📣 Listen/purchase: I’m Here by Chris Kane
A crisp blend of Afrobeat rhythm and dance‑pop sparkle, driven by punchy bass, bright synths, and a soaring vocals hook. Instantly catchy, club‑ready, and perfect for summer playlists—this track announces his arrival with undeniable energy.
Snowflake – Zen Arcade
Appearing on Zen Arcade’s debut album, ‘Snowflake’, ‘Not About You’ would follow the brilliant ‘Crazy For You’ into the SA Rockdigest charts and it leapfrogged it predecessor to go 1 place better, topping the chart for 2 weeks. Personally, I thought ‘Crazy For You’ was a better song and deserved a number 1 peak, but ‘Not About You’ is still a strong enough track to deserve…

I had an ok, simple week. There’s some cleanup and little jobs done.
Users who use the extract builds who are updating from v661 or earlier to v662 or later need to do a clean install! Please check that release for more information.
highlights
The ‘manage tags’ dialog should be better about closing and committing a big job. If you tag a bunch of thumbs, in now closes fast and commits everything in the background. It was juddering a bit, previously. If the job takes more than a moment, a popup now appears and shows the progress. If you regularly do big tag commits on large numbers of thumbs, I’d be interested to know how this all feels.
If you have unusual media viewer drag behaviour, options->media viewer now has separate checkboxes for 'anchor mouse during drags’ and 'hide mouse during drags’. These were previously combined, so if you have trouble with this, try one on and one off, and let me know how it goes. The hide logic is a bit faster and stickier here now, too.
Some video files with silent audio tracks were parsed incorrectly and not showing up in 'system:no audio’ searches. They will all be queud for a re-scan once you update.
A user has written a new Client API tool that helps with a variety of management problems, such as parsing information out of note text. I have linked it in the Client API landing page, and you can find it here: https://github.com/GiovanH/HydrusTools

I had more success with the import options overhaul this week. There’s still plenty of boring work to do, so I’ll keep at it.
The Strait of Hormuz crisis, which is unsettling worldwide financial systems, prompted Gulf Oil’s chief energy consultant, Tom Kloza, to appear on ‘Mornings with Maria’ and analyze the dramatic escalation in crude costs.
As governments rush to curb a significant jump in petroleum rates, sparked by the Iranian hostilities, G7 finance ministers are reportedly poised to deliberate a synchronized…
It’s only gonna be you who comes to save you
I don’t mean this in a fucked up way,
But it is detrimental
Keep yourself alive, not just surviving
Friends can help, sustain good ones - real ones
Be a good friend, reliable, honest, compassionate
friends are capable
You don’t need to save them, and they don’t need to save you
They understand you, and you them
Family, I feel, can be a test
I’ve seen and experienced it in fucked up ways, the illusion finally addressed and then shattered
Hindsight 20/20
I don’t think it’s wrong to say- you can leave
Truth cuts, but it’s undeniable & that’s what I respect about it.
It’s chaotic when choking hands start to lose their grip
A gasp of real, clarity
It’s not always gonna be easy to let go,
But what’s ready to catch you already has it’s arms open, ready
Another life

After suffering a defeat in the Super Bowl last month, the pass catcher is now seeking a new team.
The New England Patriots are gearing up to part ways with seasoned pass catcher Stefon Diggs, who is slated for release as the new NFL league year commences in the upcoming week.
As per various reports, monetary factors predominantly influenced this choice. Diggs’ wage ceiling amount was projected…
Fidget Spinner for Playdate is out now!
A new scientific study suggests that returning rescued wildlife to natural habitats does not always end in success. In some situations, animals released after time in captivity face serious risks, and the wild can become what researchers describe as a “death trap.”
The findings appear in the journal Global Ecology and Conservation. The research was carried out by primatologist Professor Anna…

I had a good week. There’s some UI quality of life and a cleaner build structure.
All users who use the extract releases need to do a clean install this week.
new build
Last week’s ‘future build’ test went well, and the changes are being folded into today’s release. The install structure is now much simpler, with all the dlls and unusual library folders shoved up to a single 'lib’ dir.
If you are a source user, update as normal. If you use the Windows installer, update as normal. If you are a Windows or Linux user who uses the extract releases, you must perform a clean install this week! The guide for this is here: https://hydrusnetwork.github.io/hydrus/getting_started_installing.html#clean_installs
Because of the new install structure, this will be the last non-simple clean install we will ever have to do. Remember to make a backup before you update, and let me know if you have any trouble.
misc
The 'edit subscriptions’ dialog has a new 'overwrite downloaders’ button to mass-apply a new downloader to a selection of subs.
The taglist 'search’ right-click menu has been split into 'open’ and 'search’, and some of the 'invert’ tech has nicer labels and fixes for certain system:rating predicates.
The duplicates auto-resolution system gets a new comparator to differentiate progressive and non-progressive jpegs. If you want to filter one way or another, give it a go!
next week
I had success pushing on the import options overhaul this week. There’s more work to do, but everything is lining up well. I’ll keep working on it.
Esoteric Ebb, the game I’ve been doing illustrations for, has now been released!
Great work Christoffer and the rest of the team!!
As AI-powered browsers from companies like OpenAI, Perplexity, and others attempt to carve out a space for themselves in a market that’s long been dominated by Chrome, Google says that it’s now speeding up the pace of Chrome releases. Starting this September, Chrome will move from a four-week release schedule to a two-week schedule, the tech giant announced on Tuesday.
