easy it’s just tactics and such, but playing against a computer with low intelligence or whatever you call it is pretty funny.

idk I just love learning things like this, low effort but still something that easily impresses people.
its like learning the rubrix cube its way easier than people think, and they get pretty impressed about me benign abel to solve it no matter how they shuffle it.
Anyway, I’m on my second day of learning shogi, and i have lost a lot even against a bot. also one that only started with a king.
but I have now found a bot that is way more stupid, and i can undo moves so now i have one win as well.
No but that sounds bad but still i can now recognize some moves as bad/good which i couldn’t before, so im getting better

Sega Saturn - Senryaku Shogi

Title: Senryaku Shogi / 戦略将棋

Developer/Publisher: Electronic Arts Victor

Release date: 17 November 1995

Catalogue No.: T-10604G

Genre: Shogi

Apparently, this game is actually programmed by Electronic Arts Japan. What we have is a 3D Shogi game that can also be played in 2D. The 3D sections look pretty good, but the textures are switched off by default. I have no idea what the reason for this is, because the game looks significantly better with them switched on.

Overall, this is a pretty solid shogi game that’s worth the attention of any fan of shogi.

Lowkey Find it hilarious how people portray Shogi as like, “Asian Chess”, as if chess wasn’t also invented by asians

So, what is this game? well, as you can imagine, it was once the game of kings and still is, and even featured in the most epic out of Ancient India - Mahabharata

This is Chaturanga that would go to be the ancestor in some forms of: Chinese GO, Japanese Shogi, the Korean Janggi, - famously in Perisa it was adopted as chatrang or Shatranj during the Sassanian empire’s time. And many more.

Other games you might be familiar with out of old India? Leela, also to mean divine play, very important in the culture and our stories.

But what did it inspire, oh well it was a game about moral values and you use a dice and…you know, you can move laterally or linearly across the board via snakes and ladders and…oh.

:) This is why btw you see boardgames and other mediums too featured in Tales of Tremaine and they’re so important. :)

Like the little ole storytelling game with moving pieces set up a certain way with certain board.

Another evening playing shogi against myself. This sort of activity is more zen-like than I expected. I honestly assumed that this was just gonna be little more than an excuse to get some kind of use out of a seeming useless purchase since I never planned on playing with anyone.

Wonder if Alek would enjoy other versions of Chess. Be it the hundreds of thousands of odd chess variants that exist….or like other countries versions of chess like Xiang qi or Shogi. I think he’d like Shogi….though that might just be my enjoyment of Shogi. But I’d think he’d find the drop rule interesting.

So here’s a fun thing…

… those don’t look like Shogi pieces.

Unless there’s a type of Shogi piece I’m just not finding info about, those look more like fucked-up chess pieces.

I think the only way to know which abstract shape corresponds to which piece would be to see an initial board setup. Or at least to be able to piece one together from various frames.
